Dangerous Christmas Laser Show Upgrade - 1000x Stronger

6 жыл бұрынEver see those Christmas light show things at the store and think they would be a lot cooler if they were 1000 times stronger? I did at least, so I made it happen.

Yeah don't do this one at home kids.
In this video I tear down a cheap laser projector that I bought at Farm and Fleet, and do a bunch of mods to it so I could jam in a 5W blue laser diode. The puny little power supply couldn't handle the huge laser, so I had to make a new driver from scratch. Plus, the original optics melted almost immediately, so I had to upgrade them so they wouldn't explode after being hit with 1000x their rated power.
More videos coming soon! In the near future I'm planning on doing videos on wireless energy transmission with lasers, testing more crazy recipes from the chemical formulary, as well as some other stuff. Stay tuned!

They can't do anything. Even a single stationary concentrated beam would probably not puncture that can. And if it did, it wouldn't set it on fire because the adiabatic cooling would be faster than vapor buildup.

I repair laser based devices (Electronic Optronic Technician) in the Canadian Armed Forces and I just wanted to say how much the guys in my shop and I enjoy your projects. I say there are 2 kinds of EO techs, those who watch your videos and go "holy crap that is awesome" and those who say " I don't get it". @@reaxt Russia has a laser ak so I assume nato has similar things on the go. It can be useful for drone situations due to price, this is something being developed. It does seem though that defensive counter measures, anti personnel as well as possibly main battle tank weapons in the works it seems

You didn't have to swap out the heat sink. Hobby shops sell varying sizes of extremely thin walled brass, copper, and aluminum tubing. I'm sure one would have worked. You find a close size then slit the tube lengthwise so it fits snug using some thermal grease.

The awesome thing about lasers is that there is no real physical limit to how powerful they can be, how much energy / light you can jam into the same narrow beam (well until you distort spacetime and create a black hole lol, but then you can just make the beam wider instead). Check out some of Isaac Arthurs videos on dyson spheres around stars. You can concentrate the light output of an entire star to literally, no i mean literally by the laws of physics, roast an entire planet to its melting point :D Hilariously even a single civilization with 1 single dyson sphere could roast every habitable world in our galaxy in only a few million years (just need a second for each star system, roasting all planets inside). Wow. Great video. I wish I had a fraction of your knowledge. I burned up a green lazer and removed it from the gatling looking host and I want to find a way to build a new and improved lazer to put into it. Around the 1 watt range. I have a blue 1 watt lazer in the same type host, so I figure it can be done. Well I might give it a try if I ever figure out how. Lol Keep up the awesome videos. 😎👍
