We have a Daikin monobloc ASHP. On the whole, our experience of the heat pump has been excellent though the same cannot be said of Daikin customer services and their Portuguese call centre. The GWP of refrigerants is a significant concern. While modern refrigerants may have short atmospheric half lives, they are extremely potent greenhouse gases and given the expected growth in heat pump installations, after life disposal is critical to their green credentials.

@@HeatGeek in most tech spaces in the UK the structure tends to be that the UK entity buys the kit and sells it (usually to distribution) for a commission. This allows the manufacturing location to ‘manage’ the local UK profit and therefore how much foreign tax is paid. As you allude to, this is often packaged with ‘need to know’ levels of technical product knowledge and also very limited access to software and firmware details. As the software and firmware is the core of the competitor edge this is hardly a shock as security is key. Hence UK tech support staff are often really more marketing and simply can’t answer deeper questions. Both V brands are examples of the latter (my opinion and no offence to the local guys who only know what they’re allowed to know).

Adam. You saying about running the ASHP with radiators at DT 5 got me thinking as my manual says to use the option of FCU when using radiators or floor obviously for ufh. Mine was set on FCU so I changed it yesterday as a experiment and I have found even today with an ambient temp of 6 the house is still increasing slowly with a flow temp of 33 which I think is amazing so thanks for the tip

Thanks for sharing! I'm one of those weird swedes who uses geothermal Altherma for heating our 1930's house. Doing my best to bring down the water temp (increase the efficiency) and tweak the settings but suspecting that our old section radiators which, have very limited surface area, might be the main problem. I'd happily join a call to share my experience as a advanced end user. PS. I've also setup a service which is controlling the offset hourly using the current energy price as input. DS.

Thing is they were saying that i wpuld have to route a 5mm sq and two 2.5mm sq cables to supply the thing😮😮😮. This was off Daikens circuit diagram. I recently say a Vaillant 5kw with 1 x 2.5mm sq supplying it. Both were Monoblocks and not rediculous distances from the CU.

We have a Rotex Sanicube. It is a hot water storage tank. Daikin bought over the German company Rotex some time ago. The tank could be charged with a hot water loop from boiler or other sources. It also had an opening for a top entry immersion heater. When I tried contacting Daikin for the immersion, no-one was interested in getting back to me!

The more from Daikin controllers the better. I am one of many owners of Daikin hybrid athermas that have been bolted on to new builds. There has been close to zero customer interaction and system knowledge transfer from the house developer, the installer or Daikin. My wish for this channel is that you can educate as many demographics as you can on how heat pump based systems from the likes of Daikin work.

I have an Altherma 3 ASHP with 2 fan coil units each serving 2 zones. The installer is NOT educated (not that I knew that at the time of install, new build!) I can barely reach a space heat temperature of 20degC with an outside temp of 15degC. The unit gets the space warmed up 1degC then the compressor drops off and the room is cooled by 1degC. The temp is Yo-Yo ing but never getting anywhere near what I want. What I am desperately needing to understand is what is the ideal water temp to the FCUs to ensure I can get my room space to 23degC?

He has a good point on he’d rather have a cop of 2 for a couple of hours than a cop of 5 all day. This is a prime example of how heating should be designed for the customer and not always the property. Same with load and weather comp on Gas boilers. Weather comp is perfect for offices and people at working at home all day. Load comp is generally better for intermittent heating

@@TC-V8 As far as I know, an overall best for the time being. Has the best enthalpy over most refrigerants, it's natural so 0 ODP and 0 GWP. Runs at lower pressures than the HCFCs, CFCs and most HCs, which is important when it comes to running costs (less pressure, less power consumption) The problem comes with it being toxic and flammable.

Great video! thank you for creating content like this! I have a question regarding daikin madoka - as i understand, your opinion is that using madoka is good for a heatpump's efficiency. In this video, there was a good point made about compressor lifetime, which very strongly depends on on/off numbers. In my opininon, when using madoka this number increases strongly. What is better? use madoka and have a quick response to the room needs, while at the same time saving energy or think about compressor lifetime and leave unit to work on just measuring leaving and inlet temperature from the floor? btw currently i use daikin + madoka myself with underfloor heating :)

@@HeatGeek I had the same issue (works more like on/off but uses the weather curve) via Octopus Energy Daikin A2W HP install in Sep. 22. on a complete open system comprising large rads and ~450m of UFH pipework (Octopus also removed UFH blending valve and UFH pump 👌 - I had already removed all UFH controls and actuators). CoP was still pretty good to be fair however. Moved to pure weather compensation, and I would say runs longer and is weirdly able to modulate a little lower (run at lower minimum power draw to the HP). Trade off is zero room compensation/modulation, so for installers where users will not want to/be able to return to adjust weather comp. curve, this will likely work "better". Can now just adjust flow temp +/- 10C (moving the curve up/down) at any point. There are weird things on the thermostat like turn up the temp by 0.5C (where existing measured temp is say 20.5C and previous target is 20.5C), and the HP goes off!! Had to "wait until room dropped to ~0.5C below setpoint before HP kicked back in again. What is that about! (hysteris is too brutal/harsh would be my guess)

@@richardpacker7514 Pretty good on the whole. Very very good on price. Really nice people, prompt, good communications. I had a 2018 Mixergy cylinder, and they ultimately allowed me to keep it (rather than replace with a Daikin) and integrate. They were not prepared for this at install time, so this was a let down, but got sorted in the end with Mixergy helping out. Believe they should know what to do now as I think they've done a few now. Really poor insulating of external pipework (including clipping the pipe to the wall *before* insulation, meaning they cut the insulation to bits to get round the clips!). I re-did this myself, but I could have reported this to get sorted, and other people should. Heat loss calculation came in way too high (from my own measurements), meaning initially a higher output heat pump was chosen, along with higher flow temps (~5C higher on the curve) than needed (they did leave the config in weather compensation mode with room influence and a 5C +/- modulation of the flow temp, so likely mitigating the higher flow temps mostly. They did remove all controls, zone valve, mixing valve and dedicated pump for the UFH (brilliant and as per Heat Geek design guidance best practice), but let themselves down as they didn't adjust/check the balancing of the loops (or rads in the house), so I balanced it all myself! They also didn't put a Low Loss Header/LLH or Buffer, but instead put in a Volumizer on the return - again a best practice to avoid higher flow temps needed for buffer/LLH I've no doubt a "Heat Geek" design and install would be better (no-one in my area anyway), but its probable that the law of diminishing returns will apply, and would likely be higher price. A few months on, things may be better to be fair, but I would go in with "don't let perfect be the enemy of the good" mindset, and understand a big company approach they are scaling up for deployments will have limitations, drawbacks

You mentioned gshp being the way these days but if you have acres of space and have open loop you have 2 boreholes and feed oneway for cooling which heats the other borehole up and reverse it in the winter so the water is warmer as borehole water is moving very slowly so retains the heat. Not very practical for most houses but someone with a country estate could do it. The Dutch have been doing it for years in large factory and office blocks

For those not in the industry (like me), if you're curious about the discussion @17:05 on thermodynamics it's explained here (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ac-kpNB02dOugJc.html). For laymen like myself, I'd assumed heating a substance was linear, so found the statement that the temperature wasn't increasing confusing. I was unaware how energy intensive phase change is - these systems exploit this law of physics to store and release energy.

A clever buffer with certain tappings at certain heights is also a good idea for distribution, twin coil tank, one for hp the other for the stove. Hope this helps.

I’ve just had a bit of a Penny Drop moment Skater Boy. Thinking back, here in Jockoland we fitted our first ASHP in around 1984-85. They were pretty shit, but that was our earliest. UFH has been fitted here since the early 90’s. That’ll explain why the English are so far behind the Jocks. We’ve been fitting Geothermal HP’s in the Highlands & Islands since roughly 2002. I did my first Central Heating Design Course in 1980. Nothing new in this game son, well the control systems are & the electronics too. I love electronics, always have. Sorry mate, I can’t watch two of your videos in one day, your voice is too annoying, that English Twee voice is like nails down a Blackboard son. I’ll watch this fully in a couple of days. Cheers mate👍 PS. After watching the whole video & indeed digesting the complete Low Temperature concept. I feel everyone is too focused on the Heat Generation & not seeing where the big problem lies. The biggest problem is the emitters & the pitiful way they transfer heat. As with UFH, we need to get away from metals & be more focussed on Concrete. Decorative Marble emitters running at 40°C is the future mate👍👍
