The stat about our results against the top teams says it all. We do not win the big games because we do not have a belief in our ability to win, and every time Southgate puts out a team with 3 defensive midfielders we reinforce that fact. Sometimes it is luck. I think what most of Danny Mills saying is true. The problem for England is the players like Southgate. Whoever replaces Southgate may not develop that kind of relationship with the players. Also typical elite level managers don’t necessarily like managing national teams.

Foden and Bellingham deserve the chance to play for an England side capable of winning things, a manager who will utilise their skills and actually try to beat teams. I said it when Gareth came up with his team selection before the tournament. Almost everyone was applauding him. For me it was not about the players but assembling the best team on the match day, making the right decisions at the right time and giving attention to details.
