This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Greetings from Germany! Nightwish has become my favourite band, each member of this band is an outstanding artist. They always do what the music requires, not less and not more. When it comes to their part they give 100 % but when there is nothing to do for them they e.g. wander around and drink something (like Emppu the guitar player does). There are no egos on stage, it is all about the music. And they are good friends who respect and support each other. By the way, Floor Jansen is the most versatile singer I have ever heard. She literally can sing all, from opera (listen to "O mio babbino caro" by Puccini) to death metal growls (listen to "Disdain" with her former band ReVamp) and all between.

What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. There were 82,000 people there. I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion. Watch out for the Nightwish Army. When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZfaq. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZfaq in these years. Great reaction and greetings from Maryland, USA. I really hope you continue the Nightwish journey. You will get a lot of suggestions for NW songs and there is no right or wrong way to go through this journey. I do recommend that you find Gabriel's comment and use the links he provides. You can go in any order, however, the links provided are always going to be the best audio and video (and played at the correct speed) for a given song. Also, their live stuff is often the way to go. Ghost Love Score is a great introduction to the band. It is like a sampler platter, showcasing some of the stuff they do. That said, this barely scratches the surface. They have stuff that is much harder (and yes, the lead singer, Floor can growl/scream) and they have stuff that is much softer. The have some folksy stuff, some jazzy stuff and stuff that flat out rocks. Each song will be a bit different from the last and your favorite song is more often than not, the last one you listed to. The entire concert at Wacken (pronounced Vah-kin) 2013 is amazing. I would recommend Storytime next or Romanticide if you want to jump into something a little harder.

You do have to be careful on stage when pyrotechnics are involved. The artists have to know exactly where what kind of pyro is and when it goes off. Despite that, there have been incidents when musicians got burned; I think James Hetfield for example had a pyro accident once.

As you delve deeper into their music (as I hope you will) you will find many diverse songs. Symphonic metal is the official genre, but you will find songs ranging from metal to ballads and even a jazz track. I have subscribed to your channel in the hope that you'll keep on watching and listening to Nightwish, especially their live recordings.
