How much money should you spend on a gaming PC? Let's find out how performance scales by price if we remain value conscious on our parts list.
Here's a link to the previous video discussing the full thought process behind the $1500 build: • Best Value Gaming PC B...
Here's the parts lists:
The best performance per dollar will be found in the $1100 to $1500 range using a build similar to what is listed below:
CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X: amzn.to/3TBFNmp
(Non-x is good too, but was out of stock when filming)
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin amzn.to/4a7o23H
Motherboard: ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2: amzn.to/3wEP5Vo
RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 CL30: amzn.to/49Db2CW
SSD: 2 TB PCIe Gen 4: amzn.to/3PzEPEP
Case (Others are fine): Montech AIR 903 MAX amzn.to/3PdfPCP
PSU: Cooler Master MWE Gold 850 V2: amzn.to/3Ts30Hm
GPU choice should vary by your max budget and will have the largest impact on gaming performance out of any single part:
$1100 Build GPU: RX 6800 amzn.to/49Ig695
$1300 Build GPU: RTX 4070 Super amzn.to/49KIzew
$1300 Build GPU (AMD Option): RX 7900 GRE amzn.to/48F1gio
$1500 Build GPU: RTX 4070 Ti Super amzn.to/3IsP8GB
For $1700, upgrade the CPU to the Ryzen 7800X3D: amzn.to/3TuWf7F
From there upgrade the GPU further:
$2000 RTX 4080 Super: amzn.to/3T2ZEcw
7900 XTX is also an option to save a bit of money: amzn.to/49OPp2O
$2700 RTX 4090: amzn.to/3TcqiQ5
Spending more than this won't meaningfully increase performance, so extra funds can be allocated to making the build look awesome!
If you need to go below $1100 you will need to swap to an older generation CPU/Mobo/RAM
One option would be a Ryzen 5600 based build using these parts:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600 amzn.to/3Ve3pyE
Mobo: A B550 motherboard at a low price. Something like this: amzn.to/4c5G7Rj
RAM: 2x16GB DDR5 3200 CL 16 amzn.to/3IrQPUR
You could also cut the power supply and SSD a bit if needed.
GPU should scale with budget:
$800 build: RX 6700 XT amzn.to/3Vc4xmd
$860 build: RX 6800 amzn.to/4c38rnD
$960 build: RX 7800 XT amzn.to/4c899zS
$1000 build: RTX 4070 (or stick with 7800 XT if you prefer 16GB vram over better upscaler): amzn.to/3v3pZze

If still going the PC route, I would highly recommend checking the used market for a somewhat recent CPU/Mobo/RAM combo and then fitting in the best GPU you can. I wouldn't go below an RX 6600 for about $190 amzn.to/4a2W8Wr Disclosure: The links above are affiliate links, so I earn money on qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you.

It is not the case for everyone. Many people prefer aesthetics and you can argue with people spending thousands of dollars on interior decor and aesthetics where they don’t contribute anything. Aesthetics is important for many!

I’m on the fence about spending extra to have an aesthetically pleasing build. It’s definitely dumb to spend hundreds on RGB fans and other crap that doesn’t improve performance, but I do also feel like you want your PC to look nice and be something you’re proud of.

💯 Unless you're really on a tight budget it doesn't hurt to build something aesthetically pleasing, since you will probably look at the damn thing for years. Talking about spending maybe an extra 50-100$ to buy a nice case or a cooler solution that you find nicer to look at. Just don't overspend, I personally really regret investing way too much 4 years ago on Corsair's RGB ecosystem. It wasn't just expensive, it adds so many extra wires that I get the feeling I'm constantly fighting with a Kraken inside my case. 😂😂 Not to mention the RGB bloatware you have to install under Windows, potential extra difficulties you'll face with controlling these fans while using a different OS like Linux.

personally i think the true bottom end for a gaming pc build is an i3 12100/r5 5500 (both around a 3600 level of performance) paired with an rx 6600. wouldn't go any lower than that, but it does make for a really solid 1080p build for like $550

I absolutely agree with the sentiment of price to performance first. I think alot of people overestimate the impact RGB or color matched components have on their PC-enjoyment. A much bigger impact in my opinion is choosing a case that has a nice finish (paint, buttons, ports, etc.) because these are the things you interact with the most. This should be so much higher on the list compared to color matched internal components or exsessive RGB lighting. I personally like LED lighting alot, but alot of these RGB computer components have unpleasend color rendering. I would recomend buying some nice high CRI LED strips or RGB strips with a diffuser to stick under your desk for example. It has a simmilar effect on your room and can be operated independent of your PC.

When I build a PC, an upgradeability path is paramount for me. Daniel talked about certain upgrades you can get for when you scale your budget up. Personally, I have been swapping components in a single PC since 2009. The only original component today is the blu-ray drive. I woke up this morning and decided it was time to upgrade the mobo/cpu/ram, and clicked on this video for inspiration. I was immediately a little disappointed because the Mobo was a B650M. I will now be looking instead for a mobo review video, because I am not confident this is the mobo that will last for me.

I've seen so many builds where someone spent $500+ on just fans, RGB, cables, and then some people even complain that the performance isn't what they thought it was going to be.... Like you, I've always gone non-rgb flashy builds. All black, clean and majority of $ going in to performance components not into flashiness. But some one wants that in their budget, they just need to accept what they are sacrificing in their budget.

I don't even consider any Aesthetics unless I have money leftover AFTER purchasing flagship or close to it hardware like a 7950X3D and an RTX4080 Super. Or I make a quick build in the shopping cart and then exchange parts for different aesthetic designs of the same parts. Like when I got an rtx 3090 I just looked at other 3090's at the same pricepoint or lower that were more pleasing aesthetically.

price to performance you want as much performance as get for money (l always done this my PC well l got a nice simple case a black box that air cooled not RGB ) Now aesthetically pleasing builds cost money and add nothing to performance Yes you can polish you build l start with nice case that includes fans and l stay away from the white parts as they cost far to much extra money

Tbh, I strongly doubt that extra money spent on a cpu would end up being worth it... the 5800x3d is the only real upgrade for you in terms of gaming and honestly, the improvements you ll perceive will either be minimal or not existant...assuming that anything past 100 fps won t really matter in your perception when gaming. I had pretty much all the cpus of the AMD line up, paired with lots of graphics cards up to the 6800XT tier and I ended up buying a 5600 for my leisure build and in the other, more workstation style build, I simply kept the 3900XT. Edit: Let s not forget that in about 2-3 years, lots will have the itch to change platforms and upgrade, there ll be a fairly buyer friendly used market for the 5800x3d or 59xx cpus.

About $1000. A new HP mATX tower (i5/12GB ram/1TB ssd) for Work/School is gonna run about 600. A new PS5 is 450. So any "gaming" PC is gonna be competing at that combined price point. Ofc this assumes you would consider using a PS5 instead of a gaming computer. JMO

Still running my 5800x3d + 6700xt build, very happy with it. I splurged on a 4090 system over a year ago when I got my first big job but wasn't satisfied with it as I'm not into playing tech demos. Sold the 4090 system to a friend of mine at a discount a couple months later and kept my 6700xt build for myself. Also sold him my 4k monitor and got a 1080p 240hz OLED which is much more useful for both my esports sessions (Dota2) and games like Elden Ring, Metro Exodus, etc. Don't think I will upgrade till the next RX8000 drops as 6700xt still plays games very well at 1080p even with some RT, especially if the RT in the game is optimized like in Metro.

But at 1440p, on avg there is just 10 fps difference. This is usually the case for graphically demanding games, and 7600x easily give more than 240hz monitor’s 240 fps On competitive games. But then all the reviewers said 7800x3d is generational and it is so much better than anything. And i see this video rn. Idk what to do.

My 2 cents is that if all you do is office stuff and browsing you could do on a chromebook and gaming you shouldn't spend more than the amount of money you'll spend on games over the amount of time you intend to keep that particular gaming computer. If you do more with the horsepower a dedicated gpu can offer then things change, but if all you do is gaming you should spend roughly as much as you do on games over the years you intend to keep the machine. You upgrade every generation? spend as much as your games would cost you over two years. Every other generation? the equivalent of your game budget over 4 years. Every three generation? as much as you intend to spend on games over 6 years. The longer you intend to keep the machine the more powerful your components need to be. But spending more on a gaming PC than you do on games themselves seems daft to me. Spending $3000 USD on a gaming PC only to spend all your time in Stardew Valley seems like a massive waste of money - again, to me. (that or hyperinflation) But spending $800 USD on a gaming computer only to spend $2000 on games - especially if you're not actually going to play most of the games you buy - seems equally wasteful. But again, this is just my 2 cents.

My point is, that if you buy 2700$ top build now and I will have a build for 600$ with possibility to upgrade every two years, I am allowed to upgrade 4x (after 2,4,6 and 8 years). 2700-600=1900 1900/4=475 So I can spend every 2years 475+200=675$ on upgrade (lets say you sell old GPU for 200$). What will looks like my rig after 8 years compared to that toptop at the end? That 2700$ build will nearly 0 value and on the other hand, that upgrade by time computer will still be on middle to high. And all that because at the start you will say 1080p at 120Hz is my goal for first step (and not 4K). Good to say, that at the beginning you will have to invest more into 1440p 244Hz or 4K monitor just to USE all that 4090 sheer power. More to it, your power consumption, based on EU avg price of 0.3EUR/kWh and lets say 2.5 hours of gaming, you will pay per year 50 USD more, so you can use in fact you can spend every 2 years 675+100 -> 775$ for decent upgrade. The 7800X3D is the strongest gaming CPU on the market and people pair it with a 4090. The 5700X3D is 50% stronger than the 5600G. It's all you need for the 4070 Super. And if not, you are doing something wrong.

@lifemocker85 depends on the game i plan on getting 5090 (if i have enough by then) 4090 isn't good enough for the price and 12 is fine for most games only new titles at max graphics but even then the card would probably be a 1080p card anyway to get playable framerates

Ive bought a ryzen 5600 and 4070ti super 32gb ram what do you say?
@JackJohnson-br4qr
@JackJohnson-br4qr 3 ай бұрын
It depends on the resolution and games you play. The number of frames is the most influencing factor for CPU load. If you play around 60 FPS with higher settings and resolutions the 5600 is mostly OK. But if you want to play at 1080p Medium, the 4070 Ti Super is powerful enough to jump performance over 150 FPS even in very graphically demanding AAA games. Then the 5600 isn't enough.

I felll it struggle on games that require cpu like cyberpunk sometimes the gpu is only on 80% of use and de cpu 78% but I still get 100+ fps with FG on but I dont play competitive games and the high demand games will play around 80+ fps on ultra but yeah the cpu can’t push the card sometimes

🙂 i think u should look at the lenovo prebuilt on microcenter and newegg, 700 and 650, u get ryzen 5 or 7 and a 3060 card, use that as a metric for price and specs, then look at all the other prebuilts, then see if u can beat it using parts and build it urself. Dont spend too much unecesarily if ur just going to play a couple very light free to play games.
