I really enjoyed my time here (after I skipped the first part, which I sadly did not enjoyed at all even though you spend so much effort into making it. I am sorry for that.) The first sentence of your acknowledgments in your pinged comment is very important and should always be the very first thing to be shown and said on lore videos that go so heavily into interpretation/fanwork/fanfiction territory. So that people unfamiliar with Touhou Project know that majority of content shown is not very/or at all accurate. And not at the very end as a small remark. Kinda odd you didn't mention Sanae. She's an arahitogami, a god who's also a human. Also I suppose you're covering Okina in a future episode. And Misumaru, although we knows pretty much nothing about her yet. Also you missed several other minor gods, although most of these are nameless, one-shot minor characters from the manga so it's understandable. - A tree that Reimu accidentally made into a god during a flower viewing party, then accidentally killed because she's a terrible shrine maiden. - A tree rat that the villagers started worshipping because it survived unscathed when the tree it lives in was burnt by lightning. - A traveler god that warned Reimu when she was lost. I remember this because Reimu's reaction was "wow gods are real after all" followed by Marisa and Kasen facepalm. - A hunger god that plagues worshippers to the Hakurei shrine. Maybe some others? Been a while since I last read the manga.

The whole "religion brings existence to magic in Gensokyo" and "faith keeps youkai and gods alive" parts of the lore, as well as the Outside World's rising belief in science and atheism being unknowingly harmful, is a part of the lore that is honestly pretty hurtful. It makes me think; What if more Gensokyo-like pocket dimensions in other parts of the world could arise thanks to other gap youkai or goddesses fearing this rise of forgetting and unknown power of humanity? Does magic exist if everyone agrees to believe in it, giving a big downside to the rise of technology? It makes me feel terrible about the Outside World. How could a place sell its soul to technology, bringing all these wonderful youkai to near extinction without even trying to keep religion in place as compromise? Of course, even if a lot of youkai eat humans and cause trouble, others are beautiful and make the world so much more interesting. I can sympathize with outsiders staying in Gensokyo, like Sanae, Sumireko, and even Yumemi and Chiyuri; Even if they like science, they want to live in a world where youkai exist, so they agree to believe in gods and compromise. It makes me wonder if Gensokyo could expand not by changing its place to a realm not tied to Earth, but if Japan somehow reverted back to its ways, possibly even giving Gensokyo a sea it is known to lack. I would've skipped the start with Mayumi and Saki's argument, but I watched it with the rest and it was chilling. I never thought of Saki like that, but I feel like she would say such things. This, the chapter with Chimata having lost power due to the internet, and even the role of Kutaka made me realize how the newer games are going and how they're contributing to the lore. The newest games are less about whimsical places of religion and magic, and more about cheating, capitalism, despicable drama, and mainly; the evils of humans simply being more aware, though forgetting their belief makes things reality. I wonder if ZUN is okay, since it's really concerning, and sort of a dark turn for the series to simply just explain game gimmicks(though I'm aware they're introduce mainly for those). I love franchises that are basically playgrounds for fanwork with how much they have, yet so much they leave out. Touhou gives me so much inspiration, that I don't know where to even start, even if I have a fan character for it. Thank you for giving us this video.

Here's a theory I have that relates to this video(even if I made it before watching). Basically, I'd consider games starting at 16 to be in a whole new era, like with PC-98 and Windows. Of course, several characters from 6-15.5 are still around, but a lot of them are pushed to the sidelines like in 18's cards. Now, ZUN is changing the formula in each game with these huge gimmicks, and even things like character designs are drastically different. Plus, a lot of fan-work only extends to 15.5 by themselves, like the Touhoumon series and Walfas. Not to mention, older characters like Nitori are seemingly being replaced with newer characters like Takane, as you mentioned with the Kappa and Yamawaro. You could also argue Aya with Megumu. Again, like with PC-98 into Windows, this sort of repeats off of potential character replacements like Yumeko and Shinki with Sakuya and Remilia, or Meira with Yorihime. Of course, where you draw the line on "replacement" depends on opinion, but it feels like it's somewhat present to me. As for what I said earlier about character designs, it seems as if ZUN's art style stopped drastically changing game-to-game at 12. Before that, there was more present shading, and less of that blotchy texturing for the clothes. The faces in the newer games(around 14 and onward) are really flat to me now, and the clothing designs are less... Fancy? It's a little hard to describe, but I can really feel it subconsciously. I'm not the type to say his style new-or-old is bad, really, but it's another thing I'd say I should mention. Lastly, there's a lot more fighting games and other decimal-point sidegames. Like, almost every entry has a .5 to go with it. TL;DR, It seems as if ZUN is making another soft reboot of sorts, starting at Touhou 16. I don't know what to call it, and it's not as drastic as PC-98, but he's really starting to focus on different things now than he was from 6-15.5 or so. It seems bittersweet, really.
