JMC, yes, the next diver up, retrieved the fish and shaft. As far as Sharks, If I took up Spear Fishing, I'd try and go to areas where it's less likely to see them. I'd always dive with a competent buddy and build my confidence up gradually when seeing them. They're def a part of Salt Water Spear Fishing . With a competent Buddy and liberal use of good common sense, you should be fine. Would enjoy hearing about how it goes if you give it a whirl. Best, Dan

Zach, my brother in law does the wood work, we like either teak or mahogany. It's a 4 strip laminated design, 3 across and one on the bottom. I only use Neptonics reverse triggers and Rob Allen spears. The butts and handles are divers choice. The muzzle is a design that Kevin Bruington (Ocean Rhino Spearguns) designed years ago and is just a killer piece. He doesn't make them anymore (I wish he would). The other pieces are home shop made. I'm really considering in collaborating with a well know gun maker to produce a few of these guns. Trying to make it happen. Thanks for your interest. Best, Dan

My husband got certified when he was 18. His first time out, he got narced. Which was also his last time out. He's been free diving ever since.

@@debrabertelli5076 Hi Debra. Not about to go 300 Ft with scuba. Have used scuba some times without being certified and with friends. 75 to 90 Ft would be deep enough for me

@@WillyK51 yep. I hear you. My husband has no problem free diving 250 feet down. no decompressing needed. It's just way too risky tank diving. There's a lot of factors in place.

Gunner, I said something about that one time and he said"you ever watched a Bull Walrus in the water on tv" ? I thought about it and never mentioned it again. He is a great spear fisherman and awesome diver. Best, Dan

Man, I don't know how you keep track of where you are, where your fish are, etc. I get turned around constantly on the bottom, especially in dirty water. You must have a good sense of direction.

Bob, it's funny, I can remember tiny details from dives from 10 years ago, but can't remember what I had for lunch 3 days ago. I dunno, I guess my mind just locks in to the details needed to get me back where I came from. Appreciate your comments, Best, Dan
