I remember Daniil Medvedev playing the US Open. Being constantly booed, a crowd of thousands against him. He challenged a call and the booing got ridiculous. After every play he won the crowd antagonized him. At some point he called the crowd to do more noise, like if all that booing was turning into cheers inside his heart. He went to win that game and he won me over. I am a big fan and I will cheer for him and hope he finds that boy inside of him again.

You can really tell that he was sad and disappointed, his eyes were fulled with tears. Makes me sad that he doesn't get the appreciation he deserves. He is a great guy and an amazing athlete. Honestly, I get that he is hurting but blaming the fans is just low. Ask Nadal how many times in his career the crowd was against him... he was not always the favorite one. Also, ask Novak since he does not come from a mainstream tennis country. (Novak has won 20 grand slams). I am sorry but Medvedev does not show champion mentality. Medvedev won a match against Felix Auger Aliassime as a fantastic come back in AUSTRALIAN SOIL. Auger has a Canadian nationality! Canada even speaks the same language as Australia. Come one... As an Australian watching this game I was embarrassed. Daniil showed so much passion as himself through the tournament and I love that - I’m a huge Kyrgios fan for this reason. Sometimes it was over the line for Daniil, but he was always honest and thoughtful in acknowledging this talks gracefully about how it doesn’t serve him. That the crowd would cheer his double faults and boo his expressions of self reflects very poorly on us and I hope in short time it’s forgotten and doesn’t take anything away from what should continue to be a great champion of the sport.

I’m a big fan of Medvedev: In my view, he’s a genius on court with heart an limitless talent, but he’s also unbelievably sensitive and authentic. These two traits while admirable in theory, do not necessarily endear him to a certain type of fan that permeates modern sport and tennis in particular. While most athletes have sport specific intelligence, .I believe that Medvedev, at only 25, is orders of magnitude above in general intelligence. This, I believe provides him a field of vision wherein he sees, feels and analyzes, and is affected by too much. But being a lifelong tennis player and fan, he is, at least for the time being, my favorite ATP pro (Ash Barty is my favorite WTA…). ps: While I may pull for a specific player, in a specific match, I cheer all players for the magical shot making they bring to the game. I agree with you in that, if any player on the court makes an amazing shot, the point of being in there in the crowd is to be amazed and let ourselves react in a positive way cheering and whatever. The only time I have ever booed was 2014 Australia Open that I went to the first week of when Tomic played for 5 minutes against Rafa in the first round then walked off. He already knew he had an injury. He turned up for 5 minutes for the paycheck instead of letting a lucky loser play the match.

I’ve never seen an Australian crowd at a slam this bad…usually that’s for French and US, but the Australian crowd this year equaled them this year…at first, I thought it was because they just wanted Barty to win really badly, but it seemed to have carried over to the other disciplines…I understand Medvedev isn’t exactly a known name and face as compared to Nadal who was going for 21 slams , but cmon…

I'm usually a proud Aussie & as a former ballkid at 3 Oz Opens (the last to be held at Kooyong in '87 & the first 2 at the 'new' tennis centre in '88 & '89), I've concurrently seen the massive rise in crowd numbers & the lack of class & etiquette of a huge number of the "fans" who attend the tournament, sadly...I grew up during a time when you never applauded a player's unforced error (unless the point was a phenomenal one by both sides), let alone a double fault & most definitely not a first service fault...but sadly, so much of the crowd now aren't true tennis fans & they're tacky as all Hell...I know that Daniil would never read these comments but I'd love him to know that a great deal of Aussies are truly disgusted with, & embarrassed by the behaviour of so many attendants (certainly not tennis fans) over the past week, in particular. So much for the 'Happy Slam'...

Well said AND THANK YOU FOR BEING HONEST!!! Very much appreciated! I would have done the same if my country behaved despicably. It’s such a shame. I cringed when the jobs kept booing when Jim Courier was doing an on court interview post on of the matches, and you literally couldn’t hear what he was saying even with a microphone! The player asked the crowd if the could perhaps just respect Jim as a former champion but nothing made a difference. So off course if you have to experience this crap your dream goes and you just play cold and for money to make enough to retire and make your family safe.

so much respect for this man, playing against strong adversity and a tough crowd in the hostile, unforgiving environment of the Australian Open. Definitely didn't deserve all the hate from the disgusting crowd throughout the tournament because this man's work ethic and the way he communicates himself on and off-court. Phenomenal player, watched some pretty crazy tennis from him and how he dictates the court and ball placements in all of his matches, just super hungry to see what more he can bring to the table for the rest of his career. This man's future is only going to get brighter and the more hate he gets from shitty crowds, the more hungry he becomes for them points and triumphing over delusional people. Massive props to how well he respected the veteran all time great he played against tonight and how much he has matured into a more humble player, and he wasn't too negatively fussed about how he (medvedev) played tonight. Whilst with that confidence, he honoured the effort and fighting spirit of Nadal and how that was too much for him and how much more he needed to work in order to keep himself amongst these tennis giants still dominating in today's day and age. Really keen to see more from him :)

Home crowd at the Authoritarian Open is a disgrace. They heckled the most talented player on the circuit outside the big 3 who would have been world #1 if he won AO. Imagine booing the world's #1 player?? Just like 70% of Aussies wanting Djokovic to be deported. Whether it's lack of education, understanding of tennis or just outright disrespect for players from former eastern block countries like Lendl & Djokovic, I don't know. But so sad that Danil suggested it's unlikely he'll play tennis after 30 due to the treatment by fans like in Melbourne. It's not a football match. You can root for both players but you do not boo or put players off when they are serving.
