Definitely true. If I had to carry a milsurp, this would definitely be at the top of list (especially if the choice is limited to what I already have in the collection). Unfortunately I’m not sure if I see the defensive ammo situation ever changing. As viable an option as these are for carry, they’ve certainly been edged out by modern polymer 9mm’s with the same (or better) capacity in a smaller, lighter pistol, firing a more potent cartridge. As such, probably not too many people will take up carrying 9x18’s and thus will create little incentive to make more defensive 9x18 options.

I’ve seen a couple of reviews of the x-grades from Aim and they do seem perfectly serviceable. Unfortunately at the time I bought this, Aim only had their standard grade pistols so I went Atlantic.

Yeah it’s probably one of those things where once it’s no longer being imported, the prices will become stupid.

I don’t think there is a 9x19 version of the 82, other than 9x18, there is also a .380 (9x17) and a .32acp model. The .380 does have generally better ammo availability and almost the same ballistics. The main reason to go with 9x18 is that it’s the original military caliber in an actual military-issue pistol.

@@hobofactory I see where I messed up. Atlantic has The 82 listed as 9mm while the 83 as 9mm Makerov but in the description both say 9x18. What ammo brand do you use? Barnaul and Norma are my go too.

@@Spartan73799I don’t really have a preference as far as ammo goes. So far I’ve tried American Eagle and Mesko in this pistol, both with good results. But it seem that guns like the CZ-82 and Makarov are built like tanks will run just about anything so I’m not sure how much ammo matters, tbh.

True. Used to be about on par with 9x19 but import bans certainly haven’t made things better.
