This is a song that people have been begging me to play my dad since the start of the channel. It's finally here - Dad's first reaction to DMX - Slippin'. I am unfamiliar with DMX myself, only knowing his big hits like "Where The Hood At" or "X Gon' Give It To Ya". So, if there are any other DMX songs that would be great for my or my dad to hear please comment them below!

Although I briefly mentioned it in the video, I was confused as to why this song was censored despite the rest of the album being explicit. If anyone knows why please let me know below! Thanks for watching ✌🏻

My best guess is it was edited for radio play. It was heavy in rotation on the air back then.

The reason given for the censorship of the song is because the artist whose song was sampled, the great Grover Washington, Jr., wouldn't allow for any remake of his song, "Moonstreams", to include profanity on the final record.

I saw him in concert, I remember he used to end each show with a prayer. He was so genuine and spiritual and loving. The “I can’t get up” part always gets me too esp the second verse. And when he talks about needing to get high to get by, and how his day starts with smoking weed, then drinking made him mean/angry, and finally he’d do coke which made him violent, enough to mug people - he’s talked about that. He was on drugs very badly, that’s why he didn’t care about his appearance. He stayed on the streets with a bloody knife (mugging). Very dark. Dmx stands for dark man X. Dark is his bad side, man is who he is at his core, and X is what you don’t want to know. He explained it kinda like that. He does a lot of dog references because he would befriend/take in stray dogs, he felt they were the only trustworthy thing. He would sleep with them on top of buildings when he was homeless. May he be at peace, he overcame his struggles and was lively. I’ve been binge watching you guys. Y’all are awesome 👍

@@frontroom he’s definitely worth learning about. DMX was given crack unknowingly by a male role model. His interviews about his early life are beyond heartbreaking. He did try though. He married & loved his wife (the boo mentioned in the song) the best he could. He loved his kids. He loved God & prayed in concert & on his albums. A tortured soul who definitely earned his rest.

Bro I read a biography by him, his childhood was terrible, his mother used to abuse him and violently beat him while praising and cherishing his sister because they had different dads, then he was tricked into smoking crack as the previous comment stated. He even had a dog who was his best friend at a low point in his life that was gunned down by the police.

DMX was born in Baltimore and moved to Mount Vernon, NY. This song speaks about the hurt, pain, trials and tribulations that he endured as a child. His mother named him after one of her boyfriends, and some of the guys used to beat on him and so did his mother. His mother disregarded his presence because she was always high. He found a friend in dog, he felt loved unconditionally and not alone. They slept on rooftops of his apartment building. He was talking about his ex wife when he said and to my boo who stuck with a n through all the bullshit because it's due, her name is Tashera. It's like he predicted his future.

Back on the scene at fourteen with a scheme To get more cream than I'd ever seen in a dream And by all means I will be livin' high off the hog And I never gave a fuck about much but my dog That's my only mothafucka I hit off with my last Just another lil nigga headed nowhere fast Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I can't get up Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I can't get up (I will hold you down) Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I gots to get up Get me back on my feet so I can tear shit up ('Cause I got your back, I got your back) Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I can't get up Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I can't get up (Oh, the Lord is with you now) Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I gots to get up Get me back on my feet so I can tear shit up (And He got your back, He got your back) That ain't the half, shit gets worse as I get older Actions become bolder, heart got colder Chip on my shoulder that I dared a nigga to touch Didn't need a clique 'cause I scared a nigga that much One deep with the pit startin' shit for kicks Catchin' Vicks, throwin' bricks, gettin' by bein' slick Used to get high, just to get by Used to have to puff my L in the morning before I could fly Ate somethin', a couple of forties made me hate somethin' I did some coke, now I'm ready to take somethin' Three years later showin' signs of stress Didn't keep my hair cut or give a fuck how I dressed I'm possessed by the darker side, livin' the cruddy life Shit like this kept a nigga with a bloody knife Wanna make records but I'm fuckin' it up I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I can't get up Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I can't get up Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I can't get up (I will hold you down) Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I gots to get up Get me back on my feet so I can tear shit up ('Cause I got your back, I got your back) Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I can't get up Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I can't get up (Oh, the Lord is with you now) Ayo I'm slippin', I'm fallin', I gots to get up Get me back on my feet so I can tear shit up (And He got your back, He got your back) Wasn't long before I hit rock bottom Niggas talkin' shit, like, "Damn, look how that rock got him!" Maybe good to mention: DMX died one year ago by an OD. The guy that introduced him to hiphop is also the guy that putted crack into his joint when he was 14 years old. Which caused him to be a crack addict. The last years he became sober of crack but eventually out of nowhere he died from an OD. You'll also notice that like 3-4 years ago he was a lot heavier because he quitted cocaine and stuff. Just to know

He is and always will be my favorite rap artist. Find the explicit version. It becomes a whole different song.

Love this tune. Puts a lump in my throat, feel the lyrics hard n the track fits perfectly with the feeling. R.I.P DMX. Find that peace bro👊🏽. And love these 2 guys. Great to see father n son bonding over great music. Nuff Respect👊🏽🇬🇧

This is a masterpiece. His story is emotional. He did sell his soul, and spoke about it with a lot of people who know him while living in Phoenix. He has a lot of unresolved issues. One of his daughter is a friend little sister. Anyways. Rip DMX.

He 100% did, but could tell he was fighting it the whole time which is a testament to his heart and willpower.

First off, In my opinion this is the best song DMX ever wrote. The emotion is so pure and honest. But most importantly I just want to say I think this video of father and son being able to sit down and discuss something like this and for the father to take it so seriously and truly want to connect to the song and the emotions involved with it with his son is just amazing to me. What a great father and what a special father and son relationship!

One of the greatest hip hop songs ever. Really, really has pulled me back from giving up a number of times. Hip hop is not the clown show we see today. It has unlimited potential to touch the soul. Cool channel, fellas. Just found these videos
