Every great rock band has its foundation in Beatles-based melody. Let's not fool ourselves into thinking that ABBA didn't take its cue from The Beatles.

Beatles had its foundation in Gregorian Chant. Let's not fool ourselves into thinking the Beatles could exist without first Gregorian Chant having existed.

I saw Dave Fanning at a gig once and asked him if he knew so much about music why couldn't he tune a guitar? He just laughed and continued yapping to his little group of followers.

Yes, their roots were in 50s rock n roll, much of which (in the UK and USA) was the "acceptable white face" of black music. What the Beatles did though, from around 1965 - 1970 (just 5 fkin years!!!) was write the rulebook for popular music for the next half-century. It still boggles my mind to realise that the Beatles were together, making albums for just ...... SEVEN YEARS!!!! Justin Bieber has been at it for 13 years ..... can anyone name 3 Bieber songs? (I'm old so I can't name any). With respect to the "acceptable white face" of black music. I am very proud of the "British Invasion". I think it played a huge part in exposing white America to their own amazing, ignored, black artists. Remember that the Beatles's US contract in 1965 stated that they would not play in venues where there was racial segregation. Racial segregation, in the US, in my lifetime!! Thank you Beatles, for making a stand.
