I unbox and test kitchen gadgets, to review and see if they're any good. Is this tomato and grape slicer good? Does the potato ricer work with carrot and beetroot? Does this Crimpit flats toatie maker work? And how about the adjustable strainer?

Potato ricer is super common here in Sweden, I've had at least one in my house since I was a kid. But we usually don't use the "rice" as is, we used it to make mashed potatoes and to prepare potaoes (and other root vegetables) for other dishes such as Kroppkakor or rotmos. And you don't need to peel the potatoes before using it, the peel stays behind.

The "Kartoffelstampfer / Kartoffelpresse" (potato ricer) is a very common tool in Germany. Based on its name it is only thought to be used with potatoes, so sadly it won't work with your beetroots or carrots.

Chiming in on the potato ricer: add a little hot milk, some nutmeg, a knob of butter. Keep it JUUUUST hydrated, but not soggy. Voila, perfect mashed potatos that even has some consistency and bite to it. It personally LOVE this type of mashed potatos instead of the mushy, almost liquid. This type of mashed potatos is also perfect for building the gravy lake/volcano on your plate. It is far more likely to hold its shape and consistency for longer. You can also use it for a very thick noodle dough to squeeze through straight into the boiling salty water. But don't squeeze too hard, otherwise you will get veeeeery long and thick noodles.

A potato ricer is used for potatoes because you can't put potatoes in a blender or food processor like you can carrots or beets etc because potatoes have too much starch and they turn into glue in a food processor.

For all plastic cutting gadgets, like your Banana cutter, Im sure its targeted for kids and children to avoid using sharp knives. Family activities on kitchen. As for Potato ricer... if any veggies or fruits are soft and juicy enough, you can actually use it for natural food coloring, just like how you use it on beets. Mash the veggies or fruits and get juice that can be used for cooking.
