Crisis Survival - am I Prepared for the Worst?

What happens if a huge crisis arise in society? The power goes out, and everything we take for granted, stops working? Would we be able to survive without electricity?
I live in a simple house, already having bare minimum of the amenities we're used to. And to be honest, I believe that would be to my advantage when it comes to survival. And best of all - I will always have running water, even without electricity!

Don't say that Daniel. Your videos are never boring. Amazing images, interesting topics, glimpses of your life as it is. We don't need spectacular things, we just need you with your sensitivity and honesty. Your grandfather's story is an example of resilience in the face of adversity and it is that blood that runs through your veins. You have the "it-factor" sweetie and that makes everything you share special. Stunning your photo with that mask in the studio. Don't worry dear you always give your best and more and we appreciate that. Thanks a lot. See you soon.

Being creative does not always equal perfection. Your videos are always lovely and you are a sweet and charming man. Allow yourself to have fun with the process even if it feels "weird" or "boring". I guarantee that there will always be people in your audience who enjoy and appreciate what you do. Stay warm and take care! 🙂

It is a really good video Daniel. It gives us a glimpse into the real struggles that you deal with there. With how cold it is, I hope you don't get sick. Your grandfather sounds like a truly amazing man. The determination to not be held back by his blindness is inspiring! Also, I think the finally scene turned out very well. The contrast between the gray (dark of night) and the even darker figure (you) gives it a deep emotional feeling. Great work!

Like you said, it gave a deep emotional feeling! Thank you for always watching, I really appreciate you, Alex! 🥰

Daniel, this was a lovely video! You are showing us how quiet your life needs to go in the winter. It is part of where you live and part of who you are in your life and relationship to your land. The end ... while you were worrying what the camera was picking up, it was absolutely stunning! The very last frames are perhaps my most favorite of all the video moments you have shared. Also, please know that as we get to know more about you, we look forward to spending time with you even when it is not about your art ... it just feels good to spend time with you.

Wonderful video Daniel 🥰 One amazing thing you did with this video is showing everyone how quiet and serene it can be in (i believe) most of Scandinavia during winter, how quiet it can be.

Hello dear Daniel! I want to thank you for your videos. I am that same person from a stressful city who still can’t leave this city and go live in nature. Your videos are inspiring and very helpful. You are a person with a pure, kind heart and deep feelings. Your videos have a lot of funny, spontaneous moments, jokey and funny, and I laugh with you, it's so cool! Your childish spontaneity is so charming and touching, you are very sweet and gentle. I really want to hug you and wish you all the best, may all your dreams come true! You are very important and needed for the world and your videos and the feelings you share are very important. I watch all your videos and take screenshots as motivational cards! Don’t criticize yourself, you don’t have bad videos, they are all interesting and deep, and always bring something good to my day (and not only to mine, I’m sure). And this video is one of my favorites, it has the right philosophical mood and interesting reasoning. And the final scene under the moon is stunningly cinematic, as are your steps forward! The phantasmagorically beautiful sky and all the space around it is breathtaking! Take care of yourself and may all the best be ahead of you!!! I also love Swedish very much and tried to learn it several years ago. When you speak swedish, it is so charming and I want to listen to your musical language endlessly. Thank you for being in the world! And thank you for sharing so much so sincerely and from the bottom of your heart! I am writing this comment and tears are welling up in my eyes from emotions and from a sense feeling of gratitude to you for everything! Jag älskar din underbara kanal! 🦋 Med kärlek, Solveig🤍❤

Your video's make me go back in time, to my childhood. We lived in a forrester's house amidst the woods and fields. One of my tasks was to chop the wood and keep the fire going. Life was silent and pretty primitive. The house of my grandmother - who I loved dearly - was even more rough. Upstairs there it would freeze as well, and there wasn't even a shower or any equipment. Must say tho life wasn't too bad really. The world around changes so quickly. I might have the same nostalgic outlook on life as you do. 😉 Warm wishes from Christian / The Netherlands

Hearing you speak about your grandfather was heartwarming. He managed through determination to accomplish things others wouldn't dream of doing. What an amazing man!! I feel you have the same strength and determination in you, and you will use things available to you to get through the crisis that will come your way. He would be proud of you xx I used to do a lot of outdoor macro photography in winter, anywhere between -20 C to -25 C and sometimes a little colder. It was the perfect temperature to capture snowflakes ❄ ❄ but couldn't be done for long periods as the camera would start to malfunction. But I still loved it! Best of luck with your photography course!

Your videos are not boring! A beautiful journey through the Scandinavian winter world and an insight into a particular phase of your life. In the urbanized world, we lived in a degraded, artificially created world for a long time. But we have to face the fact how vulnerable this situation is. Our predecessors faced all these problems and were successful. Their lives were truly a huge effort every day. But what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. An example of this is the story of your wonderful grandfather. If you think about how much experience you already have in a given situation compared to those who have not yet faced similar survival techniques. If you are mentally strong, you can solve anything! Learning is continuous, there is no such thing as knowing everything to the maximum! Perfectionism only exists within certain limits in people's minds. But where are the frameworks and who defines them? You're the only one who thinks you're not good enough. Let this go, forever! If you're not good one moment, you will be the next. Who do you have to conform to, who expects this from you? Let's hope the situation improves soon and that the darker thoughts of uncertainty will disappear with the arrival of spring. Stay positive, create warmth in your house, change is on the way. Your community is always with you and appreciates your efforts and amazing videos. Embrace! 🥰

Daniel, I enjoyed experiencing the winter without power through your own eyes. It's very interesting really how you are living as your ancestors did before electricity and running water, relying on their wood stoves, digging a hole in the ice for their water, and having enough food in their pantry that they canned in the summer from their garden. Your blind grandfather who repaired his roof and did other things in spite of being visually impaired is an inspiration for you. You are strong and courageous to live in the far north of Sweden in the middle of the forest. The moonlit night with you sitting in the snow really captured the spirit of winter where you live. Take care. Jenny USA

Wow - the last part of this video under the moonlight was so different from your usual bright & colorful shots; however, the composition was so powerful - the shadows created by the moonlight, the cold stillness, the sound of the snow crunching under you as you walked away, and how the faint light created a dramatic silhouette as we watched you collapse to your knees - wondering what emotion you felt at that moment, I’m thankful you decided to upload that! I also would describe myself as a perfectionist & too often criticize my work. I think though this can be a good quality if you treat it as a learning opportunity rather than self-defeating thoughts. I think your storytelling is just as beautiful as your videos & I enjoy how it draws me into your world, learning more about you and how nature benefits our health. ❤

I'm glad you liked it, Kevin! That ended up being my favorite shot from this video! Definitely agree with you that being a perfectionist can be a good quality! I mean, I wonder where the world would be right now if everyone just always gave up and stoped trying to make things better! But it does come with a downside, and that's the fact that you can often think too little of yourself when you're not 100% happy with something... I hope you're having a nice winter, Kevin! 🥰

Hi Daniel, With all the modern technology we have that needs electricity, we are screwed if it all goes down. Not to mention vulnerable to financial or terrorist attacks. I truly believe we were meant to live with basic survival needs. Fire, water, shelter, and food are all we need. And because it's winter, you have refrigeration right outside your door. Lol, and the simple ways to keep yourself busy during these times helps mentally as well as physically. There's also drawing/painting and reading. I love to see you do a painting from a view from your window. It's so relaxing. Your video today is not boring. Do not worry about that when creating content. We just want to see your beautiful land and how it changes each season. And what you do to enjoy it, and when you struggle with it. You have a soothing voice and are doing a wonderful job. Each day is different and there are highs and lows, so there is no way to put out the same content that you feel is the most impressive creatively. Real life is what I want as your friend. We were without power for 5 days before Christmas. We have a generator that makes us able to use most things in the house. I'm glad you feel prepared. I loved hearing you and your team laugh while taking pictures - how fun. You looked handsome (as always) in your pictures, even though I know you were making up funny stories about the pictures. Thank you dear Daniel for this beautifully illustrated story. And it is beautiful because it is natural. I understand you, because from an artist's point of view, we know that we are showing something wonderfully perfect. So, if we have been given that gift, just being grateful helps us escape the belief that it "depends" on us. Perfection is hidden in the amazement that comes from witnessing it and then sharing it. And you do it and I appreciate it and enjoy it because none of this can be seen in a big city. Enjoy, the perfection will come from your heart.Always.🙏💛❤️💙💜 Blessings from Buenos Aires 😊☀️, Irène

Oh dear Daniel, your video was beautiful, as always! Your gentleness of spirit, the beauty of the forest, and even when you thought it was not going to be nice to see, when you were out in the moonlight, it was, quite nice~it was very dreamy looking in the muted, soft light. And how great a thing to know that if the power was out for an extended period of time, you would be fine! I hope you continue to enjoy your time in the North of Sweden, and sending 💙❤💛!

That last scene in the video with the glimpse of light and you looking at the horizont, was so sublime and symbolic! We all need to go through our winters when it is cold and you can barely see the light, but this hope and knowing that spring will come no matter what, helps to survive the most harsh conditions both outside and inside of us. Thank you for sharing from your heart, that’s what matters most! 💖

I saw more beauty in 18 minutes of video than I've seen all week. I love the stillness. You don't need to produce hours of it, snippets are fine to remind us of our connection to nature. I am also cut from the same cloth as it comes to perfectionism with my art and music. I can agree that it is a challenge to share something and purposely feel iffy about it. But we are always our own worst critics. Personally when I see people share something unfiltered and raw, something very imperfect, it is the most beautiful thing I feel I ever saw. That doesn’t take away from your own experience and the anxiety, but it helps to have that perspective sometimes. I’ve been letting myself try new things, let it be uncomfortable and keep going. I’m amazed at your strength to live this lifestyle as well!

Hi Daniel, first of all, the video was authentic and this is what makes it very good. The struggle with the cold and your thoughts about "if" something happens, it was all authentic. I loved it. So, don't be so hard on yourself. Keep this kind of real video going every once in a while. Not all the video has to be outdoor in the beautiful surrounding, Some videos needs to be about real life, real problems. Then another thing, I was really surprised that you posted this about the "if" something happens and I explain why, In the last 2, 3 days, KZfaq showed me lots of this video about prepping, or survival things, that I don't normally go looking for. Not sure if I need to take this as a sign!! Anyway, you made me think about some good points. So, thank you for having the courage to upload a video that you though wasn't good enough. Stay safe. And keep the authenticity up!

I have been learning Swedish for over 4 and a half years now but I still consider myself a 'beginner'. However, growing up in Canada and being exposed to French as well I am found Swedish easier than Norwegian. But I just stated Norwegian back up so, it might be a little bias. Lycka till Daniel.

I do hope your electric situation isn’t an ongoing thing. We get so dependent on the luxuries, that we are never prepared for when we lose power, or water. At least you have alternate ways to combat the cold. I was without heat a month ago, but still had backup heaters to help, and like you I was layered in clothing. Not the way I want to live for sure. I couldn’t even work in my studio, because it was so cold. We all need basic survival skills. We never know when we will be without. I don’t think people realize that things can happen where we will be without the essentials, and would be lost if we were put in a situation where we couldn’t get food, water, and heat. Your videos are always good. Don’t worry about them. We come for each one, and enjoy what you have to offer. To be honest I felt your suffering of the cold, due to the lighting and the fact that you had to light the wood stove to keep warm. You are a survivor. The moon shot with you out in the snow was awesome actually. There was plenty of light to see you, and the trees around you, even if the details were a bit dark. It still worked. To be a creator on here, you must be motivated. And yes, not all videos will be Grammy winning, but yours come from the heart. ❤❤

Hi Daniel, this video is magnificent in its capturing of Nature in all its glory! The creatures, the colors, the moods, all of it! I guess I watched this one of yours at the right time; I have been in a place in life where for many months now, just when I think all is well, life has gone spinning out of control again. It is in the aftermath of a tragic break-up, followed by being in a fire-I have felt like a "displaced person" as I have had to bounce around all over the place...soon I will be able to make my own choices again, and go where I want, and so, well maybe I will get a chance to travel to my ancestral homeland of Sweden, along with other trips to come soon. But for now, it's like the best "armchair traveling" to see other places. And your place and space, your sweet smile, and uplifting words, help bring me into a better head space~thank you!
