Darwin nearly got herself killed! Giant Galapagos Tortoises are beautiful, long lived creatures except for when they get themselves in a bad situation. This majestic reptile got her neck and head stuck between 2 rocks and may have possibly broken a vertebrae. This is a terrible! Kate was amazing as she is not comfortable around animals she was so calm and helpful. Especially to stay with her and keep an eye on her breathing whilst you were gone. Well done Kate. So happy Darwin is still here. and that you Jerry and Kate and the vet went into action on her behalf. Accidents happen but swift intervention saves lives. So glad that Kate spotted her in distress.

Poor sweet baby!! Thinking about how much a pinched nerve in my neck hurts, I cant imagine her pain. Kate is such a beautiful and kind soul the way she stayed with her and made sure she was breathing 🥰 and Jerry coming over to help. You surround yourself with amazing people Kenan!

I did not know I could like Kate even more than I already did but to know how afraid she is of animals but she loves you enough to put that aside and blew into her nose, just completely made me respect her more. So glad Darwin’s moving and able to walk… was just balling thinking she may not make it. So glad it’s not that. It’s amazing how durable they can be and yet how so easily hurt. I hope she’s pulling thru. Y’all are in my thoughts kenan.

First day I brought my German Shepherd puppy home he got his mouth stuck in a watering can of all things. 30 years I've had and rescued dogs and when I finally get a puppy, that happened. Even the vets put it up on their Facebook as one of the most unusual accidents they'd ever had. Things happen to the best of us. Just pleased Darwin looks to be on the mend.

OMG the gratitude and relief on her dear little face when she realised her pellets were so soft that she could satiate her hunger and swallow without too much pain! There were so many points in this video that really choked me up, but that little face, and the way she briefly closed her eyes in relief as she swallowed that food broke me. Mr and Mrs K, your absolute love and compassion for this baby girl has turned me in to a snivelling mess! Thank you, thank you, *THANK YOU* !! I love you!

I've had a box turtle for 34 years (yes, the same one) now, and I can verify that if there's a way, no matter how bizarre or unthinkable, for turtles to awkwardly get themselves into trouble, they will somehow manage to do it. We still love them, tho. Wishing Darwin a speedy recovery. She's got the best team caring for her.

Yes, totally! I often find myself wondering....how did these guys survive as a species soooo long?! A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A TORTIE: Edge of a drop-off? No problem! In fact, I'll show u how unfazed I am by going right back and walking right off it again (if I live....)! Yummy food in front of me as I stroll thru my food garden? Yeah...but why eat that when I can enjoy the ONE piece of debris/sudden sprout of a harmful weed--or heck, this lovely piece of mulch that never interested me until now? Variety is the spice of life! Wall or barrier? Space thru which only my head fits? Mere physics isn't going to dictate MY arbitrary route of intent! I laugh in the face of he who says things travel in the path of least resistance--just ignore my sore nose and stuck head! My shell? I just carry it around for fun! When I am most vulnerable sleeping, I still like to sprawl out like I'm a sun tanning goddess, my legs and neck all extended like I haven't a care in the world...

Not gonna lie, teared up a little when she ate that first food. Freak accidents happen. This reminds me of myself getting my head stuck in a the banister of our stairs as a kid, lol. Wish her a speedy recovery!

As soon as this showed up I rushed to check in. Kate couldn’t have said it better “we’re you just showing off for your dad?” 100% true somehow our shellbabies try to rally when we are there but bless her will be keeping everything crossed that she pulls through and is back to her normal cheeky self in no time 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤗🥰🤗

Having given injections to a 50 lb Sulcata, if they don't want it, you need to be ready for a fight. Thankfully, she didn't put up much resistance. Glad things are looking good. :) The "tortoise taxi" gave me a much needed smile in this one.

Yup I was in tears and said prayers for her as well as for kenan. And no to any negative BS anyone has to say. He is not a Zoo he doesn’t have a huge staff helping him. What he has is a huge heart and he is making a difference for his animals as well as future animals in his care or someone else’s and even zoo’s. So please take your negative comments else where. And just pray for Darwin. We love you kenan and we love Darwin too.

Seeing everybody rally around to help her is super sweet. Bless Kate for going outside her comfort zone and caring for her like she would her own kids. I know she gets flack in the comments sometimes for being a bit wary of some of your animals but she always shows up when she's needed the most whether it is helping baby corn snakes or watching Darwin. You can tell she loves you and your animals a lot even though it's not "her thing" , she's a great partner and I'm glad you have her and the kids.

Jerry is such a wonderful person to come help out with Darwin, Kate was brilliant as well looking out for her . I can’t see anyone criticizing you, how many of those same people would say it’s late I just ate check on her tomorrow, you dropped everything and ran to the vet like the responsible love person you are. Been watching the blog at work sitting on the edge of my seat with tears in my eyes hoping the video was not going to end with bad news. Literally jumped for joy and yell HOORAY when Day 3 showed Darwin eating and showing us she will be ok. Tears of joy started as she took that first bite of food!

Darwin is a special girl. She was the reason I started watching this channel. I lost my sweet little Hermann's tortoise a couple of weeks ago to a crazy freak accident. He got upside down in his enclosure, and usually he was able to flip himself back over, but on this particular day, the ground he fell in was muddy and I think when he was struggling he just got his shell stuck deeper, and it was REALLY hot outside. I found him passed away when I got home from work. I'm absolutely devastated, and trying not to beat myself up. I wish Darwin a speedy recovery and I'm so glad she is on the mend. You do such a great job taking care of them.

Kenan don't listen to any of the haters the few mishaps u have had with your animals u saved them with the help with friends and a good vet but its really because of your love and knowledge and understanding of your animals. Look the few unfortunate events u have had 90% of the keepers out there wouldn't known what to do or even have the proper vet to get help from they would have lost there animals. So Kenan u are doing great my brother and u give your animals the absolute best enclosures and care they possibly can get. I know this really sucks but Darwin will be ok so hang in there and keep doing what u do. Darwin is in the best care she can get righyt now being with u.

I’m so sorry this happened! Nerdy nutritionist here- try to offer her some blueberries, bananas, and spinach- that’ll help with the muscle soreness. Turmeric as well, if she’ll take it. Also, if she lets you rub some fresh aloe (or blend it and spray) her neck with it, the scrapes will heal up more quickly. Good luck!!! Keep us posted! 💖

I lost my smaller Sulcata last night. I don't understand why she just stopped thriving. She was 11 years old and she was getting bigger, then it stopped. So glad your 300lb baby Darwin is doing better. Good thoughts and prayers. They are family!

Omg I never though I’d be crying over one of your videos Kenan... These 3 tortoises are my absolute favourite animals. They are such majestic animals, I am so glad Darwin seems to do better day by day. I cross my fingers and hope that she’ll recover fast and will never have any such sad accidents. My heart was hurting seeing her lying down helpless with no movement. So so glad there’s hope and I am sure she will recover !
