I’m curious why the author quotes this murder as a ‘war crime’. I didn’t realize ‘the troubles’ were classified as a war. If it was a war then there were countless war crimes which would also warrant investigation. Perhaps it was just a figure of speech. I sincerely hope the surviving family members get justice although in a British court of law I think that’s unlikely.

It depends how you view the troubles. The Irish republicans saw it as fighting a war as the British invaded their land (as the British used to love to do). The Brits committed some appalling atrocities in Ireland for 100s of years.
