Getting ready and preparing to row is key in order to get the proper range of motion and stay healthy while on the machine. Here we give you 4 basic movements to help you warm-up and mobilize before rowing.

Just started your 2000m 101 program and really enjoying it along with all the videos; will be following these stretches in my warm up. I also really like Shoulder Dislocations with a band to warm up the shoulder joint.

How much time should you spend for each stretch/warm up exercise?

What other stretch would you suggest for individual who cannot do deep squat because of knee injury and surgery. Great postings.

What do you think of the Inspire CR2.1 Cross Rower? I developed back pain, but believe it could be my own posture is wrong or that my front core is weak. However, I was wondering if you knew if there was anything specifically wrong with the Inspire machine that would cause back pain. I'm at then end of my two-week trial, so time is of the essence.

Laureen! Thanks for reaching out. We've never seen the CR2 Cross Rower but we just looked it up after you mentioned it. In all honesty, that machine isn't really mimicking the rowing movement at all and it doesn't look incredibly safe to us. If you can still return it we would suggest doing so, in place of that though if you wanted the gold standard of rowing machine and to save yourself $500, check out the Concept2 which is what we have in all our videos and is used by rowers world wide. amzn.to/2nxcAqz Hopefully we didn't get to this comment to late, let us know what you end up doing!

It's not a problem for me that the machine doesn't mimic rowing, because I'm simply looking at it for exercise as an ex-runner who can't run anymore. And I liked the ability to get upper body exercise in both the push and the pull. However, I was able to get my trial extended, so I wanted to know why you consider "it doesn't look incredibly safe"?

Im trying to get into rowing but my ass hurts after 4 or 5 miles, how do i stop that from happening?

Unfortunately after spending 4 to 5 miles sitting and rocking your hips back and forth, it's pretty natural that your hamstrings and glutes will be a bit upset. We suggest either finding an acceptable cushion, or just know that it's like riding a bike in that you'll need to spend time developing "saddle seat". Good luck!

The warm-ups are beneficial whether you are erging or rowing on the water, and will work for both whether I’m filming in a boat house or a gym.

You can lift your heels if you need more length. The point is to keep even contact with the ball of your feet because that's where all your power is going to connect with the erg.
