I wish viewers would include their monitor specs and favorite genre of games, because the optimal build can vary drastically if they play mainly singleplayer 4k, versus 1080p 240hz+ multiplayer. However without this information I still think it’s a good idea to recommend a CPU heavy alternative. Knowing that 1080p/1440p make up the overwhelming majority, and checking online stats we can see games like CS2, Valorant, Fortnite, Apex Legends, R6S, PUBG, Rust, etc are the most popular. In these multiplayer games it’s common to see the 7800x3d being 20-30% faster. I would’ve included a 7800x3d alternative with a somewhat slower GPU (7900gre, 7900xt, 4070S), but still very solid for 1440p on more GPU bound titles.

@@ssjbargainsale TLDR Basically hit and miss some might be broken, some cant reach 60 fps some struggle for 45 fps. Depends on game. I use 'questionably obtained' ps3 games however games struggle functioning even ignoring cpu speed issues or broken game dump issues. Like motorstorm has a bug where vehicle randomly explodes/crashes. (very common) Ratchet ps2 ports work well (outside the port original bugs with helmets and 4:3 cutscenes in 16:9 rendering things not intended) Ratchet ps3 native games have issues with crashing. I havent tested performance with very many games. I think Ratchet games ps2 and ps3 should be fine. Infamous 1/2 is going too far a bit you can run them barely its like 30-45 fps sometimes 60 fps. Probably higher than on ps3 or close to same. Using AMD's upscale in RPCS3 improves visuals with Infamous 2. Infamous 2 also only runs correctly in 720p certain things like Coles face dont render over 720p. On Jak ps3 ports none should be played they can control bugs opengoal ports or PCSX2 is superior. Also Ratchet Deadlocked on ps3 i heard is badly ported so there PCSX2 is also better. Also any bug i mention are real RPCS3 bugs and not related to ARRRR game copies or CPU speed issues.

Point if note too, put the 7600x in eco mode and it loses negligible performance and dramatically reduces wattage and makes it a lot easier to cool. Basically makes it a 7600 non-x
@paulusapfel
@paulusapfel 3 ай бұрын
If I'm not completely wrong, in ur usual workload the 7600x does not use its max wattage if u look for some reviews, but is working pretty similar to the 7600. So I didn't cut the power myself, but didn't compare the power usage over time either. Compared to any Intel CPU it's super efficient either way.
@TheDarksideFNothing
@TheDarksideFNothing 3 ай бұрын
@@paulusapfel I'm not 100% sure, I'm just recalling the 7600 reviews where the big takeaway was significantly reduced power usage and temps with a pretty negligible reduction in performance. And IIRC, eco mode on 7600x pretty closely mirrored it. I could see where if you're running GPU limited it might avoid that turboing behavior that pushes the wattage up, but I have no direct info for that. Either way, I recall feeling like eco mode or 7600 non-x being a very worthwhile trade-off.

GPU is 50% of the budget of the whole build of the tower (either figure out what GPU you like then try to fit a CPU and Mobo around that same price or plan a PC then look at the pricing before adding the GPU and that price would be the aspect of how much you should plan to pay) target resolution is important to see what vram to proritze CPU barely has influence on gaming and cache is king over cores and ghz All the other accessories and components are to be built around keeping CPU and GPU stable by cooling and quality of products (VRM, power delivery, etc)

For gaming, a Ryzen 7800X3D would probably be a slightly better choice than the 7900X3D since it has a full 8 cores with v-cache rather than 6 with and 6 without. Because then you don't have to worry about whether the game is properly scheduled to the v-cache cores. If you need lots of cores for productivity, it could perhaps make sense.

Hey Daniel, yesterday I built my first PC and you've helped me a lot during the process. However, I'm still missing the GPU, which a friend of mine is getting for me once he gets to the US in a couple of days. I was leaning towards 7900 GRE, specifically Nitro+, since it seems to the best performing model and the best looking one by far, but it costs $600, $50 more than MSRP. Which other model do you recommend? Gigabyte version is sitting at $550 and looks good too. Hellhound seems good at $580 too, although I don't like it that much. I'd like to know your opinion. I also wanted to know if Newegg is trustworthy. Most 7900 GREs are only on Newegg and I won't be able to return the card since I don't live in the US. Should I stick to Amazon?

People building LGA1700 Intel setups and not taking advantage of the relatively cheap Z690 motherboards in the US, why? AsRock's Z690 Extreme at 130 USD and Velocita at 150 USD render any B660 and B760 moot for DDR4 and DDR5, respectively.

Only "small" problem would be having to do the bios update, so depending on the board and if the end user believes they can do it (maybe not something first time builders wants to jump into just yet), then definitely look at that.

@@TigonIII Both motherboard manuals have pretty decent instructions on how to do Asrock's Instant Flash (i.e. CPU-less BIOS update) as well as the clearly marked USB port for this. But yes this can be daunting for a new builder. Still, there's not that huge of an upgrade going from a 12600k to a 13600k/14600k, at least not one that I think is worth the extra ~100 USD cost.

@@DisgruntledRTFan That's why I said "depending on the board", because of course it would be easier with a board that has bios-usb and that, but if you end up getting a board that doesn't then, especially as a first time builder, you might be turned off it. Really wouldn't skimp out on wattage on the power supply regardless how much power your build is going to draw. More than often the more headroom your power supply has compared to total system usage, the better the efficiency and the PSU ends up being more quiet, you are not drawing any more power from the wall than what your components use anyway. 850W-1000W+ from a reputable brand to any build is what i would recommend as a starting point.

@@schmuckballs Look up PSU efficiency curves. Efficiency peaks at around 40-50% of the maximal load. This means that you will be drawing more power from the wall with your SFX750 than a 1000W PSU, while doing the same thing on your computer. More power drawn = more heat. This can be a good consideration when picking a PSU if you intend to use your computer a lot, that extra power does add up over the years on top of better comfort.
@TheMakk3
@TheMakk3 3 ай бұрын
@@risqlemousseux3195 And, when you budget a higher wattage PSU into your build, you have the headroom for future hardware upgrades without having to worry about wattage. A manual oc will make the 10-15% performance gap irrelevant, and I believe it would still draw less power. Just one thing: if the user sending you this build wants to oc and is capable of doing so, the 6800 is an absolute beast in that regard. RDNA2 cards have access to morepowertools for a lot of tweaking, you can even raise the fclk to match the -XT variant and so on :) A thing i noticed with the build though is the B760M mb, paired with a 13700k... it's kind of weird and partially denies my whole point of overclocking. I do think the most efficient way for them would be to get an AMD cpu (x3d chips) , go cheap with the motherboard (the x3d chips don't pull much current anyway so vrm power delivery isn't an issue + memory oc isn't really a thing for high speeds on AM5) and run an easy 2x16 6000 MT/s setup or even ddr4 if on am4. @@JackJohnson-br4qr that's unfortunate. i live in asia so local online shops offer them cheap with warranties. and the 7600 is a tad bit more expensive at 215 over here, also i dont think most people would want the stock cooler(*most*). and with the amount of money saved with the 7500f (plus a few more bucks) you could buy a pretty solid air cooler like the phantom spirit/peerless assassin.

@@Miataa'd never buy a CPU without a igpu. Having a problem with the drivers or the graphics card or whatever and u can't get into the bios. I myself 'd have been screwed last week during building my PC due to some specific problems.

@@paulusapfel doesn't hurt to keep a few discrete gpus around. but if you dont have one, the cost of buying a cheap secondhand gpu would be more expensive than simply getting the 7600/x. at that point its better to get the igpu version

I don't want to poop on Your advertiser but there is something to be said for keeping your 2070 super while your 4070ti super is in new and unproven. I love a good back up plan If you have to RMA for what ever reason.

I advise against purchasing a motherboard with built-in WiFi due to its higher cost. Instead, consider opting for a more affordable motherboard and separately acquiring a WiFi dongle, which typically costs around $5.
