Daihatsu Hijet SP83 Clutch . This Daihatsu Hijet SP83 mini truck , had a problem where it did not want to move. After looking at the mini truck we determined it needed a new clutch.I verified everything from the clutch pedal to the pressure plate was moving and working. I then removed the transmission and transfer case from the Daihatsu Hijet mini truck. The reason the mini truck did not want to move was , the clutch disk was worn and coming apart. I installed a new pressure plate, clutch disk and throw out bearing. Daihatsu Hijet mini trucks are not that bad to work on , but different than what i am used to.

I am impressed that you got that thing apart and back together and running without too much hassle, Terry. BTW, to change the oil you just lay 'er on the right side and out it all comes. LoL Thanks for taking us along.

Hi, you may be able to help me. I have a u42t with a 3g83 and it does have 4x4. I'm in need to know what transmission alignment tool is need for it. I'm dead in the water.

@@yoshimetsu8069 I have used an old spark plug, wrapped in black tape. Or a large bolt that fits the pilot bearing , then wrap the rest of the bolt in black tape. Enough to fit the clutch disc.

Yay you look good on that side like us haha, they make cool baby big rigs! Imagine a 5th wheel, chrome stacks, LOL. I used to work on buses with underslung engines on their side, they do look very weird

Cool little truck, that sort of thing would be handy around the farm. BTW when I went to New Zealand I had a hell of a time trying to drive from the right side of the car, really weird to shift with my left hand.

I guess they go to extreme lengths to make an engine fit. Even if you just lay it on its side.

Hi, I have the 4x4 Van with no Hi or Low like you have. The engine is a very good engine, that the makers say will do 300,000 miles before any main engine strip down is required. That's the normal, if all engine oil has been changed with good quality oil on the time and mileage in the book.

How did you align the clutch plate to the flywheel when you bolted the pressure plate back on? Could I use a suitably sized piece of wooden dowel?

Yep..Plastic hoops to hold the seat up...Thanks Japan for thinking of our well being...Not really an off road vehicle..I was thinking you've got a bell housing full of clutch plate fluff from the start...it's fun on that side mate..lol

ZIGgassedUP Not sure where all the clutch disk went , but i expected more fluff too. It was no fun at all . I tried driving on the wrong side of the truck and wrong side of road like you guys do , but cars kept trying to hit me , no fun at all . lol

I found out what happened when I stabbed the trans in the wrecker!!It seems as thou the bearing in the trans was bad alot of shaft play,When I changed the clutch I pulled the pilot bushing out, and replaced it with a pilot bearing when the 2 meet it squashed the pilot bearing!! It's apart again but now I'm going to tear in to the trans and fix the bearing and when she goes back together it will have a pilot bushing in it. No bearing!

Terry, Cool little truck! Is it Urs now??? Does someone use it on a farm or something? Around me, when they go up for sale, typically they have very low miles, but, they want like $5K for them. Seems that parts are available though... Thanks for posting!

Do you remember where you got the clutch kit from and what to paid for it? I think mine is slipping and high rpm and under load.

Was thinking one end was threaded with two nuts to adjust . but been a while so i can not say for sure now.

lol its what i call a sooty van, similar to one on kids tv "The Sooty Show" :-) That one looks like its got the wrong diameter wheels on, perhaps that wasnt too kind to the aging clutch, who knows. They dont go fast or ride smooth but for diddy jobs they are handy, fuel economy on some was great as the engine wasnt much bigger than a motorbike engine. You did lock on to the sump didnt you lol, it works anyhow :-)

wtbm123 Your just used to driving on the wrong side of the road ha ha , just joking :-D, dispite it not being the normal run of the mill design you sorted it!! Odd designs often become collectables years later, yup its mad lol.
