Yeah I agree. As a customer I tend to go with the bid that makes sense. Some people quote low thinking they may get the job but to me I think it’s not going to get me a quality job.

Thanks so much for adding your thoughts and chiming in! It brings so much value because it comes from a consumer standpoint and helps my peers validate the truth behind the video. Cheapest does not always mean best. I always tell people...Skilled labor isn’t cheap and cheap labor is in skilled.

If you know your numbers you are way ahead of most. Once you know what you have to make to cover costs, then you can add markup. You have to make money to keep business moving forward so there will be some jobs you dont want. I agree, if you are getting all bids suvmitted, you are to low, need to raise prices.

Brother, I don't EVER want to be the lowest bidder, even if I give somebody a "deal" 😂 Now, if I do a quick ( and still thorough ) job and make my hourly or higher, and happen to be "low" then I can live with that.

Exactly! But honestly we all have to start somewhere. It’s somewhat frustrating to me to see all these posts on social media about “how much do I charge for ______.” There’s no substitute for time and experience and I don’t know about you, but there are a number of jobs that I’ve lost money or just broke even. (especially when breaking into new and unchartered projects). The great thing is it only took one or two of those experiences for me to realize what my prices needed to be at... nothing but the school of hard knocks for me.

@@DaisyDukesLandscaping I hear you, and sheesh, I've probably gotten dunked even worse than I suspected on some jobs back in the day. And some jobs I've given a "fair" price on, and customers would look at me like "😶🤔 are you _sure??"_ 🤣 That's always the first clue you're charging too low, when they say that, or they get happy and get on board with your quote SUPER quick. God Bless the ones who wouldn't let me lowball myself, whether they understood the pricing of our business, business profitability in general, or whether they just understood this is hard work and it should demand more than what I was asking. I also get what you're saying on the school of hard knocks, but most of us started in a place where we were basing prices against previous employee wages, like "I can make 2 or 3 times more an hour than I was making at that Best Buy or the factory 🤪💰😎" but with experience you learn that the work is worth more ( not to mention the other costs that come with running a small or large business), so I don't mind the idea of pointing new people in the right pricing direction, as to keep or even _raise_ the standards of our industry, because alot of consumers are confused out there about the value of the work. Of course new people can't necessarily demand the same hourly as experienced people, because efficiency and skill should play a major part in pricing....
