This long bedtime stories for grown ups, exploring in peaceful solitude sleep story by Dan Jones is created with ideas from one of Dan Jones Slumberland Patrons and is a bedtime story for grown ups about you walking through the world about 100 years since the great reset when a solar flare had globally knocked out electronics, exploring a land where nature has overgrown and reclaimed much of the old world. You head into an old, crumbling city, camp in an old shopping mall, looking up at the stars overhead, before continuing your journey the next day to an old museum, looking at the painting and statues under the light of a flickering torch. Travel to a town on the outskirts of this city, meet a group of people, including an elder who is 117 and was alive at the time of the great reset. They describe the world before and after the reset and explain what happened. That night you have a deep, transformative dream. The next day, you continue on and find a tiger cub with an injury to one of its paws, you help the cub and the cub decides to be your companion, joining you as you continue your journey and remains your companion for years to come.

I've started getting into the habit of laying on the sofa and listening to this after an early shift when I've found it particularly exhausting, and it does wonders for my brain 🧠💙 There's been a few times now when, at least in the middle of the day, I've felt more awake after listening to a meditation, than if I had drank caffeine. I know which is healthier... (...does not apply when listening at night, obviously! I played this when it was released here last night and was out like a light...)

I love this story so much Dan!! You are so amazingly creative to pump out stories of this quality on a regular basis. I hope the negative comments don't get you down. I've never heard that term before you said it either. You can't know every theory people have come up with.

I absolutely love the topic of this story! In fact, the first time I heard it, I fought against falling asleep because I wanted to hear the story in it's entirety. Would be interested to know what you used as inspiration for this, and would love more stories along this subject line.

Line most of my stories, it is just what evolved from the suggested ideas and me trying to think how I can use those suggested ideas therapeutically to help with stress, anxiety and worry, and in this case, also helping with eating the right amount of food. This story is the result of that. Ideas suggested included things like 'nature reclaiming a city' which to me felt like the easiest way to have that in the story is either for someone to stumble upon say an ancient city in a forest which has obviously been reclaimed by nature - something I've done in dozens of my stories, or think of something different to do this time and set it in the future with the familiar cities being reclaimed by nature, but then you have to think what would have caused this to happen? What event can I think of that could possibly lead to this world without it being some big negative event like a nuclear war or asteroid etc, so I thought a large solar flare event, how can I fill in the blanks to explain how it wasn't traumatic for most people and tell a positive story of how humanity dealt with this event? I could have an encounter with an elderly person who was young when it happened and tell some story through their eyes as they describe the event and the aftermath etc. There was a lot of thought going into how can I tell a story set in a post apocalyptic world without the listener thinking the story is dark and scary etc, when the setting just happens to be the setting, not the story. I could have the story set anywhere with someone wandering and camping etc, so the setting isn't the story being told and the back story to the setting isn't the story being told, but is just given and alluded to to help the listener feel comfortable that this wasn't generally thought of as a scary or negative event and has been very positive for the future (present day in the story) so that the listener doesn't get five minutes in and decide the story is too dark or scary for them. Apart from bits in the story to help the listener feel comfortable with the setting, most of the beats of the story and things which happen are based on the single words or phrases suggested by the person on Patreon who suggested the ideas the story was based around. I have a video I link to in most of my sleep story videos demonstrating how I do what I do but demonstrating with a real client. I take the ideas and the therapeutic goals and treat it like I'm working with a client and the ideas are things which came out during the therapy session and the therapeutic goals are what the client in the season wants help to achieve. I then, just like any therapist does in therapy sessions, adlib and just turn what came out in the therapy session into the therapy, literally no different to what any therapist would do with their clients, where you chat with the client and during the course of that chat they share the pattern of the problem and the solution, they use dozens of metaphors, you observe a lot of different things and then you weave all of your observations etc together as the session goes on, into therapeutic metaphors often mixed with mental rehearsal, which could be metaphorical in some way or direct and of real potential future situations etc. This is all I do when creating my stories here on KZfaq.

You know what's driving me nuts? I keep sleeping through the main therapeutic part of my story! 😂 Happened this morning when I woke up too early, the last time I had done the same and when I last listened during the day after an early shift. I'm happily visualising along, enjoying my story, - ooooo exploration! nature! abandoned buildings! - then just before or JUST after I start building my stone house ("oh good I reached this part") - BAM! - Sat on a stone by a lake. Hey what happened I was supposed to listen to that bit aaaand now we're being hypnotised guess we're drifting off again then...

Honestly I've fallen asleep so quick into this story the last two nights I couldn't tell you much about the plot, but I do see in the very long description of the story it does mention the great reset. Not that I would have known what that was and that it was such a trigger. Not minimizing anxiety/triggers as I do have my share of both, but I would suggest to those with anxiety and triggers to read the full description of all stories before selecting which ones to listen to. I don't think it should be expected to have every possible trigger in the title, otherwise all your stories would have long confusing titles.
@introvertedfox6826

This! Thank you! I also do not want to minimize anxiety or triggers people may have but Dan has talked about getting so many complaints from people upset by bits in his stories. Unfortunately, with these stories it's hard if not impossible to put a trigger warning because the trigger is not one usually used in these cases like rape, abuse. violence, it's EXACTLY why Dan gives such detailed description. People need to take personal responsibility and read descriptions if certain things easily upset them. If you have a food allergy do you expect that food to be in the name of the food or even prominently featured on the package? No, YOU read the ingredients label

Hello there, I just arrived from your live stream where you mentioned this post apocalyptic tale. I asked for the link and you provided it. I am here now, sort of like a sci fi time jump or "jaunt" as the term went in the Gully Foyle story The Stars my Destination....and used elsewhere BTW..............writers do borrow........ The Reset is good. Instead of Great or some such may I suggest a number ; the 14th Reset........or some such.... could be a whole series, travel back to the other Resets, and alternate reality and multiverse Resets, Great ones, Sub par ones, Wet ones, One with a tale of rockets to mars and robots......... have you ever read Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban? Never mind, I know the answer. K, gotta start the story over. adios.

I don't get why some people are upset by this story, the reset takes place in the past, are they also bothered by hearing about the dinosaurs going extinct? And honestly, the way the world is now a reset would do the planet good.

UPDATE : In attempting to reach the end of the tale, I failed. 'tis a fools errand to chase the end of the story told by a professional, dedicated and yes , determined sleep hypnotherapist.....let's see.....far ago and long away lived a group o' something or others that established their beliefs on "the big dream" of the sleepy, tell tale fella himself, an insomniac of sorts...... the pied piper of sleepy land, magical and otherwise. A man with a dream himself, of an ad free session and the absolute monetization button stuck on - JACKPOT!.........

I love your channel, but I have to say this one threw me off. The Great Reset is NOT a good thing. Its your channel and you have the right to make whatever content you want. But I wish you would of put The Great Reset in the title, so I could have chosen to listen or pass. I'm not gonna sit here and say "oh im going to unsubscribe blah blah". You do put out some amazing content. I just wish your titles were more clear.
@DanJonesHypnosis
@DanJonesHypnosis 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't mention the solar flare in the title because it isn't relevant to the story itself, the story is set 100 years after the solar flare struck, so apart from it explaining why the world is quiet and nature has reclaimed cities, it doesn't have relevance to the actual story. The story is about the character in the story now 100 years later. They talk to someone who was around before the solar flare who shares what life was like 100 years earlier and how everyone came together etc. The whole story was handled as a positive post apocalyptic story, where this global event happened and it brought people together into communities and some people decided to take the opportunity to lead a nomadic lifestyle. There is no mass deaths etc (which is why I chose a solar flare so that it would knock out electronic devices, rather than something harming millions of people), just a shifting of priorities when people stop being tied to their electronic devices etc and instead focusing on relationships etc... I try to make sure all my titles sum up the stories in just a few words and make sure to include detailed descriptions so that people can check what the story is about before listening in case there is something in it they may not like, like a storm or a cave or cats or dogs or diving or flying etc.
@aleighahartsfield
@aleighahartsfield 2 жыл бұрын
@@DanJonesHypnosis The solar flare and The Great Reset is 2 different things. At the beginning of the story you mention The Great Reset several times, and personally for me it made my anxiety start to act up, so I just switched to another video. I am guilty of not listening to the whole thing because of the anxiety of the reset. Like I mentioned Im not going to unsubscribe, you put out amazing content. I just wished it said The Great Reset in title is all.

I called the global situation of the solar flare striking the Earth a great reset because it knocked out all of the electronics and that sounds like a cool term that maybe people 100 years later would be using, especially as it is to do with electronics, it isn't a different thing, it is what the solar flare incident has become known as 100 years later in this story. It is like humanity has reset itself to before becoming so technologically reliant, but with all their knowledge and wisdom gained to do a better job of society.

I understand what you meant. But The Great Reset is a totally different thing. I do not want this to turn into an argument because I respect you and what you do. You have helped me tremendously. So out of respect, please just research the great reset.
@DanJonesHypnosis
@DanJonesHypnosis 2 жыл бұрын
All I can find using the term doesn't seem to be anything to do with my story. There seems to be the world economic forum (I think that was the name) suggesting that now is a good time for everyone to come together for improving society and our various systems to build a new social contract that honours the dignity of every human being. And they seem to be calling this The Great Reset Initiative. There is a The Great Reset website which is promoting and encouraging people to pledge to continue to make some of the changes they have made during the pandemic to have a positive impact on climate change and the environment. I don't know who set the website up, it looks like it could be a number of groups. And there are some psychology articles in the search results asking if the pandemic could be a great reset, where people have been in New routines etc for so long they may have developed lasting behaviour change etc, like working from home, valuing family etc more than long hours of work, many are quitting their jobs etc and moving from cities to the country and many people have turned to online shopping rather than store shopping, etc. But none of these things seem to relate to my story and two of them seem like positive uses of the term, one around us all working together to create a better and fairer future for everyone, one around us taking this as an opportunity to continue to do some of our behaviours which benefit the environment rather than slip back into our old ways, and then the psychology articles are just talking about how our behaviour changes may be stuck in this new way and so even after the pandemic the future may look very different, but none of these seem negative to me, no-one are relevant to my story or related to my story or mentioned in my story and none are about a post apocalyptic incident, so I assume I must be missing something?
