It's shows like these that give "adult-animated" shows a bad rep. The problem with Mr. Birchum or Velma is that it could work, but they're too busy beating you over the head with its unnecessary virtue signaling.

Another reason to infer that a lot of this show is practically unchanged from ten years ago is Birchum being in vietnam. Assuming that Mr. Birchum joined the war in 1975 (the year the war ended) at 18 years old, he would be 67 in 2024. His character design reads mid to late 50s (as he would have been 10 years ago) but almost 70 is a complete stretch.

Dude wouldn’t Mr Birchum be 80 if he was in Vietnam? Wouldn’t the whole issue be fixed if they just made him an Iraq War veteran? Like some of those aren’t even 40 yet.

This show makes Brickleberry look like Avatar The Last Airbender.

There's a common joke on Chapo Trap House that states that political comedy usually falls apart because people often get too mad to actually make jokes. This seems like that exact problem.

So these guys are anti what they call "DEI" because 'they want talent to be hired based on their merit'. But they love casting their friends to play roles in everything they create, despite said friends having no talent nor experience in acting. Okayyy

As much as they complain about minorities existing in media, they don't even have the balls to have an exclusively white, male cast... There are women in the show that even... do things... and have jobs of their own.... His wife is a real-estate agent who probably makes a hell of a lot more money than a wood-shop teacher (which is a no-no!) And his daughter wants to cut wood too! (Isn't that a man's job? Shouldn't her dream job be a wife and mother? ) I don't know.... this show is looking pretty woke....

I think what makes American Dad or King OI The Hill work is how earnestly the beliefs are challenged but never in a scathing way. The episodes never end with Stan or Hank giving up what they believe, but rather seeing the exceptions. As well as that, the humour comes from how the attitudes of the characters are just a tad much (Hank being obsessive about propane (and propane accessories), Stan being so conservative he doesn't even realise his clearly gay neighbours are gay, etc). It reminds me of Fraiser, where the joke was how the brothers were so snobbish it hurt them. I think good comedy has to be willing to look foolish, and I don't think you can get that if you're too dogmatic, hence why the joke is always at someone else's expense with more conservative comedy. I even hate saying that, because I think you can be a conservative and funny, but you have to be willing to explore things. Like the gamer son bit; what if the son plays war games like CoD or Counter Strike, and it turns out that's how the father, being a vet, can relate to him, or even the son surprises him by being better at war than him in the game? What if the Dad gets into the game and is good; you can throw in a joke like "Wow! It's like I'm back in Nam! They've even got teabagging and slurs! Oh this takes me back." Just something, anything would have been better. I think what makes something truly bad isn't a lack of quality but wasted potential.

The real problem, they are more focused on trying to offend ✌The Libs✌ they forgot to also try to make it funny. Even South Park could do better than this crap.

This show seems kind of woke (according to the Dailywire’s ideas) the wife is a boss-babe instead of a stay at home mom. The son is a loser gamer, but the daughter is the “smart & correct” one that Mr. bircham agrees with the most. So very girl power lmao. They didn’t even have the balls to use their idea of the “conservative nuclear family” that they always say every USA family must abide to. Also the only liberal the show really dunks on is a straight white male, even though the Dailywire always complains that straight white males are the only ones people are “allowed” to dunk on in media 😂

As a conservative myself, this is what I hate about the average conservative's way of writing humor. It's a reflection of the same smugness and "you are bad" attitude that obnoxious leftists are known to the right for. Both sides need to drop the "haha, gottem" schtick. A joke fueled solely by spite is rarely ever funny.

A huge issue with the show is that Mr. Birchum is that they use so much strawman archetypes to have the show ran. When you look at other sitcoms such as peak Simpsons, American Dad, and All In The Family, the writers made sure to bring depth to the characters that are on the opposite sides of the spectrum as them. Because of this, Mr. Birchum lacks the heart and charm those shows brings. The humor in this show also wears out very quickly as the jokes have a lot of redundancy.
