@@jagjit4001 Southgate made two crucial subsistutions, taking off Trippier and Rice. While Rice is not an offensive midfielder "per sè", he gave balance to that team. And Trippier, even on his worst day, is a pest, the only one in a team devoid of "leaders" or so it seems. To me these two substitutions, and the timing of'em, changed the game and screamed "lack of urgency", and therefore allowed us to come back in the game.

It also says alot about the lack of attraction to international management by top managers at the moment. There isn’t a Del Bosque of our era, Mancini is probably the best manager on the international stage currently and I doubt he’d ditch Italy for us, he’d not be able to go back , Southgate is as good as anyone who would consider taking the job

Dyche didn’t have much at his disposal at Burnley. You can’t expect him the play attacking football with those kind of players. Who knows maybe Dyche would completely change tactics if he’s England manager with access to much better attacking players.

Maddison is this tournament's Grealish, it's hilarious. He's gone on a good run where he's scored a few goals against Wolves, Southampton, Forest & West Ham who are bottom, second bottom, 3rd bottom and 5th bottom and now he's England's missing link. Classic English fans.

No one argues that Southgate is a superb man manager and has created a culture, a foundation that will stand us in good stead for decades. However, there is no denying that Southgate blinks at virtually the same hurdle every time. His main weakness is in-game management. I don't see a tactical agile mind when challenged to best a top team, he is Mr safe.

As a man who was fortunate to have lived through the great years of Alf Ramsey his first comment on being the job was we will win the World Cup, which we did. He was a footballers manager who stood no nonsense. He was criticised for getting rid of wingers who he said didn’t contribute enough, had a system that had no room forJimmy Greaves or Johnny Bryce and best of all took no notice of the media

Nobody should discredit what Gareth has done to the team. It is no mean feat to beat the minnows that you're on paper "supposed" to beat, just ask Spain, Portgual, Germany and Brazil to a certain extent. However, the fact that England lost, unlucky or not, to Croatia, Italy and now France in late stage of international tournaments, only proves two things. First, this England team has to be the most unfortunate football team in history because they played so well every time, but got "unlucky" every single time. Or, more likely is that, Gareth just doesn't have that extra bit of magic like some of these small group of elitr coaches possess. The ability to instill a never say die spirit, the ability to grind out results when it matter the most, the ability to change a game by making the craziest of substitutes. He is that steady Eddie guy who will always deliver a solid 6 or 7 out of 10, but he won't ever wow you with his performances.
