Ryan, You can not beat dawn departures, beautiful sky's with the sunrise. ATC Jackson's keeps you busy, a bit different than flying around the mountains.Thanks for a enjoyable ride. ( don't get lost on that big runway runway & taxiways)

Really interesting flight in many ways, flight planning, scenery and communications. Having the two planes flying down together really helped show how the ATC works for you. The way you edit the video to include ATC calls all the way from start up in Goroka to engine shutdown on the apron in Port Moresby illustrated the hand over procedures and ground control brilliantly. Thank you Ryan.

Have you thought of a light sensor that could brighten/dim automatically....for the top or windscreen facing???? (I bought under $5 a pair of auto day/night sensor nightlights off Amazon, they use 2 AA batteries, but only last a ~month because they are always working, but with modifications, could be functional in the checkbox possibly)....Thanks for the videos....

Good Nz morning Ryan. I have just found your channel and like what I see, so have subscribed. First off, thank you for sharing your experiences. I love flying, but sadly having had a heart event, I'm unable to get a medical now. Btw I'm 76 so someone else does the job for me now. Um I appreciate that you mute the ATC while doing the V.O and vica versa during the editing. Just a quick Q and A,are you part of the MAF company. Missionary Aviation Fellowship.? Are they still operating as MAF.? Last question, do you have anything to do with Susi Air.?? I think their operational location is around the Indonesia sector.? Just curious. Is it normal to taxi with flaps down in the Kodiak? I noticed he kept them down through engine shutdown too.

Since a normal takeoff is with 20 degrees of flaps, I leave them down if I am going right back out. If the plane is done for the day I stow the flaps at 0 degrees.

I'm new to the channel, so you may have answered this in a previous video...but at 0:40 you make mention of a lighted box that you use for a checklist I guess. First off, what is that and is that only standard on the Kodiak models or is that something I can purchase and use in any aircraft?

Nice flight, I like the sunrise flights as well! Ryan, I have a little request: I would like to see, how many trim is required when you approach and land (just to compare with my simulator Kodiak). Could you maybe in one video constantly insert the elevator trim gauge from the mfd? This would be great! 😃

In the simulator (msfs) I learned the hard way about introducing fuel too soon on startup ..One of the more recent updates to the model in flight simulator now gives you a bunch of noise as the engine destroys itself

Do you know how to turn on selection with the mouse? I can't flip any switches or anything with the mouse, it just highlights the item and shows what "button is set" but no button is set

with the kodiak in msfs, i thought my rudder pedals were broken. it was the torque :-). very rewarding plane... if trimmed correctly

@Wouter Winters like if I try to say, turn the landing lights on or off, I hover over them with the mouse but it just highlights the switch and doesn't let me actually toggle the position of the switch. It didn't used to do that, but ever since an update it has.

The Kodiak comes with cannulas for the pax. Above 18000, the pilot has to use a full facemask which is also supplied by Kodiak

How does it work if you have IMC in Goroka, is there an IFR procedure to get out and back in?

As I remember from what Ryan has said previously there is no IFR procedure for Goroka and despite some simmulation software include VOR beacons as I understand it with the exception of Port Moresby, there are no working beacons anymore as they are expensive to maintain and the advent of GPS has overtaken them. IFR rules in PNG I beleive are quite simple in that they state a minimum altitude that has to be flown to give the necessary clearance for the highest ground in a given control area. That makes things difficult for bush pilots and why Ryan often stays beneath the cloud cover as it makes landing easier. As a consequence of this Ryan and Brad devised the "Cloud Breaker", a procedure that allows them to descend through cloud into the Goroka Valley in compliance with PNG's IFR rules courtesy of GPS waypoints. I've flown it in simmulation a number of times and it works perfectly even with solid overcast down to 6000ft.
