The last samurai visits Daichiji temple in Koga city, Shiga prefecture and introduces its unique garden created by Kobori Enshu and the beautiful big Buddha created by Gyoki, a famous monk in the 8th century. The karesansui garden is the shape of treasure boat in which 7 deities of Taoism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Shintoism are on board. They are Jurojin, Fukurokuju, Bishamonten, Benzaiten, Hotei, Daikoku and Ebisu. This great boat is believed to bring us happiness.

Thank you for watching. The meaning of this garden is concrete and easy to understand, I think.

How beautiful and amazing this place is! It is very rare in the west when people will maintain and expand upon old buildings instead of letting them become ruins. Japan, perhaps because the building materials are different, seems to take much greater care of all manner of old buildings! I wish I could accompany you on these journeys! Watching these videos is the best next thing! Thank you!

Thank you for watching Deep Japan. In Nara there is Horyuji temple. It is the oldest wooden structure in the world, 1300 years old. If you have time, please check other episodes.
