The thing that makes me feel so frustrated about this situation is that her initial dream of making music would (especially now) come with such heavy baggage. It’s already bad enough that most of the adults (and her older brother when he was still a minor) created her online persona meant to bait in all that negative attention; her “last known manager” is using that accursed fake persona in tandem with an awful attack on her privacy and peace to get himself some clout and promote his scam- I mean cryptocurrency.... Seriously hoping whatever she wants to do with her life never has to intersect with social media - the hate she was still getting even when it’s fucking crystal clear that she’s a victim in all this makes it clear that she’ll have to develop quite a thick skin as that level of hate will likely never stop...

It's honestly even worse than child stars on tv/movies because even child stars are required to have a few special accommodations on set and very specific hours they can work to protect from child labor laws. I mean I'm not saying child stars are protected enough, but they have even just a little more than these online child influencers get :(
@basicallyno1722
@basicallyno1722 9 ай бұрын
Uh….not necessarily. Child star’s usually has their likeness sold without their consent to their parents...if a child influencer wants to make a post about their oppressive environment, they can Quickly do that…that wasn’t the case with older child stars who could be kept from the press and public and abused in secret. Not to mention the older days when child stars were literally indentured servants to studios who would get them full of drugs to make them work 20 hour days then more drugs to make them sleep when it was convenient to the studio. Not to mention that so many child actors have been passed around to pedophiles! There’s a lot of cons on both ends.

Is it possible that her father can somehow get custody of her? Also, I am wondering how and why her mom got custody in the first place? Katya once proposed that children should simply not be allowed to appear in media, no matter how much their parents assert that it’s their dream, etc etc. Great, like, let them dream about it then, until they’re of age. There’s just practically no way for a child to be a star without it being exploitation, from their family, the studio/label/platform, etc. If the worst outcome is that it becomes harder to create media appearing to feature children, I’d say that’s a much smaller price to pay than damaging actual kids in situations like this.

As a child abuse survivor with a psychology degree, I come down firmly on the side that Tay's situation (and the majority of family channels) was a case of child abuse. And I really think the term "child abuse" needs to be brought up more when we discuss these situations because these kids are gonna grow up with trauma and with mental health issues, and they desperately need help. And it's sad that Tay's situation has one of the happier endings. Hopefully, Tay's father intervening will have shielded her from a lot of the trauma she might have faced and she'll be able to heal. At the age of Lil Tay you don't know much / consequences, at teenage, you don't THINK about consequences/care/consider others feeling.... Especially these days, even at 20 mentally, people aren't as matured as it was back in the day but I do understand what you mean. It is no excuse and he should've known better! But when you see dollar signs, especially as a teenager......... young adult......... ah, we see this back with the British(?) I think, the one who did pranks a lot and got in trouble with the law, and the other young adult who unintentionally caused a riot. They also should've known better, but it all comes down to the ignorance. (Ironically) I hope my opinion makes sense!

Something really depressing about finishing a journalism degree and actually going into the industry was learning how much of news generation these days is just copying other news publications. Not even taking the time to research, let alone get your own sources and accounts. Just reading news from other sources and rewording it as your own, assuming that at some point up stream somebody got the facts right. Partly it's just wanting to be on time with trending topics and algorithms, partly it's the financial hollowing of the industry leaving most publications on a skeleton crew with no money for real interviewers or investigators... this is ridiculous and so sad honestly. I think, ultimately, if Lil Tay does come back, and *she's* the one to want to do this, all herself, it should be viewed from the lens of this 100% being a child still and that her actions and views are of someone who's been through a *lot* and may be struggling to come to terms with it all. I mean, she was manipulated, abused, caught in a major court case, and had her *death faked online* and she's only 14-15. she doesn't deserve any of this and if she's still a little ignorant because she's a child, we shouldn't attack her over it

I don’t care who says I’m too sensitive or WHATEVER, but I was absolutely deeply disturbed and devastated when I heard the “news.” It truly knocked the wind out of me because while I did not know her personally and hadn’t even thought about her in a few years, I was genuinely grieving the future this exploited little girl was never going to get to have. The redemption story I was never going to get to read. The fact that there was no use in rooting for her to grow up and get away from her abusers because that chance would now never come. It was a very real, very emotional and genuinely dark experience, and while my immediate feeling was TREMENDOUS joy and relief that it wasn’t true, I just can’t even wrap my head around who would inflict this legitimate trauma on people. It just makes me even sicker to think about the people she is / was surrounded by and how her mental and physical safety could be at risk. She is very much still a child and her family has absolutely trashed the public reputation she’s far too young to even have in the first place. It’s so despicable from top to bottom. Would love to see her speak on this maybe 10-15 years into the future where she's hopefully free from the horrible adults using her as an pawn, but I'd be equally fine with not hearing from her again as long as she gets to live on her terms
