He is doing open/close knows as push pull. Its an upper-intermediate technique which can be advanced at certain tempos and smoothness.

Weckl's entire playing is based on double-stroke rolls. Someone like Billy uses mostly single-stroke rolls.

Gruber ruined Peart and many others. Listen to Temples of Sirux live before Gruber, then after!!!!

There’s some truth in it. I like Peart and Smith a lot more before they changed their technique approach. Their drumming lost a bit of a primal force which made them so great in the beginning…

@@thomasnussbaum4711 yes, albeit great players always. I also dislike the way Neil set his kit up after Gruber, loving his “ All the worlds a stage” setup best. I want drums that go thump, not ding. I own DW drums, but ho to great lengths to dampen thst ringing pitch crap.

Yeah, for me it will always be the Tama and Ludwig kits. Hated his DW setup and sound…and I think I‘m the only fan who couldn’t stand the hat! 😂
