CZ 457 VARMINT MTR 22LR RIFLE Accuracy Testing
In this video we take the CZ 457 Varmint MTR rifle I personally use for PRS22 competition. We show accuracy out at 50 yards on paper with Eley Club Match Ammunition and talk about the rifle based on my personal experience.
Benefits to the 457 MTR over a traditional 457 rifle is the Turkish walnut stock with plastic pillars as well as the very accurate match chamber barrel.

Great video Josh, thanks for posting it. Since I'm low on SK I've been trying Eley club and target and my Bergara seems to shoot both pretty good.

Thanks for the video . I'm looking at the 457MTR and it's great to know what they are capable doing with Eley Club. I'm looking forward to the other types of ammunition. As a footnote , I cant believe you only have 476 subscribers , I'm expecting that to grow quite rapidly !

You get it, so few people understand .22 ammo. Even lot numbers of the same ammo shoots differently as I'm sure you're aware. My Anschutz likes RWS R100 lot 401. R50 and R100 shot exactly the same in the 401 lot number. This allowed me to save quiet a bit when buying the lot. Several lot numbers in R100 didn't shoot as well. That's part of the experience is finding the right ammo. People think shooting a .22 is cheaper lol not if you do it right.

Hi Josh, I started shooting. 22 rifle matches 40 years ago with Eley Club. When I got a bit better at it I switched to Eley Match. I've tried some other brands of ammo but always came back to Match. Thanks for the great content.

@@craigwesson1788 I found a lot# of Eley match that shot well, but when I went to buy more it was already gone. That was about two months ago. Recently the offerings from suppliers sell out in a few days ! I ordered a lot# that shot just OK hoping it would be good, but I'm trying to sell it now cause it doesn't shoot well enough to keep. My barrel seems to be extremely finicky.

@@terrykleypas50 that’s too bad Terry. I found that a lot work very well at 50 metres but once you get out to 100 they open up quite a bit. I just got 5 more different ammo to try. Hoping I get something decent. Apparently RWS is the ammo used at the factory so will see. Lol. If I find something that works really well I’ll let you know. 😊

i took the mtr out today. shot sport, club, contact and benchrest outlaw. my results for the club where almost identical to yours… the flavor that won was “sport” didn’t see that coming! 5, 5 shot groups at 50y averaged a .320! i was really surprised! Cheers man.

I’m liking the fact that you will be testing a different brand of match ammunition from the cheaper stuff to the more expensive ammunition each week . Say congratulations on your result last weekend. I just watched Ricks Isyour6covered video on the shooting match . I think you might have been the only competitor out there using a wood stocked rifle .

I test ammo with a software program called “On Target”. You take a picture of the target and mark the bullet holes with the mouse. The software will return a number of statistics beyond simple group size. I use the “circular area probability” measure at 95% - the circular area in which 95% of the bullets will probably hit - smaller being better. This measure is not so heavily influenced by an occasional flyer which may be caused by shooter or ammo variation.

Great video man! I've a 457 LRP and really have issues finding ammo that shoots sub moa at a 100 meters. Maybe it should try some more expensive ones🤔 Btw. have you done something to your bolt? It looks crazy effortless how you cycle it...

I use fine grit sandpaper to take off the raised edges on the bolt serial number. Does slick it up q tiny bit more

Good video Josh, thanks for the info. Do you have any experience with Norma 22 match? I have shot a box and it is oily like sk and lapua, it seems pretty accurate, I would be interested in your results. Your shooting makes a strong case for the cz mtr.

Salut Josh, Excellent video as always. Can you compare RWS Match Rifle and SK Rifle Match? CZ in Europe use RWS with their “test fire sheet” provided with each new rifle. My CZ457 MTR loves the RWS and my CZ457 Premium loves the SK. I suspect the SK may be the winner in both of my CZs, however as I bought a lot of RWS from the same batch and I don’t really want to find out if I should have done more testing first. The fact is they are both excellent. Your thoughts please on what influence does their very “waxy” coating make to their performance? Cordialement RB

That's accuracy! I did notice the bipod. In your mind, is that as stable as a sand bag or a solid rest?

Yeah a good bipod is just as stable as a front bag. I prefer the bipod

Have you done anything to your bolt to make it smoother cycling? Is there anything you know of to help with the stiffness of the actual bolt engagement. Thanks for all your videos and information.

I do smooth the sn on the bolt but thats about it besides just keeping it lightly oiled

I’ve shot a pretty good load of tennex and club through my 82 kimber cascade model I think club was 3.00 and tennex 10.00 in the 80s my kimber didn’t shoot the match as good as the club or tennex

I actually got that given to me by a friend. But i price all my ammo through goodshooting or champs choice. They still sell ammo at pre panic prices when they can get it
