Everyone is just here talking about "their" Superman, and I am just like: "This is a nice comic song"

What I like about this song, is it's not necassarily about Superman. This woman is broken, and she's waiting for someone to come and save her from situation. That's unlikely to just happen but she's hopeful and that help gets her through it. Superman is the perfect fantasy because not only is he literally a hero but his whole thing is how kind and gentle he is. Anyone with half a crush on Superman can relate to Lois in the movies. No matter how horrible life gets, this kind, superhuman person will be there to look after you and save you when you need it most.

Sure you can be your own superman, but having a superman or superwoman to help guide or care for you when there's trouble doesn't hurt. Most people can only say it'll be alright so many times before they start to doubt it, so have someone to help you remember. It's okay to let another person be your superman or superwoman when they're around, and be your own when they're not.

I love the fact that this song is about a woman waiting for her man. Lois waiting for Superman. It's the eternal archetype, the fairytale that is akin to human kind, the yin waiting for yang, the material aspect waiting to be awakened by the spirit. I love that they didn't write a song about the woman going to him or not waiting for him and just moving on, they kept the legend and didn't try to modernize something that doesn't need(and actually shouldn't) be modernized.

This to me a tribute song to my late father. He was a iron worker, dropped everything to rush to new York for 9/11 stayed for years to help rebuild. Always taught me the best lessons in life and his tattoo is the Superman symbol. My interpretation of the song: About a girl who's breaking down, still hoping someone would come and save her, tell her that she's worth it (like all those other girls that have heroes, that she's worth going through all that trouble). She's trying to cling on to the hope that someone would come and save her, because she can't handle it anymore and it's only a few before it becomes too late. But somehow, I think she knows that he won't ever come to save her seeing as the emphasis on the way she smiles. (It can be taken in another way, since it was never said how, but this is how I interpret the smile) So I think she smiles in a way that she just can't do it anymore. Like she's already oh so tired and defeated. Then again, this is just how I interpret this.

I feel like this song really puts into perspective the expectations certain women, heck people in general, have for relationships (and im saying this as a female myself lmao). Many keep hoping and waiting for a prince charming, for someone to sweep them off their feet. Many tear themselves up over not being able to find the one. The lesson here is that you shouldnt wait for your destiny and purpose to come to you (yeah superman can also represent life's purpose imo pf), create your own purpose. Find your man. (or woman im my case). This song isnt shallow and degrading of women as some people might say, its a commentary on, well, people, and i think its quite powerful : )

I always cry when I hear this song because I just sit there and think 'I'm tired of waiting for superman, he's not coming." And it hurts. I'm a writer on Wattpad and I'm writing a story about a girl who has everything, but she is falling apart inside. In one chapter I've yet to post she goes and sings this song in a pub before running out in tears. When she gets home she goes to her bathroom and tries to cut herself when her best friend bursts in and wrestles the blade from her. She starts to cry, "I'm tired of waiting for Superman, I'm tired of dancing with strangers, I'm tired of falling apart! He's not coming! He's not coming...." he just holds her and looks into her eyes and goes, "I'm here. I may not be superman but I'll take you anywhere. And I won't let you get hurt! Especially not by your own doing!" I wrote this girl after myself, and how she found her supermen when I'm still waiting for my supergirl. I just hope I don't walk right by Kara Danvers without giving a second look.
