In this video, I'm sharing why I never want to live in the US. America is a great place to visit, but it's not a great place to live. I'm bringing this up because I've gotten a few questions lately, asking why I didn't move to the USA with my ex-boyfriend.
The answer is simply that I don't think USA is a livable country. It lacks basic human rights such a free healthcare, free education etc.
I also answer a whole bunch of other questions, and made a whole Q&A out of this! Including a little story about a ghost in my house! I hope you'll enjoy getting to know me a little bit better! Thank you for watching! ❤️

Please remember to be respectful and that we all have the right to think differently from one another! ❤ Something I like, might be something someone else dislike, and vice versa. And that's okay! These are just my feelings, to answer peoples question about why I don't want to live in the US. You're entitled to love how the US works and operates! 😊 And with all of this said, I love the US in many ways. There's a reason I keep going back! ☺

Hello! I was born in the US, and have lived here my entire life, mostly, in Alaska. This Northern history is one reason why I appreciate the beautiful countryside and ice features of the content @JonnaJinton . Her channel is how I learned about you, and likewise enjoy your content. Nowadays, I live near Las Vegas, and am even closer to Death Valley. Thankfully, we have ravens in Nevada, so I am sometimes reminded of “home”. A year or so ago, I learned that I have a lot of ancestry from your part of the world. I went searching on KZfaq to find some creators in the lands of my ancient grandmothers and grandfathers. That’s how I first found Jonna’s channel. Just before 5:24, you’d shared your thoughts of some reasons why you’d prefer to not live in the US. I can think of more reasons that those you’ve shared, quite honestly. Even so, there are also many great things about living here, so I don’t mean to come across as saying that I don’t appreciate my life - I do. That said, the truth is that not one of my ancestors (so far, anyway, and I’ve traced multiple lines back over 1,000 years), is “from” North America. The blood in my veins is not of this land, even though some parts of my family have been here hundreds of years, we’re of European Heritage, like it or not, for all of the good and not-so-good implications of that fact. Germany, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England- all feature prominently in my ancestral roots. One of my lifelong passions has been learning about the people who made me and the lives they lived. Thank you for sharing your life in the countryside, and for showing up in the world as a kind soul. You are appreciated. Cheers! 😊

I don't really blame you. I've lived in the US my whole life and if I could move to Sweden or Norway, or Spain, find a good job, make new friends and become a citizen, I would. Sometimes I feel like I've been brainwashed with talk of American Exceptionalism and the belief that the US is the best country in the world and #1 in everything. Perhaps at one point that was true, but it's been a lie for a long time. I feel like this has become so much worse over the past decade, especially the last 5-6 years. As a kid, I was never, ever afraid of going to school. I knew, growing up, that guns were a thing people could own, but as an adult, I'm shocked at the number of gun-nuts there are. These people value their guns more than the lives of children or every day people. I worry about my aging parents affording health care. I worry about the quality of my life as I get older and, while the US has a lot of good things going for it, it sorely lacks in the things that really count.
@DanielErik
@DanielErik 9 ай бұрын
Oh yes, I fully believe that at one point, the US was probably one of the absolute best countries in the world! But since then, greed has been allowed to kinda take over, and a lot has changed due to that. I saw a documentary recently about guns in the US, and how kids that has survived a school shooting still believed guns was something good, almost something sent from above. I was chocked to hear their answer. But, like you're saying, the US also has a lot of good things going for it. I love traveling there, and I really do believe there's a lot of potential for it to be one of the best countries in the world again! If greed and gun culture could just take a step back, that would be a great first step! ❤️

Social media is such an interesting topic. On one hand, I love being able to share videos here on KZfaq. That I can reach thousands of people, even though I'm in a small village in the north. But on the other hand, social media often feels fake and destructive. It creates a homogeneous culture/society, where everyone thinks alike and try to look alike. There's not much room for diversity, it feels like sometimes. Oh yes, I'm very grateful! With that said though, every country sure has it's challenges - including Sweden!

Hi Daniel, I'm American too and I agree with you 100%. The U.S. has become a country of a very small percentage of wealthy people and a much larger percentage who struggle to get by and who will never own a house. Taking into account inflation and the cost of living, most Americans are earning much less than their parents did and cannot afford higher education. I wish I could move to Sweden.

We have to gangs who is now in war with each other, and it has happened too many times now, that someone innocent got in the way when they were meant to attack each other. With that said, I too can feel scared just going to a bar when I'm in the states. Especially a gay bar. You never know when there will be some kind of attack by someone with a gun... 😔 If you're looking at real estate, try looking in north Sweden; if you're lucky, sometimes you can find a pretty decent house for $40,000! 😉

I am an American and (currently) live in the US. You are so right about everything you said about the deficiencies we have in the US. As a nation we are told (by every politician) that we are the greatest nation on earth. Well, I can attest that we are not. I have traveled to many countries in Europe and I can see that we have many, many deficits that other countries do not have. Like you said, universal health care, free or reduced higher education costs, parental child care leave, prescription drug costs (they are SO HIGH in the US), and many other deficit. I am in my early 60's and have cotemplated moving to Europe for my retirement. I am still investigating it and still looking into the possibility of retiring somewhere in Europe. It's a big step and I'm not sure (yet) if I can emotionally do it. I guess it will all depend on how frustrated I become with the US system. As far as your "ghost" experience... I would look at it as your grandfather looking after you.

Hi Carl! Very interesting to hear your thoughts on this! I do believe that back in the days, it might have been true that the US was one of the absolute best countries to live in. But like you're saying, I don't believe that to be the case now (even though I really do love going to the states). Seems like Americans who have traveled a lot agrees with that, while Americans who has never left the country still believe it's the best place on earth. Hearing you say that you've traveled a lot, just makes that theory of mine more to go on. I totally understand if you end up feeling like you can't go forward with a move. The US is your home, after all. Where you've grown up, have your friends and things like that. Either way you go, I hope you'll find happiness! 💕 Yes, I do see it that way! In the moment it was scary, but now when I've distanced myself from it, it definitely feels like my grandpa looking after both me and the house here. 🥰

I almost moved to the US to live with my ex boyfriend too, but the more I thought about it, the more impossible it felt to leave my beautiful country (Finland) behind. The US honestly feels like a second world country compared to Finland. The atmosphere was more fearful somehow, I felt the misery of people when just going to the the grocery store.. That might sound a bit dramatic but it was a big difference to my country, where I have never felt that way. I just feel so much safer and more content here at home. Thank you Daniel , for answering my question. 😘 You made a lot of valid points about the US. It is my understanding, that people in Norway 🇳🇴 , Sweden 🇸🇪, and Finland 🇫🇮 are very happy with their lives. When your basic needs are met , that makes your life easier to manage. I’m a bit jealous of you living in the countryside, especially in a Red House ( my favorite color). It always sounds so peaceful, and inviting. I eagerly look forward to your next video. ❤

We recently returned from a vacation to the US. Not a place I ever want to live. Had our SUV broken into and all our luggage stolen. With crime out of control, the law there protects criminals, virtually legalising crime. Also the homeless situation is huge. We could not wait to come back home to paradise and how blessed we were compared to many others.

My ex boyfriend was an American. I’m from the Netherlands. I truly loved him as a person and as much as I love the States (people, language, nature, big roads felt like freedom, food, drinks, many good music and movies come from there) and would want to go back again one day to visit Nashville for example, because I’m a big fan of country music, I agree on your reasons why it’s not a very nice and safe place to live (anymore). I remember when I was there it broke me to see the many homeless people and drug addicts, it sometimes felt like a lot of people were desperate for help and some peace. Big difference between rich and poor as we would say here. The such high costs of college/university are so unfair to me. How are people getting out of being poor if their family can’t afford their kid’s education? And I know they have things like scholarships, but that can be hard to get and far from enough to pay the endless debts. Plus it’s so sad to see how many elderly people literally work themselves to dead to afford things like healthcare. A basic human right to me. Often I wonder if it’s really the “American Dream” as they say it is. But I see the good and bad in every country though, I think a lot of people nowadays are also not satisfied with how some things are going on in the Netherlands/Europe. But thinking about America I’m really grateful to have grown up here, even though part of my heart will also always belong in the US.

Every country has their good points and bad points. Being here in the States I can say we have our fair share of both. Sometimes what doesn’t seem right in one country is totally acceptable in another. I would agree on some points that medicines are expensive here. I also think we seem to be dependent on medication as well. If you need it, yes, but sometimes I don’t think so. We advertise now more than ever on medication, so that the public can say “ oh I need that!” And so they go get the medicine. Healthcare in general is expensive here too. If it were up to me, I would put a cap on how much we should spend. On the flip side, we pay taxes on how much we make. I know some countries pay flat rate taxes every year, so there isn’t any fuss over what to pay. Here we have loopholes, where the rich don’t pay what they should. Now I know it sounds like I’m slamming my own country, but I’m not. We are allowed to do many things without restrictions. And have many other freedoms which some countries may not honor. I think it is up to each person to feel free to live where they feel comfortable. Would I ever move from the States? I don’t know. It would have to be for the best reasons. (Being in love may be one of the reasons) Hopefully you can keep the ghosts at bay. I wouldn’t want to have one bothering me for sure. I’m not sure I’ve seen one, but not discounting the fact that they may exist. You covered a lot of questions. I am glad you have found a place to be happy. One day that right guy will come and make your life even fuller than it is now. No rush, just wait, and he will be there. As much as I’ve been yearning for that special person, I have been ok with being by myself. But one day, someone will be here with me. ❤❤
@DanielErik
@DanielErik 9 ай бұрын
Oh, I 100% agree with you here. Both on that every country has things going for it, as well as issues. Swedens biggest right now is that we have two gangs in war, making innocent people victims when they try to shoot each other but misses. Also agree with you about medication! We use way too much, globally! That's another thing we're quite good about here. I rarely see any ads about medications, and for a long time, a government owned company had monopoly on selling drugs, partly to make sure we wouldn't medicate ourselves too much. That is now gone, though. We do have a "ceiling" on how much we can spend on it though, to not make it too expensive for us. After $240 we don't have to pay anything more for the next 365 days, so that everyone can afford it. Oh, we definitely have loopholes here too, so the rich doesn't pay nearly as much as they should. Of course, the US is your home and it would be hard to move away from that, even for love, I'm sure! And there really is a lot to love about the US as well! I mean, there's a reason I keep going back there! 😊 I hope you're right! Just like you're saying, I have no rush at all. But it would be nice to one day share my days with someone else, of course. I hope someone will be there, next to you, one day as well! 🥰 May I ask, do you have a type?
@XanBos
@XanBos 9 ай бұрын
@@DanielErik I blushed when you asked if I have a type. ☺️ I don’t know where to start. I guess for me he would have to be engaging, able to carry on good conversations, can joke around, and somewhat adventurous, just not extreme stuff (although zip line is a fun time!) I like a romantic, which includes cuddles and such, but not too clingy. Someone with a toned body. Doesn’t have to be all fit, but at least is health conscious about their body. They have to be able to enjoy time with me, but also have their own interests when I’m busy creating art. And I save the looks for last, as looks are important, but personality needs to be able to shine. I know, I listed a lot, and yet not enough, but I think you get the idea. I’ve drooled over many, but never kept one around to enjoy life with. ❤️❤️

@DanielErik when you get older, retire your health starts to fail due to age. Health care is extremely expensive. You pay all your life into Medicare, then whe you are old you still have to pay. @@DanielErik Recent studies have shown that Medicare for all would be CHEAPER for the US government but there are lots of high-paid lobbyists who are paid by insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies to tell politicians that it would be bad. It would be hard to just dissolve several mega-corporations like insurance companies but they have shareholders to answer to. Basically, it is all about the rich getting richer. Even though it would be better for the country, people hate taxes and don't think they benefit from them. The spending is out of control here and in my opinion, in all the wrong places. 20% of it just to military. Why are we the world police?

So you didn't really miss much. 😊 Oh, you were supposed to work in the USA for 3 years? How interesting! But you actually left earlier? May I ask why? Still over 20°C? Wow. Here, it's between 6-9°C during the day, and about 2°C during night now. I heard someone say the first snow is predicted to fall this Saturday. Sounds like luxury to have those tomatoes to pick! 😍 And it all happened by accident? That's a wonderful accident, haha! I've been harvesting some potatoes recently! @@DanielErik It was an exchange between my Ministry of Education and the one in Louisiana. First, the salary of a teacher was lower than a taxi driver. The majority of them had a second job to be able to live decently. Half of the "teachers" were "teacher-aide" which are paid less than a certified teacher. However, it does not mean that they were less competent at least with the one I knew. Fortunately, I was paid according to my Minister of Education of my province in Canada. The principal of the school where I was teaching was questionable as for her competence. One thinks I am certain she would never hold this position in Canada. What was mostly disturbing is the quantity of day we lost to raise money (fair) for the school since they lack funds to manage the school (paper to photocopy as an example) do so with their school board! I will not go into detail but their education system is completely different than those we have. The Department of Education in Canada hold the authority in Education in every field as, it is not so in Louisiana. In the USA the principal of a school, at least in Louisiana are god almighty in their schools. Some exchange teachers were told by their principal “Don’t bother me and I will not bother you”! Finally, the real reason was that I felt like being in a prison. I had a lot of sympathy for the students but I could not teach under these conditions. I taught most of my life which I love and never experience such an encounter. We could not talk openly with the principal because he knew it all! During my career, I taught federal and provincial personnel, militaries on bases and at there University College, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and many others in different walk of life! Forgive me, I already talk too much and I could add more about their health system since I had an emergency surgery while in Louisiana. In one word or two, Health care in the USA is a source of wealth for the Doctors and companies, that is it. You can loose your home from medical bills. It is an atrocity in one of the riches country.

I’m a dual citizen of 🇨🇦 and the 🇺🇸. The USA scares me, esp after Trump was elected. Seeing the attacks on democracy, expensive healthcare, rollbacks on Roe vs. Wade, the restrictions on what teachers can teach, the gun violence, recent targets against the LGBTQ+ communities, etc., it’s just not ideal for me. I don’t want to bring up my child other there, I just don’t. I worked for Liberty Mutual in Ontario back in 2012. They closed all Canadian operations but as I was dual, I had the option to relocate to the States. I quickly dismissed it, it just doesn’t compare to what I have in Canada. Yes, my taxes are higher but 100% worth it. I wish we had free education though, I’d gladly pay higher taxes for it. We briefly went in that direction until a Conservative premier was elected, who scrapped those initiatives 😞

From the outrageous internationally embarrassing gun violence they seem unable to control to the ridiculous fact that medical expenses make people bankrupt. We have free universal health care here in Australia too. In fact if you came here for a holiday or I went to Sweden our countries have a reciprocal free health care agreement in place where you’d get free health care here in Australia and I would get free health care in Sweden. Even if I think the us are a huge gorgeous country, it is also a very hard country to live, you need so much money to have a pleasant life ! And life could be short...Also, to be too far from the family is hard too. A big hello from Paris ❤

Nice video Daniel. Since I've watched your videos from the beginning I knew the answers to a lot of the questions already lol but it was still fun to see if I had them right! I really enjoyed your ghost story and how you think it was your grandpa. I totally agree with you. I too believe that our family is with us in one form or another all the time. When there was a special bond with someone then you will experience this type of thing more I think. I hope I said that in a way that makes sense. Can't wait to see the next one.

Hi Thomas! To begin with, I just want to mention how glad I am that you've been watching since the beginning! I don't know what to say to be able to describe how thankful I am that' you've been here for so long! But a thank you sure is a good start! ❤️🙏🏻 I believe just what you're saying - the stronger the bond, the more of these thing you'll experience. It definitely made sense, the way you said it. May I ask if you've hade any encounters with ghost/spirits?
@thomasreilly4156
@thomasreilly4156 8 ай бұрын
I haven't had any ghost encounters but I have had what feels like a strong spirit feeling. It's been so long that I can't really remember the details but I do remember the strong feeling. I do have DeJa'Vu feelings all the time. Some are so strong that it stops me in my tracks. I wonder if I'm losing my mind sometimes because they are so strong and vivid. They can be such a strong feeling at times.@@DanielErik

Hi Daniel 😉 We agree with you about the US, we would never want to live there either. It's very money oriented and it feels like everyone there is stressed about everything, anxiety levels are very high and there are too many chemicals in the food... Also it doesn't help that they teach them that the US is the best country in the world (which it's definitely not) 😀 We of course much more prefer simpler and slower life, forests where you can go anytime and don't have to worry about who owns the land (same as in Sweden) and we value our paid vacations days. Simply more relaxed. So cool that you've been enjoying our videos, yay ❤😁 We like yours because you are quite similar to us (a nature lover who prefers solitude), very real and "European" (North American videos can often feel quite fake, too perfect) 😉 And your videos are always so beautiful - far more superior in quality than ours, with the drone footage and everything 💚 P.S. I am also an Aquarius 😁 ~Peter

Hej Daniel Erik! Thank you for this video! I am a 65 year old Woman, that lives in Sweden (I come from Switzerland an I lived in Germany for 30 years). My husband an I live in the wood now. We found the place here in this beloved country, a place, we love back and of which we want to take care of. We live in Örebro Län. I would like to say something about buying forest in Sweden: We have some money and so we wanted to buy some forest around us to save the trees from being cut down. But the owner - the biggest Swedisch forest-company - said, they do not sell a n y forest to anyone. This is sad! They do want to use the forest in their way and they want to keep the land. And now some words bout the ghost: I am sure, it was your grandfather. He has humor! And his message is so clear! Maybee he wants to say even more than only that you should repair the tab! :) Have a nice time! MvH Ruth

Hi Ruth! My heart got so full of love, reading your comment and how you two wanted to buy forest to save it! That's exactly what I want to do! I see that they are some for sale up here from time to time, but they're way too expensive for me. Hopefully one day, though! 😍 And I would make a real nature reserve out of it! I hope you can fulfill that dream one day as well! Much love to you, Ruth! ❤️

Your first answer was so thought provoking for me. Part of my ancestry is Swedish. I live in northern MN and the land is very similar to where you are. I knew all the facts you shared comparing Sweden and the USA...but most people here feel that USA is best...yet, when you spoke, it hit me in a different way than ever before. I also feel that the things you have in Sweden that we do not are basic human rights. Its interesting how as humans, we get so used to how we grow up, that the reality of our situation doesnt really register. I'm sure the US is better than many places, still, hearing you today made me realize how difficult it actually is sometimes here. Trying to go to school to learn skills for employment or business is extremely expensive. Health care is absurd. And most mothers/fathers have to be back at work in 6 weeks or less after having a child in order to keep a job. But if you only have a part time job, you dont even get that.

I'm an American and I would be willing to pay higher taxes in order to receive paid vacation, paid paternity leave (although I'm 69 so doesn't apply), free health care, free education, etc. That would be wonderful. It amazes me how you can take ice cold baths in a frozen lake. Brrr! Yet I can vicariously appreciate the benefits. Jonna Jinton is definitely an inspirational, brilliantly creative and talented, and a beautiful sweet soul. You are too Erik! Me either. For reasons- politics, health care, gun culture. We have many beautiful places like Sweden... snow, hot summers, mosquitos, rain(more on the coasts), Rocky Mountains, lots of lakes, human rights, quality education, moose and bears are our favourite (ha), nearly 24 hour daylight/darkness,, Northern Lights. Our society is multi-cultural, and we focus on community, rather than "every man for himself." Of course, we aren't perfect and have our troubles, too. The price of Everything is Very high right now. Hej Daniel! I have just "discovered" you, through a friend, and I'm glad I did. I appreciate your thoughtful answers to the questions you were asked, and your consideration of other people's opinions in your responses. I must say, a bit unhappily for me, that I agree with you about living in the US, where I've lived for my entire life. I now live in Denver, Colorado, with my partner of 40 years (almost 41), and we have a good life here, largely because we have adequate money--thanks mostly to him. But every day I see people who do not have the money to eat and afford medication as well, and of course, those who are unhoused...among other things. Basically, it's all the things you've said in your video. Denver is a big city, but it is livable because of the climate (even when the weather is foul, the climate is still good), and the beauty that surrounds us here, with the Rocky Mountains and even the grasslands of the plains so close by. It also helps that the politics here in Denver is one of toleration, and trying to come together to do good in the city, the state and the wider world. I'm sadly aware that currently, the whole idea of the common good is considered by many to be "unamerican" at best...sigh.... I also appreciate your love of nature and finding your place *in* nature. We are lucky to live very near our city Botanic Gardens, where we spend a LOT of time, walking and photographing what's growing. It's one of our major sources of inspiration and appreciation of beauty--both great, like the high Rocky mountains, and small, like a flower that has gone to seed. I'll finish before I write a minor thesis here, but I look forward to viewing your other videos and getting to know you a bit better. Lyckönskningar för ditt liv--vi ses senare.

And Denver itself felt like one of the more livable places in the US. ☺️ Yes, that's exactly what I see when I travel in the US as well, and it truly breaks my heart. I'm a person who wants to help, but it becomes impossible to help everyone when there's so many. I look forward to keep sharing videos with you, and I hope you'll enjoy my already published videos as well, if you're gonna watch them! I was pleasantly surprised when you talked about the way gay people are treated in Sweden. Allowed to marry, and adopt kids, we have that here in the US although it's still hotly contested by some, but when you said the government gave your friends the funds for insemination, WOW! that's huge! I'm not sure that would ever happen here in the US. Too many religious fanatics.
