You're going to get a lot of advice here but here's my two cents worth. What you're going through is perfectly normal. Everyone questions their existence at about your age. Death will come to you eventually as it does to everyone. Life is finite, that's the beauty of it. Instead of wondering about it, LIVE IT!! And appreciate it. Never take it for granted. it is funny how i was feeling totally the same without even started to make the move 😂 i am planning in my head to buy a rural house in North of Spain in the mountains of Asturias which is my dream. Wonderful scenery, food and traditions but at the same time i feel weird and sad thinking of thaf. It is as if i feel i should spend more of my free time with friends and especially aging mother… so there is a like a guilt feeling in that thought/decision of buying it. But i also love that nature feeling, seeing mountains… (mountains Gandalf, mountains! 😂) i hope i make a good decision and not one that i regret

As far as buying a house up for government auction…you wouldn’t be putting the family out. As a matter of fact it sounds as if they would be relieved to have it sell so they can get on with their next chapter! Okay since I started this note before I watched it all the way through…I just got to the part where you say you bought the house!!!! Congratulations friend!!! It’s BEAUTIFUL!!! You are such a dear soul to have such empathy for others but like I said above they are probably relieved to not have the crushing debt of it anyway. All of that beauty turned very ugly to them. I would bet they were losing sleep worrying how they were going to meet next months bills, they probably had debtors calling them, hounding them. Maybe you could write them? Would it help you get over the undeserved guilt? I’m very confident that they are feeling better after the sale while you are losing sleep! This WILL be good…no WONDERFUL for YOU! You might actually be freeing the family. They are stuck in an impossible situation. You may be allowing them to have a new start with out the burden they have been struggling under. I think you are making the right choice.

I admire your compassion for the homeowners. Hopefully the sale of the house (to you) will allow them to start a-fresh, debt free, look at it that way. At least you want to love it like they have and it not be bought for a much cheaper price by someone who might never live there.

If the bank is selling it out from under them if you don't buy it someone else will anyway least you have feelings and care for your fellow man..

in a way, you're helping out the family... as you said, it's not your responsibility, you're a kind and considerate person, empathetic to the situation, but Life has gotten the family in this predicament, for whatever reason... on the one hand it's awful, but you buying the property is giving them a way out...
