By “I promised you an eternity of misery”, I think Damon meant he will always take care of Stefan no matter what i takes. This character is absolutely amazing.

How is Damon supposed to believe in himself, when all of his friends and family never totally believes in him? No matter how much they try, Stefan, Caroline, Elena, Bonnie and so on always has a little sliver of doubt in them about Damon, they never believe a 100 % that he could be good :D He is by far the most developed and well rounded character on TVD and that is why people love him..

Always the relatable brother. Him hiding his feelings. Being constantly compared to his brother. Loving someone and them not loving you back. Damon felt like he was never enough, I feel that way all the time. Damon felt regret, shame, and hurt just like Stefan. Damons the killer yet Stefan most likely killed the same amount of people as Damon. Then the great excuse came. He was the ripper he wasn't thinking clearly. When Damon hurt people he always felt horrible. You could see it in his poor broken eyes.

One of the reasons I love this character is because he's so relatable, and just simply real. His character has soo much depth and it's beautiful. Damon salvatore will always have a special place in my heart

I feel like the only character the writers have the guts to give proper development is Damon. Whenever the other two screw-up there’s always an excuse or is brushed under the carpet. *Stefan* Stefan stalks Elena for 3 months - Brushed under the carpet Stefan doesn’t tell Elena she’s Katherine’s doppleganger before sleeping with her - Swiftly brushed under the carpet Stefan risks Elena’s life when he doesn’t have his bloodlust under control (1x18-1x21) - Oh it was just the bloodlust clouding his mind Kills tons of people in the summer - He had no control, he was a ripper Stefan calls Elena a human bloodbag - Oh he was a ripper, he wasn’t himself back then Stefan tries to drive Elena off Wickery Bridge - He was having blood-control issues Stefan lets Elena die - He was “respecting” her choice (even though he fails to do the same three episodes later when she decides to ask Damon for help) Stefan can’t accept Vampire Elena - She’s not herself anymore so maybe he’s justified. *Elena* Uses Damon as her whipping boy, pushing and pulling him, giving mixed signals - NEVER MENTIONED EVER AGAIN ON THE SHOW Elena chooses Stefan yet again but it clearly is a mistake since she goes to Damon 6 episodes later - Never even mentioned, let alone be treated as a mistake for which she needs to redeem herself in Damon’s eyes. Elena turns off her humanity and goes down a dark path after all the pain she’s been through - It wasn’t her choice, Damon made her do it Stefan and Elena’s mess-ups are always left ambiguous which restricts space for their proper character growth Now look at Damon Comes into town to destroy it and release the tomb vampires on the town people - No excuses. He was evil. He spends the rest of the season redeeming himself by protecting the town from those very tomb vampires, almost losing his life in the process. “I came into this town wanting to destroy it. Tonight I found myself wanting to protect it. How does that happen?” Snaps Jeremy’s neck - No excuses. Spends the rest of the season protecting Elena and trying to be her friend to redeem himself. Let’s his humanity back after an intense internal conflict because SHE wants him to feel. Forcefeeds Elena his blood (to save her life, but even so) - No excuses. Realises his mistake, apologises to Elena and spends the next few days running around doing damage control to prevent the sacrifice. Snaps Ric’s neck - No excuses. Apologises to Ric and spends the next few episodes trying to get back his friend. Every mistake Damon has been treated as one. This has led to further character development for him. The writers don’t fear to completely break him down to build him back up again. As Damon says in 2x21 - “It was ALL ME” And that is why he will always be the most real and favored character on TVD for me

DAMON is the only tv show\movie character that I really feel sorry for ... like he really exists ... (he deserves to be loved .)

I have so many shows I love. So many characters I love. But he’s my all time favourite. You know why? Not because of his womaniser charm ( it’s a good one though) or because of his cunning humour and intelligence. I love him because of his compassion that’s hidden deep within his heart. Over the years, Ian gave so much to this character. He brought out his compassion slowly for all the people this character cared about. I don’t get how people could hate this character. He went through so much, and he suffered for all the people he cared about. Lets not forget that in season 1’s finale, he saved an entire town, and put himself in danger. He saved the whole town from the originals the best he could. In season 5, he saved everyone before he could save himself. He saved Elena numerous times, and was always there for his best friends , Alaric and Bonnie. He was the perfect brother. He took care of Stefan since he was young, even if their father was so fucked up. He was always pushed around, rejected by the gurls he loved because they always chose stefan, (i have no idea why they would choose stefan) and was abused by his father. He always pretended to be the bad guy when he really was the guy who saved others. he was always scared about what people might expect from him if he showed too much kindness. But this character was the best older brother, best friend, husband, and probably a father, which he would be great at as well. His selfishness, is what saved others. This character truly deserved peace with the love of his life in the end. A reunion with his brother. He’s been through so much, he came to mystic falls, to destroy it and everyone in it, but that one girl, changed his heart, and his brother was always there for him. He left mystic falls, protecting everything and everyone in it. He’s always going to be my favourite. This beautiful character who fights through everything, to keep his loved ones and other people safe and happy. He’s truly the best character on television there ever is. And it’s all credits to Ian and the TVD cast who helped bring this beautiful character out. I will always love him.❤️ for his selfishness, his badass self, his compassionate self, his pure love, and his womaniizing skills.🤪❤️😂 “He IS the better Man.”

I really love the way his character progressed through the series, how he fell in love with Elena, how he changed his evil ways, how he tried, but mostly of how selfless he truly is. He continuously says he is selfish, Stefan says there is no humanity left in him etc... but really, there is. He's selfless, human because he makes mistakes and accepts them. He accepts himself. He accepts that he's a vampire and living off human blood comes with that, but he's seen as a bad person for this.

He is the most diverse, complex, misunderstood and real/authetic character in the whole series. Only few can understand his true and beautiful substance. Only a look in his eyes can reflect the torment and torture of his soul. I am proud to be a Damon's supporter. He is the only fictional character who has captivated me to ther point of crying for his unhappiness. I love him SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much

Ain't gonna lie this made me cry. Damon is such a great and complex character. There's so much depth to him and ugh, there are no words to decribe how much I love him. Favorite character EVER. I hope that in the end he gets what he deserves and seeks for.

Honestly, people who don’t get this mysteriously attractive, compassionate and smart character are basically just messed up teens who can’t analyse deep within this character and all the reasons for what he did. When he said “if you’re gonna be bad, be bad with a purpose. Otherwise you’re just not worth forgiving.” And that’s his whole story. Everyone pushed him around, abused him, hated him, he just wanted love but was always rejected, and don’t say he could have done better because the people around him changed him. But he always took back what was his, and if people hated him for it, he continued to be the bad guy. This character has so much depth in him, that the people who hate him are too dumb to see through his clear intentions. And why those intentions exist.

He relates so much to me that's why I love his character and also that he's hot. 🔥 💜💜

I think a lot of people like to ignore the fact that they've written these vampires with heightened emotions. Millions of Americans suffer from emotional issues. These vampires would have it worse. "You don't strike me as somebody who gets depressed." Damon gets depressed, and he's most certainly drinking himself through it. That's why Alaric ends up dead. Because instead of giving Damon time to mourn his own loss of love, Alaric pushed for his revenge.

Damon had every reason to promise Stefan an eternity of misery. He didn't just force Damon to turn. He forced him to turn with the idea that he'd live an eternity without Katherine. Damon follows through with his promise. Every time Stefan tries to settle down into a human life, Damon is there to remind him that he forced his own brother to become a vampire. Don't force your brother to become a vampire if you don't want your brother to be a vampire. Blood is Stefan's weakness. Emotions are Damon's. Drown Damon in unwanted feelings, expect him to lash out. 99% of his kills are emotionally driven. He also drinks to self-medicate 99% of the time. That's why he killed Jeremy in 2x1. He drank to self-medicate his loss of Katherine, then Elena drowned him in more unwanted emotions. Had Stefan walked in instead of Jeremy, he probably would've lost his heart.

The saddest part is that everyone around him is always saying “oh he’s the villain he’s a bad guy he has no kindness he doesn’t care” which the worst part is it’s MOSTLY HIS OWN BROTHER saying it. Stefan since season 1 has been nagging and saying bad things about him every time. He was able to convince Elena to hate Damon at first. Stefan was the bad brother the whole time, yes he saved Damon multiple times but so has Damon. I would watch season 1 of tvd and all I hear from stefans mouth are “he has no kindness, he doesn’t care, he has no humanity left in him”. Damon was the one that was “evil” in everyone’s eyes so when he did something bad it would take people months before forgiving him but the minute Stefan or Elena messes up everyone is like “oh it’s fine it was an accident they weren’t in a good state of mind” like no it doesn’t work like that. Everything Damon does is for forgiveness or because he’s hurt. It will always be Damon/delena and nothing can change my mind.
