I'm not super chemistry smart, but what does "both" mean here? If it's just chlorine, shouldn't it have a pH of 7, because there's no hydrogen ions or hydroxide in it? My knowledge comes from one college biology class, so I might be missing a few parts of the puzzle

Actually, if you are a citizen of a country which accepted the Geneva Conventions, you need to keep it too, even if you're in a place what didn't agree to it (basically your homeland's laws apply to you no matter where you are). And Bill, well... he's seemingly from USA Deep South, sooo.... :D

This is when you play the "Yeah, but this is a game about magic and the mechanism can be different, and we are playing a game so failure is also a point we deal with but here is advantage for being descriptive about it" card. Ok, depending on the context I could allow them to not roll, but still.

I mean, it's a legit point. Your character is supposed to be a trained X or Y doing stuff, so I don't see any reason why anything has to fail in a rather simple situation. GM could be more creative. Like you see the pressure plate is slightly corroded due to the acid and if you don't work fast enough the trigger will activate anyways. Or it's rigged to activate upon deactivation and you have seconds to figure out what's the real deactivating mechanism. Or there are just people shooting at you, that also does the trick. Etc.

I hate when characters do this. Its up to the DM to decide what is going on, not the players. Especially when the party barbarian uses his real life knowledge to try and make something only a trained artificer could do, and argues that since he as a player knows how to do something their character should as well.

my first group I dm'd for were my college roommates. we were all engineering students. they put a strap on the outside of the bag of holding and then strung it over an immovable rod to create a mobile turret for the archer to pop in and out of. their "that's just physics brother" responses were the bane of my existence because we all passed physics together and they were usually right. i loved that game

Loved this skit! Loved taking the "Guy who tries to apply physics and irl knowledge to D&D" trope, but instead of being annoyed about it, just letting the guy have it and running with it, while seamlessly also showcasing the other players playing "normally" with skill checks with no conflict between the two. FUN STORY! When I DM'ed my first campaign, we had a player who actually named his human fighter after himself--Will! And when I asked for an NPC for the character, he gave me 2 sisters--which I later found out were named after his real sisters. 😅 He's still a part of our group, and has since been DM, but you hit real close to home with this one. 😂

honestly while i massively respect people who can act as characters wildly different from themselves, i've found that most of the time it's easier to incorporate an element of yourself into the character and develop that over time in order to make a unique character say for example, maybe you're a really witty person, you could try playing a charisma based build, and build the character around that wit, or maybe you're a really caring person, and end up being the party mom obviously don't play literally yourself, but if you do focus on an element of yourself, it can make getting into character easy

Had this once recently. Was running a modern campaign and had them fight a tank. It was meant to be a difficult encounter where they would work together to destroy it, only for one player to look up the specific make and model, as well as it's blueprints, exclusively to try and cheat the game in the first round

Yeah the systems are just models to make it easy to make fair decisions if you don't already have an idea of how it should go. Super useful if you are playing someone different from yourself too, but if everyone feels like "it just makes sense" then their is no reason for a ruling on it!

Bill is every player I have ever DM'ed for. Every bit of this skit brought so much nostalgia. I had to homebrew so many mechanics to try to let them have the freedom they thought DnD was about.
