In this documentary we take a deep dive into the life and legacy of Daniel Caesar, the Golden Child of R&B! From his humble beginnings growing up in Oshawa and being homeless when deciding to make it as a successful musician to becoming a "seemingly" overnight success with his album freudian then losing a large chunk of his fanbase after being canceled for defending YesJulz. We'll touch on all of this, more and how he managed to come out of the fire as a respectable musician with a bright future!
I really gave this project all I had and think its one of my best so far! Let me know your thoughts down below in the comments. I'll see you guys again soon.

His "cancellation" was successful because Daniel offended his core listeners, black women at the time. Daniel really undermines how important it is for an artist to have that core, loyal audience. Black fans are really important to a black artist career, as they are first supporters to these black artists. I think Brent faiyaz benefitted from his downfall, as he skyrocketed in fame with his album Fuck The World.

I know quite a few of us did that Celie/Color Purple Hoodoo hand sign against him when he told us to cancel him, lol! I mean he wouldn’t be cancelled if his fan base wasn’t majority of the people he offended. If others supported him just as much he would still be where he was or even bigger by now. No one has ever cared about black women on a global scale enough to stop supporting anything that may harm them so they won’t not listen to his music because he said something about them, he seems cancelled because that was majority of his fan base.

Dmb comparison that doesn't have anything to do with Daniel. R Kelly had a 30+ year career with a diverse fanbase so people have made memories with his music and while some make excuses for him, the truth is most of the Blck old school music guys were all deviants. Caesar was a new artist with a very niche fanbase. A better comparison would be Chrisette Michelle becauseshe also had a niche fanbase and she found out the hard way that you never piss off your core fanbase. @javontem3407

I won’t lie, that incident definitely affected how I seen Daniel as a person. He kind of became one of those artist where I had to tell my self to separate the Artist from the Art. I was heavily invested in his career for the longest because of the beauty of his music. However, when I heard what he said, as a black woman, it made me think, Why would I support something that doesn’t support me? I never stopped listening to his music granted if it came on the radio or if my music was on shuffle and one of his songs were in the mix. But I noticed I stopped searching for his music and when I would hear his music that’s all I would think about. Truthfully, I’m not apart of this whole cancel culture thing but for me personally I’ve always been one to believe when people are under the influence their truth comes out. And as much as it makes me happy to watch this video and that he is still moving along (as I don’t wish anything to hurt his career) I don’t think I’ll ever see him the same. No disrespect but he didn’t make any valid points on that live. It’s wild to lose your whole career caping for white people especially a culture vulture. When he made that live, I had literally heard of him about a month prior, and then that live turned me all the way off. But he also stood on what he said and didn’t apologize or address it for years. So I was very comfortable not supporting him afterward

I'm exhausted of these ideologies that foreign blacks don't understand American racism. It's the same racism and open bigotry there😂 racist ideology is not something specific to the U.S., and black Americans offer so much “grace” that it gets ridiculously nauseating. Daniel is NOTHERN American, and he was trying to protect a racist because he found her attractive and thought she would appreciate his effort- she didn't care (a lot of us have male family members exactly like him.) He couldn't even say what he was wrong about, nor did he have a response about him ostracizing his core audience- black women. We are susceptible people that are fine with the bare minimum. like, all you can say is “perfect storm” were doomed for infinity🎭 Anyway good video

No but as a "foreign" black person I barely understood what racism was till I came to america. In Africa, everyone is black. I was well aware of colorism but I didn't know it could go as far as hating a whole different race. I'm just saying this from my experience. So no, its not exactly the same. Daniel had no excuse though seeing as he's from Canada.

With more and more black people of foreign extraction gaining popularity making music, films, tv that is from Black American culture or heavily influenced by it, maybe more of them should learn to respect that they aren't of the culture and therefore shouldn't speak on our issues out of respect in the same way many don't appreciate Americans speaking on their issues. It's just having mutual respect for each other's different experiences. Hell, Meek Mill got flamed just for asking South Africans what apps they prefer to listen to music on recently.

i feel like ppl don’t really understand that he WAS cancelled. he basically spit in the face of the ppl who lifted him up, and sure it was hellas ago, and he’s got other fans, but at the end of the day the black folks that were the wind in his sails had no issue dropping him. this man at his peak was going hard, he had all the greats co-signing him, all the radio stations playing his music, selling out venues, breaking streaming records… and after he asked to be cancelled, well i don’t think he’ll ever reach the heights that we all thought he would. he was supposed to be as big if not bigger than Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, etc. Sure he’s still successful but he seriously stunted his growth defending someone who didn’t deserve it. imo he’s still successful because he’s insanely talented.

I have to say that people deciding no longer to listen to his music after he dared them to, doesnt feel like the usual cancelation. No one took opportunities from him, they just PERSONALLY decided to stop listening to him. No artists is owed peoples eyes and ears, no matter how good they are. And I hear people in the comments when they say we, black people, have issues with accountability but the "hyve mind" has a purpose ( even if its often not used correctly) and that is to keep the community as a whole safe from people who'd stab is in the back for white approval ( which has happend). Being on code has a function. Our biggest issue was his biggest issue, just having opinions without all of the facts and context and nuance. Glad he was able to reflect and change, hope he gets another chance.
