What a wonderful interview. Johnny looked hella nervous, took him some time to not be so Serious-Johnny, haha. Joey used his comedy to make up for his self esteem; he seemed pretty comfortable - just wish that woman would stop trying to tease Joey by parting his hair or touching him; you can tell Joey really didn’t like that. Dee-dee...the intellect. What?? He only came in to say something when he felt like he needed to make a point for the band’s true credibility. None of the other members did that as well as Deedee. Marky was perfect. He’s not an Original Ramone, so he wisely chose to not say much-but he makes faces and pokes fun (the shaking shoe) throughout the whole interview. With Johnny trying to stop hai shakes, marky didn’t stop. That was their relationship-marky wasn’t going to bow to Serious Johnny. They were non-conformists, and never bowed to mediocrity. They didn’t need radio/tv to be successful either. A legendary band of artists. We need more artists like them today. It’s really sad where we’ve gone now. Wonderful footage, a gem of an interview. Thank you for uploading.

KNBC news anchor, Kelly Lange was filling in for Tomorrow Show host, Tom Snyder. Say what you will about the quality of the interviews, the Tomorrow Show was the only network show in America to devote full-hour interviews to Punk Rock and New Wave bands - which they featured fairly often. This was before MTV caught on, and much of America was in the dark on the underground music scene in American and the UK. Beside The Ramones, some of Tom's guests were Elvis Costello, Kiss, The Clash, John Lydon & PiL, The Plasmatics, Paul Weller from The Jam, Iggy Pop, Joan Jett of The Runaways, and U2. Gotta give 'em kudos for that.

Thank--you for posting that . (So that I didn't have to) True historical context is almost completely lost with later generations , it seems . They don't seem to realize how things evolve culturally or politically . This aspect is potentially very dangerous . p.s. Back then , I was always very pleased that anyone , including the media was paying attention to what was going on and at least had the motivation to understand it . I think it gave us the sense that we were onto something and not being marginalized while still being on the margin . Do kids today appreciate what prior generations supported before it was popular so that it would be preserved and that they could have it as a gift ? I don't think that people today realize what groundbreakers really went through to evoke change. Early punks were frowned and spit upon . I haven't seen anything innovative or new for quite some time . I didn't wear a Zoot Suit in the 70's . But , look at these people now who think that they are Punks . Sorry , but they have the fashion , a bit of the sound BUT they aren't Punks because they dont have the attitude .

The Ramones are such decent people! I never really would've guessed without watching interviews of theirs. They are the magnified heart and soul of why anyone does music in the first place. Youcan have all sorts of agendas and aspirations and genres, but in the end its just good fun that gets you into it. I love the dynamic too. Johnny is the clear-thinking spokesman, DeeDee is quiet but insightful and intelligent when he pipes up, joey is the self-deprecating joker and marky is virtually mute!

of course he rolled his eyes. She's another one of those conservative interviewers who were all conservative and hung up on hair and eyes and wardrobe and how "wild" we and the music were. To the viewer, it's funny and that gets ratings, but i tend to feel sorry for the bands. They wanna talk about the music, not have to keep defending or answering questions about your personal style. The Ramones weren't trying to be weird. They were just themselves, and needed to be interviewed by someone who could ask intelligent questions. The Beatles were the first to really deal with this, and they did it with a sense of humor, and they played it up. But after that, it just was annoying. She was clueless, but sweet. It was pretty telling seeing how each guy dealt with it. The audience sounded like a bunch of giddy high school kids. Pretty cute.

The thing I love about watching interviews with the Ramones, is that unlike Springsteen and Bono and Sting, they aren’t measuring out their words to give the impression that everything they say is the most profound thing anyone has ever heard. Springsteen lost me 15 years ago with his condescending pontificating.

I saw The Ramones in one of their last 10 shows in '96. I think it's funny here how Johny stops Marky's twitch. The Ramones were really cool in their story and how every member had their own personality and story. Of all the concerts I've ever seen in my life, theirs was the one I'm the most thankful for. Those guys are all dead and gone now, so I'm really glad I got to see 'em before it was all said and done. The Ramones rule!

When it comes to being "punk" everyone thinks that you have to cause trouble, break shit, spike and color your hair or "spread anarchy" but the ramones seem like they never really did anyone of that. They have a cool, calm, and collective manner. I like to call them "class punks." They go about their way and don't acknowledge anybody and to me, that is more punk than "spreading anarchy."

Johnny and Joey sitting next to each other - bet that hasn't happened too many times. Who could blame Johnny for hating interviews when they're mostly conducted by dumb, condescending broads like this one?! And what's with all the treat-Joey-like-he's-a naughty-14-year-old nephew? Joey shows remarkable self control not to tell her where to go. This interview belies the common misconception that they were a dumb band. Dysfunctional, yes, but smart too, in their own unique way. Which is why we loved 'em then, love 'em now, and for always. Thanks, guys!

As someone said, on their first album, the Ramones found out how much you could take out of rock and roll, and have it still being rock and roll. On their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th albums, they found out how much they could put back in, and still be the Ramones.

I was fortunate to see The Ramones in 1976 at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, TX - it was an all-day event, beginning with a blues band in the beer patio, where we hung out all afternoon until the doors opened. The opening act was a group called Aalon, who had an album called "Cream City" - I still remember this 44 years later because Aalon reminded us of this before each and every song. I also remember that Aalon's keyboard player had skin that looked like some sort of lizard under the green spotlights shining on him. The Ramones finally came on, and the sound system allowed them to sound exactly like the albums. At that time, there were only two albums, and they played everything on both of 'em. Then they took an intermission, came back and played both albums AGAIN! I didn't get home until sometime after 2:30 a.m., but I was thankful for two things - that I got to see these guys*, and that I was off work the next day. *Tommy Ramone was the drummer for this show, and when he tossed out his drumsticks at the end of the concert, I caught one of them!

He was eye rolling about something Joey said too....which should tell you A LOT about his views on Joey, if you didn't already know. Johnny never understood Joey, and always felt he was crazy (see 'End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones'). They had a tumultuous relationship. It prob helped them write songs, but it must have made their lives hellish. They were so good yet could hardly stand each other. Sad.

Miska Arpa - You wouldn't remember that when punk started out, in 1970s UK, the economy really sucked, and the safety pins holding their (deliberately ripped/or cut) clothing was a statement. In the newspapers, editorial cartoons would show safety pins through their skin - or an arm or leg - to show their appreciation.
@yournamehere1886
@yournamehere1886 6 жыл бұрын
No, but their fans put safety pins in their ears and clothes...and spiked and Mohawked their hair pretty early on...1977 was just the starting off point...the punk bands formed a few years before...Like the "RAMONES" who formed in Queens,NYC in 1974...In England, the punk bands and fans, were quintessentially more politically and socially motivated, by what was going on around them...The socio-economic climate was abysmal at this point in the mid-seventies....
