And it may sound strange to us from a legalistic society but the best solution in a case like that is just to let a more responsible relative or even friend raise the child, while the parent is still involved from whatever distance they're emotionally and intellectually responsible enough to be... This was the practice in nearly all Native American nations and their social structures are remarkable in that child abuse and things like s abuse of children were all but non-existent... The adults who would do things like that were almost invariably banished from the group and while that's not a prison term it is practically a death sentence since the person would be completely vulnerable to everything around them without a social structure......

But to then assume that someone followed them out to the parking lot with a ledger and a clipboard taking names down is a bridge too far. She assaulted her mother and then opened the door for dramatic effect and got more than she bargained for. It's a miracle Megans actions didn't cause Jennifer to wreck and all three wind up dead.

@@sayhello5377 I'm not sure. I certainly remember events from when I was 3. And being questioned by the police would reinforce that memory because she would have had to recall events a few days after witnessing them.

I experienced a similar event that thank God didn't end in death but was on a freeway. I was probably 5 or 6 and it stuck with me but maybe 3 is too young.

My dad was an alcoholic and I absolutely remember some frightening situations with him in the first house we lived in and we moved from there when I was about to turn 3. The one upside is that at 3 she wouldn't likely have understood how much danger they were all in. An older child might have realised the adults were intoxicated and also that her mum might be injured or dead after jumping out.

She needs to be raised in a non-alcoholic home. I remember all the times my mom drove blackout drunk with me. I hid in the footwells of the back seat, crying, while she tried to drive and light a cigarette while swatting at me with one hand. You know what I learned from that? I learned how to get out of a car that was filling with water when I was 7. We lived near the intercoastal, and I knew I couldn't count on her to save me. By the grace of god, I moved away and she got sober. 7 years later I was allowed to live with her again. She was sober for almost 50 years when she died. Luckily my never-drunk grandparents and uncles looked out for me, but they didn't know she'd take me to her friend's house and leave me with their teen boy to watch me while they went on a bender. Then when they came back totally sh1tfaced, she insisted on driving home. I was lucky on the nights that she just didn't come home from work until 2 or 3 AM. I was on my own for dinner and everything else, but if she didn't come home from work until 2 or 3 AM - at least I wasn't in the car with her. That's why I would think that. Why don't you?

maybe I paid not enough attention, but how the vehicle could be driven if they were both intoxicated but a breathalizer was installed on the car? They asked the child to it? Or maybe the daughter was not so intoxicated? Pretty sure that Jennifer didn't called soon the police because she was worried about her alcohol percentage and waited until it was lower

​@agostinodublino1387 Megan's car had the breathalyzer installed due to her DUI, but they were in Jennifer's car. Megan wanted to drink at the wedding so she didn't want to take her car. That's why Jennifer drove them.

We brought our two year old son to my brother’s wedding, in good part because I was delusional: no one else’s child had ever been as perfect as mine (!), we had never used a babysitter, and I was completely besotted with my mother-love for him. I did ask my brother, though, and he enthusiastically approved his nephew being there. I know now I should have asked my sister-in-law. [In fact, everything turned out fine, he was very well behaved, as I expected he would be. But it could have gone badly.]

There's other ways to cheat it unfortunately. There's test where people have used electronic duster cans, rechargeable dusters, a tire filling pump. There's a couple other ways I saw recently that amazed me that I don't remember exactly how it was done. Or the daughter simply blew in it unfortunately.

I thought the interlock device was on Meighan's car because she had had a recent DUI, which is why she wanted her mother to drive? They took her mother's car, which didn't have an interlock device.

Megan had asked Jennifer to drive her and her child to the wedding because Megan already had a DUI on her record but wanted to drink at the wedding and didn't want to drive drunk and possibly get another DUI and besides, her car had been outfitted with some kind of breathalizer type device that kept her from driving when she was drunk. Jennifer didn't want to do it because she rightly surmised that the child would get tired and they would have to leave early. However, despite her misgivings, Jennifer still drove them all to the wedding. Both Jennifer and Megan obviously have a drinking problem and should have been in rehab not driving drunk everywhere.

@@klz9500 Yes ! You are absolutely correct! I took no life or physical harm anyone thank goodness. I not have just hurt relationships I have destroyed relationships! This really hurts and is the only thing that sometimes makes me want to relapse. As hard as it is to say it is true. I have not only changed to a better person before the drugs and alcohol but got back on top from being on the street with nothing. CEO of my own sole proprietor business that I built into a sea corporation that had board members and offices in multiple states. I also became a competitive runner they got paid from age 45 to 51.. My running injury is what caused my downfall. I can call it a mid life crisis. I’m thankful to be living straight and giving back helping others overcome there struggles.

Meighan should have found alternative transportation and a baby sitter for her daughter. Or Meighan should have just went with her daughter, and not had cocktails. Her mother/the daughter's grandmother is pretty selfish to not care about any of them + other drivers to drive so drunk. The grandmother isn't winning any Grandma of the Year awards ... Hopefully, GIA has other relatives that aren't drunken selfish people.

Good Lord, half the people there were probably as drunk as they were. Are we supposed to babysit full grown adults now and be responsible for their foolish and selfish actions? I think that's asking a lot. Although I suppose they could have called the police to get on their tail and arrest them, but that could have led to a fatal car chase resulting in a worse crash too. With three dead instead of one.

I believe it was Jennifer (the 3 year-old toddler's grandmother) who had her hair pulled out by Meighan (the 3 year-old toddler's mother) as she sat in the front passenger seat before Meighan got out and moved to the back right-hand passenger seat beside her 3 year-old daughter who was sitting to the left of her. Jennifer resumed driving before Meighan deliberately jumped or was accidentally thrown out of an unlocked and open automobile door.

You have it wrong-the daughter ripped out the mother’s hair.

Thank God Gia is far away from the alcoholic grandma. The child deserves a happy & carefree childhood, she’s already been subjected to too much at 3 years old.

Her ex hubsand sued her for wrongful death (Jennifer was remarried to a creep Meighan didn't like). Meighan's father also sued the wedding venue, but that suit was dropped. Not sure if he successfully sued Jennifer, but I don't think that was dropped.

She won’t remember it-but she will miss her mother regardless if the mother was a stellar parent, or not..

I know EXACTLY what you’re saying! No alcohol needed. My parents were visiting from out of state and staying with me and my husband. One afternoon, my mother walked through our front door carrying a bunch of stuff and started talking about nothing important. After a few minutes I asked where Dad was and she said “Oh we got into a fight and he jumped out of the car at a red light and he’s walking home. Anyway, I bought a lemon pie for Sunday.” My mom just wove it into the conversation like it was the most natural thing in the world, which it was to them. Both of them did it often. I’m just lucky they waited to add that detail to their constant arguments when I became an adult and didn’t do it when I was in the car with them as a kid. When I tried to point out how insane their behavior was, they would stick together like glue and then get mad at me. So yes, I absolutely know where you’re coming from!

@@klz9500 I spent a month in jail for allegedly TRESPASSING (I wasn't even on private property when I was arrested), yet she gets 5 days for her actions that cost the life of a child.

Never argue with a driver who is under the influence. Never get in the car with a driver who is under the influence in the first place. Another thing Meighan should not get in the auto with her child too. If I were Meighan I would take my child, call Uber, and get a motel or hotel room. Always prepare for an emergency when traveling.

Jennifer discovered the phone only after arriving at the appartment. According to Jennifer, she had searched the area for a half hour in the dark right after it happened. At this time, Jennifer was not yet aware that Meghan's phone was in the car. It would have made sense for Jennifer to try and call Meghan before leaving the area and continuing to drive home without her.

People have been brewing and drinking alcohol, all over the world, for many thousands of years. Remember that the US once did prohibit the sale of alcohol - and remember what a disaster that was, spurring the growth of powerful organized crime syndicates. Marijuana has been illegal in our country for many decades, and still is federally illegal, and that has created the largest prison system (bar one) in the world (I believe the PRC imprisons more of its population than we do, but the data is not reliable). The private prison industry in our country is even worse than state-run prisons, in large part because it allows the creation of a lobby group that benefits financially from keeping prisons full. Most people can enjoy these intoxicants without overindulging.
