(1 May 2014) The daughter of Jean McConville, the 37 year old mother of 10 who was falsely branded a British spy and killed in 1972 said on Thursday, she had been waiting for this day for 42 years.
Helen McKendry was speaking after the news that Sinn Fein chief, Gerry Adams had been arrested over his alleged role in the Irish Republican Army's (IRA's) abduction, killing and secret burial of her mother.
As detectives interrogated Adams for a second day over the unsolved slaying of McConville, her daughter who led a campaign for the truth said she hopes "that at the end of the day I get the news that I want."
Alongside her husband, the 57 year old launched a protest campaign in 1995 against Adams' denial of IRA involvement in the slaying of McConville.
She said she found it hard to believe he was finally in custody and facing police questions.
"It's been 42 years of waiting and hopefully maybe five years down the line I can say it's over and done with and I know the truth," she said.
Under British anti-terror law, Adams, must be charged or freed by Friday night, unless police seek a judicial extension to his interrogation.
