That is not true. Initially, it was thought that just some 20,000 soldiers could be rescued. In the end over 330,000 were saved A THIRD OF THEM FRENCH.

What a crass, ignorant comment

The Brit troops had fallen after the Battle of France and the evacuation failed, the likelihood of the war being fought in the known time frame would close to Zero. The BEF that evacuated became the core troops that would become the British ground forces for the rest of the war. However the troops worry me less. A failure of the evacuation would have been the result of a loss of air control over the channel and even the sea lanes, both being such that the Royal Navy and RAF could not defend or evacuate dunkirk the loss of aircraft and ships in that failure would have severely endangered Britain. With a risk of the country surrendering the Island altogether and hopefully the government set up shop in Canada with the royal family. All these would have likely resulted in a greater delay to us entry to the war which happened almost 3% years after Dunkirk and because of Japan. All I’m saying a withdrawal is not always a bad thing, and before even the last troop had left Dunkirk Paris had fallen if I remember correctly with the French troops in the beach heads going to Britain and forming the free French movement
