The ULTIMATE New LAWN Guide, So in todays video we set off on our journey for our ultimate lawn and first of all we remove the old lawn by using a turf cutter, then we bring in fresh rootzone and move that around starting to get our lawn seed bed in order then we add the field compost to give it some nice body and nutrient retention, then we mix that all in, This video is a 4 part series and maybe more on the quest to produce the ultimate lawn.

Superb that you've passed the 20k subscribers.. brilliant. Next time the grab man drops the sand off, ask him to spread it as far as he can with the grab bucket, save you (or AN Other) having to barrow it to where he could easily reach. Re the leveling of the lawn base, I saw a tip about using a ladder lay on the ground with a rope attached and pulling it around back and forth. Not having a landscape rake, I bought a 450x20x3 mm strip of steel from Wickes and bolted it level to the top edge of my regular rake, knocked the overseeding down to the roots and my top dressing went in a treat. Lawn looks PDG now

People don't appreciate the amount of work and expense goes into achieving that perfect lawn. Can't wait to see the finished project. After watching your chanel and some other very good lawn care maintenance gardeners, all I see now is weed grasses everywhere and what I once thought as some well maintained gardens I now see the flaws!! Having said that after watching your videos my garden has improved immensely and alot of people commenting on it. Congratulations on 20k plus Daniel, more than deserved. Just cut my 5 week old grass (almost exactly followed Steve's job, however used MM50) rootzone from Baileys (thank you for the help there), Field compost, no Compost tea. But it is amazing, I cannot believe I have done it. It looks ridiculously healthy and green. Thank you for the videos and the products, which are working an absolute treat. Just a quick question if you have time, I have quite a lot of very young broad leaf weeds, is it just the painstaking process of removing them (with a fork) or will the grass outgrow them. Thanks again, looking forward to this set of vids.

Really interesting to see you are using so much sand. Your videos related to the use of rootzone have been really educational. I'm planning on digging out my front lawn to 6-8 inches and replacing the soil with 75% 5 mm 70/30 rootzone (drainage) and 25% 3mm fine loam soil (water retention and binding surface structure. Does that sound like a good plan for optimal long term results?
@DanielHibbertLawnExpert
@DanielHibbertLawnExpert 3 ай бұрын
Yeah but could still do with adding some organic matter as 30% in a 70/30 will dry out so quick , the back garden there is 70/30 with drains and few days of heat without water and its struggling
@stevenbelcher5658
@stevenbelcher5658 3 ай бұрын
I was a little worried about that. Thanks a lot. I have the option swap the 70/30 with 50/50 or increase the loam soil amount as that has added compost in it but i'll have to check on what percentage. I think it may be as high as 25%. The last thing I want is to have to dig it up again.@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert

Hello Daniel, just a question. Would seed on top of the root zone grow with compost on top of the seed? I’m sure ive seen you do that before but I could be wrong.
@DanielHibbertLawnExpert
@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Жыл бұрын
I mixed it in as this rootzone has no soil in it so needs something adding, works better but if you buy proper 50/50 or 70/30 rootzone you dont need compost

Now I’m totally confused, why do you use sand, instead of topsoil? I always thought that you had to use topsoil to assure a good turf base.? As you say yourself, sand is inert. I’m not criticising just want to know the reasons behind the choice. Can I suggest you do a video which explains the features / benefits / drawbacks of all of the different types of fertiliser and other products you use. What to watch out for and where and when to use.
