That is your opinion about Darksiders 3 I did not like it at all I played both Darksiders 1 and 2 and absolutely enjoyed it Darksiders went the route of Dark Souls and blood-borne I am not a fan of those games and so are a lot of people who did like the Darksiders franchise. So now I have to disagree with you Darksiders 3 was a piece of crap to those who love the Darksiders 1 and 2 which why was a huge fan of and so many others who love the series thinks the same way.

@@ritwik1223 well that's your opinion the truth is Is the Darksiders 1 and 2 were not like three. The Darksiders games were never meant to be a Dark Souls game are a blood-borne type game. I have nothing against people who do like blood-borne are Dark Souls cuz their Pacific games that were made for those people who like those types of games. but Darksiders 1 and Darksiders 2 weren't those types of games so there's a lot of people who'd liked those games who are used to playing those types of games and then when we ended up playing Darksiders 3 it was different it wasn't the games that we fell in love with.

I'm positively surprised at how faithful they kept to the art-direction. Seeing the War gameplay feels like watching Darksiders 1 from an isometric view. Even the animations seem to be spot-on.

the series as a whole is quite a fun to look at the history of. mostly considering that i was under the impression that it was most likely dying at 2.

kind of wish they just stayed with one style of game play instead of changing it up each game, first game was basically old god of war games clone, then we had action RPG with death, then dark souls, with action elements with last one

I'm just glad that DS3 managed to make money. It's always sad when games have to sell a totally unrealistic number of copies to break even, and the studio ends up going under.

@@2D_Stranger Nah man, War and Strife is the perfect combination. Stoic Knight and gunslinger rogue. Fucking awesome. Death is the lone wolf of the group. He kinda reminds me of Geralt actually. Death dabbles in the occult, is a super skilled swordfighter, and has basic combat magic that enhances his abilities. Death and Strife are both too sarcastic to fit together.

@@iWillWakeYouUp Geralt actually isn't as much of a lone wolf as the games would make him out to be. He usually has some companion throughout the stories, and even travels with a party for the majority of them

I absolutely loved 1 and 2. My only gripe with 2 was that the first two realms were so huge, I thought they were setting the pace for what I could expect, and that let me down a bit when I got to Lostlight. Still a great experience overall.

Totally loved Darksiders 2 but the puzzles became too much of a focus toward the final chapters. It was such a drastic change in direction that it broke immersion for me.

@@Scuuurbs Have you guys seen Whitelight's critique of DrS2? It's three hours long and goes over every single thing in the game. Highly recommend watching it, it's like playing the game again but condensed into three hours.

@@Scuuurbs Darksiders 1 & 2 were just awesome. I loved the combat in the first game and the puzzles/climbing in the second. Shame the 3rd game was what it was. Fingers crossed that Darksiders 4 will return to the roots and borrows heavily from 1 and 2 :)

If I could have another Strife game and another Four Horseman game to make the story come full circle, I'd gladly pay for it even with their current mechanics. They really better bring back the fucking executions though. That one time we did it to Gluttony felt like a Godsend.

In my opinion sekiro is the worst from software game in recent years. Zero replay value no customization and reduced stat effects on your gameplay meant a game that you play once and throw away. 60 on a from software game is usually worth it but sekiro was just a joke. A rental at best

@@kronosleblu888 "Play once and throw away" literally what I already do with most of my games. I play souls games for the lore and exploration, and _kinda_ for the combat. Games come out too quickly for replay value to even be a deciding factor for me. Since i'm only playing the game once, what's the point of customization? I'd rather go off the developer's vision and adapt to their idea of how I should experience the game.

This game takes place shortly after they first started working for the council so personalities being different could be a time thing. Alternatively this could just actually be what Strife is really like.

ehh... genesis feels more like "intro" of the bunch, with strife being said to just be the... "young" spunky guy, which ripens into being the badass we see in DS3

I could just be crazy, but I remember hearing/reading somewhere that the intention was to inevitably make a 4 player co-op Darksiders game with all four riders. Again I'm probably crazy, but seeing more Darksiders is always great.

I want tot hank you for making content about my favorite franchsie... and I know you made the DS3 stuff becasue you wanted to and you genuinely liked it but I want to thank you for that as well as you are one of the few who actually gave it a chance. I cannot wait for Genesis myself, looks like it will be a blast! The Boss fights seem on a whole other level and the gameplay overall looks really fun. I also do not mind that Strife is a jokester (and I am glad they fixed his voice from DS3... I told them on twitter he was too "fiery preacher' sounding and it seems they agreed)... I think it looks fun and you never know it could add a good deal to the lore just from its story and new characters (maybe more insight into how Hell operates).

Airship Syndicate is an amazing game devs. this people created "Battle Chaser Nightwar" which an amazing classic JRPG style kickstarter game. Although, Darksiders Genesis seems to be more like Bastion or Lara Croft & series. in which I would personally love adding ARPG elements like Victor Vran (ARPG platforming). I do not mind either 'cause I just those kind of games & I trust Airship to deliver great experience.

It is kind-off a spin-off for the series. Also... All the time I imagined Strife to sound more raspy (deep, rusted/metallic voice) more fitting his "Death is not THE sarcastic and dark-humoured one, Strife is even worse" lore. He's was not supposed to be a apocalyptic Deadpool...

Same here, I thought that's what they were going for until I saw this video.. I honestly don't know why there not going for an RPG style of game seen as though they have the setup and feel for it here because personally that would give me more of a reason to keep playing like I do with games like diablo 3 and borderlands etc, This looks like I'll play through it once or twice and that's it..

Darksiders 1 is one of my all time favorite games, so much so i was frustrated when Darksiders 2 just wasn't just more Darksiders 1. Darksiders 3 I haven't gotten yet, the price playing a part the but also a lot to do with reviews of the gameplay just sounded like it wouldn't quite scratch that itch. Darksiders Genesis sounds and even looks like it could be more a kin to Darksiders 1 just from an isometric perspective. Which has atleast for now piqued my interest. I guess time will tell if being isometric will be a problem or not.

You, like most people, don't know what an "engine" is. Stop using the word "engine" when all you mean is just "graphics style" which is mostly independent on what engine you use. Battle Chasers runs on Unity. Darksiders Genesis runs on Unreal. Which is the same engine as Darksiders 3, but also Gears of War series, Ace Combat 7, Hellblade, Tekken 7, Batman Arkham series, Assetto Corsa and many others. Yet, they all look different. Sorry if it looks like a rant (it kinda is), but I care about people actually knowing what they're talking about.

I love the asymmetrical view point. It gives you a chance to really see the environments and scenery in full details. It was one of my main reasons to get to the next level in this one.

Not gonna lie this game looks pretty fun. That little cut scene made me already like Strife. Not every game needs to be Dark Souls level of depth and the price on this one looks tempting too.

I enjoyed Darksiders 3. My favorite is still Darksiders 2 because I just love the platforming and the combat in that one. Not sure I like what they are doing in this one, but I suppose I'll give it a chance.

I played the early build as well & something to remember it's very far from finished. He was saying it's isometric so they actually have the freedom to make it great. It sounds like you're trying to fit a game that hasn't been finished into a game you think you want. This kind of thinking along with greedy publishers has been the slow death of great games.

I dunno... the Darksiders franchise? But yeah, I'm absolutely with you @Skbenga - I want to explore the probably somewhat difficult relationship between Death and Fury next.

I love Darksiders..Darksiders 3 included...I also loved Battlechasers: Nightwar so in turn my son and I definitely can't wait for Darksiders: Genesis..gonna be fun for sure

That sound neither here nor there, wasn't aware that you also could play as War or that there was co-op. But that sounds like Darksiders 1 with an isometric perspective, without the production values. Very sceptical! I just picked up Darsiders III during Steam sale and agree with your verdict, it's a fun action game with good puzzles, will definitely finish it.

I played all 3 Darksiders games and Really Liked ALL of them. The 1st ones I liked more for the world building/lore/atmosphere and also puzzles/combat. The 3rd one I liked for Different reasons: The Challenge. I put it on highest Difficulty& it kinda felt like playing Dark Souls. Also wanted to see Story progress & what Fury is like. For the 4th one I mainly want to see the Story Conclusion. The thing that kept me interested in the series is the World&Atmosphere of Darksiders. The 3rd one was weaker on that but still Decent. I usually prioritize Gameplay above everything else but this time the thing I found most disappointing was the lack of Cutscenes. This kinda looks almost like an in-between games *Side-show* instead of a Proper DarkSiders game. But hopefully there IS a good story progression that answers the questions posed by previous games even if it doesn't Look as cool. Also Strife Better be a Fucking Badass and Not some bullshit comic relief character !! That would really piss me off!

The problem with Darksiders 3 wasn't the fact that it was a budget middle-market game, it was because it had fundamentally poor design choices. It tried doing a mix between traditional hack n slash and slow methodical combat similar to soulslike game, and unfortunately nethier elements worked which completely killed it. On the base PS4 the game didn't have as good art direction as the first two (although not terrible mind you), it ran almost as bad as the unpatched version of The Evil Within, had frequent crashes, had audio glitching in the main menu, sometimes parts of the environment wouldn't load for upwards of 30 seconds, and all of this is just on the technical side of things. The core gameplay was ultimately botched because very precise dodging was required in order to trigger counter attacks which were the only ways of doing reasonable damage to even basic enemy types. This meant that there was no way of luring enemies, nor were there ANY forms of long range combat to try and manage your HP. It clearly didn't see the line between hack n slash and soulslike, because the game insists on throwing many enemies at you simultaneosuly, but because the game's combat mechanics are more soulslike, it makes any fight with more than two enemies an excercise in frustration where you can easily get stun-locked and die from an enemy attacking you off-screen. All of this was made even worse by the utterly bizarre and awful camera which wasn't similar to any previous Darksiders or soulslike game, and always put itself in the worst position possible. Then there's the utterly woeful upgrade system. Gone are all of the awesome enhancements, shards, artfiacts and other cool collectibles of the original game. Here we have an XP based system where you can upgrade a whopping 3 attributes in the most incremental and ungratifying way possible. I got to level 33 and still somehow managed to feel the same as I did at level 1 becuase all I was doing was "increase X by 5%, increase Y by 3%" etc. Even the actual weapon enhancements you do get in Darksiders act exactly the same as the crappy upgrade system, and I was sick of it instantly. Other smaller problems were the sometimes unresponsive controls, the fairly boring story, music and voice acting compared to the previous games, and the way health items don't respawn when you get to a Vulgrim portal. - you literally have to either find them in the world or kill yourself to restock them. I knew full well that it would be a budget game, I wasn;t expecting a AAA GOTY, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bit worse than the previous two games, but I wasn't expecting such fundametally bad design, optimization, and for it to be literally not even comparable to the previous two. Gunfire had better fix their design philosphy for Darksiders 4 or otherwise I'm out - and I thought I'd never say that about one of my favourite franchises ever.

So it sounds like from this video the game, at least from the Demo experience, is trying to find an identity in a series that defined itself from Puzzle-solving, Lore, and quick-action based combat? Darksiders 1 had the most Legend of Zelda feel to me. Enter a dungeon. Get an item from mini-boss. Explore new parts of dungeon. Fight boss with item received in Dungeon. Travel. Lore. New Dungeon, repeat. Darksiders 2 is hard for me to compare to something else, at least off the top of my head. The game offers way more customization for Death. Appearance down to how he can play. Sure, fundamentals are always there with his Scythes. But you could pick your favorite secondary, which was a strong part of your identity as Death. And then the leveling tree with all the abilities the choices between the Fighter or Nercomancer. Darksiders 3, I struggled with at first. I looked and played the game with contempt because I was thinking to myself, "This is just Dark Souls with a Darksiders skin." And it bothered me to hell and back. So I put it down, came back a few weeks later and finished it. I took the time to reflect and I stopped trying to think of it as Dark Souls, as I did before. I began to enjoy the game more for what it offered and go invested in the main thing I care about in the series, which is lore. Fury as a character developed from this hot-headed mess that was bland and just uninteresting to someone that actually surprised me with how she changed. Regardless of what is said for Genesis, I will give it, as I have with all of them, a fair chance. I wouldn't turn down this opportunity to see how Strife is, even if it's comedic. Because that, in the end, adds more life to the Horsemen and makes you realize that it's not always so black and white with those characters.

@@OrphanCrippler1 Again, this is a year old comment on Darksiders Genesis, and you are nitpicking a statement about Darksiders 3.... It's a slow and methodical combat style, just like the Souls series, that rewards playing around "Endurance". Just out-last your enemies. No big one-shots. Waiting for the right moment to sneak in a hit and then wait. DMC is a heavy beat 'em up with a Style meter, which the game has literal functions around it. I can go ahead and say "I've played all these games" but it can be easily just said by you "Obviously you haven't" So if you feel like Darksiders 3 isn't like Dark Souls, cool. Your opinion.

Just wanna add some information. Joe Madureira was involved in Fury's design for Darksiders 3, and the teams at Gunfire and Airship have good relations and communication, so they pitch ideas back and forth for Darksiders 3 and Genesis, I'm sure. This game plays like a Darksiders and that's intended, they even said War animations are just a tiny bit faster to adjust to the isometric view. In most interviews, Joe really wanted to make sure people know this isn't a Diablo rpg, even though that would be dope, who doesn't like loot? And which Darksiders fan doesn't like DARKSIDERS loot? This is a smaller game, sure, but have you played Battle Chasers by Airship Syndicate? That was awesome!! I played that game for like 70/80 hours. I'm sure most Darksiders fans just want MORE Darksiders. All Darksiders games have been somewhat different. Some are worried this is Darksiders 4, but it's a spinoff. People really want to go FORWARD in story, though. That might be the only downside, but really, I'm one of those loyal diehard Darksiders fans and this excites me A LOT! More than Cyberpunk and Last of Us and Death Stranding, even though I wanna play all of those, of course. Darksiders really has an underground loyal fanbase and it's awesome. There are a lot of fans crazy for this franchise.

Personally, I played Darksiders 3 for a bit and absolutely hated it. It just wasn't what I expected or wanted from a Darksiders game, they shouldn't have gone with the souls-like crap. Genesis, though... Genesis looks alright! The camera might be a problem and the price might be a bit high for a small isometric game, but I'm still gonna keep an eye on discounts and bundles!

@Skill Up. I miss your old stuff. I LOVE your Laymen Gaming channel with Sam. I tune in every week to see you guys do your news dump. But I miss the old you. The you that would spend a whole hour talking about why you loved or hated a game. You were the one who get me into warframe, and I so desperately miss when you used to play and talk about the game. I was REALLY hoping that after Tennocon we would soon hear from you just about your opinion on Empyrean, but still there is silence. I hope that there will be a return to form of some kind, and maybe not hear about warframe, but at least about your passion for what currently has your attention.

I think the most amazing thing about Darksiders III was that THQ had the self-restraint and maturity to say the game would only have to sell about 100,000 units for it to be successful enough for them to consider a 4th game, unlike _some_ companies we could name who can release a game that sells several _MILLION_ copies but is lambasted as "a disappointment" or "underperforming" for not selling several million more (usually more copies than there are gamers in the world).

I just saw the presentation trailer for consoles and I was super excited! I love Strife attitude in the trailer, but I was expecting a full Darksiders 4 , not this 😭

So Skillet here, has never heard of the Gauntlet games? Gauntlet Legends was an arcade must play back in the late nineties, when Arcades were on their last leg. I think we can classify these types of games as isometric action games. I believe Steam has a newer re-imagined/re-designed version. It's not great, but my better half and I have had countless hours of fun couch co-op. All on one device. From what I see in this video, it's giving me strong Gauntlet vibes. Love the Darksiders series, will definitely give it a try.

I loved Darksiders for the story and the characters. I wonder if there's a story here too. And well-presented characters. Death was wonderful. A lot if layers to that one. War was more straightforward, but still likeable. I was really looking forward to Strife though. I had a feeling that he would top Death in dourness and dry humour. I wonder what's up with that in this one.

I will get Genesis and play it with my brother cause we're two big Darksiders fans + the new gameplay looks really interesting to me I love this and I hope it gets better I'm not expecting much like the director of the game said; It's not a big budget AAA game but it sure looks fun to play especially with a buddy

"no loot game" and "not Diablo like in any way" honestly was really hoping that's exactly what this would be so I could actually play a Diablo like game that wasn't Diablo just to spite chinavision, perhaps Torchlight 2 will be worth checking out, that said I still really appreciate this review I might still check this game out it looks interesting just really bummed it's not gonna be a loot grind Diablo like game cuz I mean idk how you would do that with Darksiders for a game like this but oh well not a total deal breaker for me might still be worth buying maybe probably gonna wait for reviews in February when it comes to console next year thanks for the video/review skillup

darksiders 4 we all can see as strife darksiders 5 i can see as all for horsemen working together as one or independent cogs that effect each other maybe swapping between them between missions or when you reach a plot point that needs them

I regret never finishing dark siders 2. Picked it up as a free game with xbox gold and really enjoyed it but then life got in the way and I ended up moving on to other games when I came back to gaming. It is still in my things to do list but that list just keeps getting bigger.

Picked it up in 2020- and sadly it wasn’t mouse n keyboard friendly ...had to return it. It was beautiful to look at though I would pick it up if it were mouse friendly, not into navigating with a ws-ad keyboard -should of been arpg...

Playing this in 2021, more or less entirely for the co-op aspect...and I find it strange that nobody talks about how non-co-op this game's co-op is. I mean sure, the bugs are still there, the platforming issues are still there, the camera still doesn't fit certain situations, mostly during the platform issues. But nobody mentions that the game makes you find a purple rock before you can play co-op. Every single time. So every glitch, every bug, every instance of bad design that causes you to restart the game, makes it really hard to get back in because the one who is left in the game then has to go find a purple stone. Am I the only one who thinks this is a huge step back in this day and age?
