**Update**
Because if this video Dogra reached out to me to be a field staff member. As long as I have positive results with this collar I agreed with the deal. To receive 5% off any order over $200 on Dogtra.com use code UFY5
This offer is only good on Dogtra.com
**Update***
We picked up our first GPS dog collar, the Dogtra Pathfinder 2. I purchased this unit myself, this is not sponsored by Dogtra so this is my opinion. Overall my first impressions of the collar are very good. The quality seems high, the app is very responsive even on a lower spec Android phone. Very nice features built in and from what I see a big improvement over the first generation.
Hope you enjoy it and this helps you make a better informed decision.

I am a distributor of Dogtra products in Spain. Europe has been impatiently awaiting the arrival of the Pathfinder 2 for almost a year and it is predicted to arrive at last next month (January). I am anxious to add it to my inventory and offer it throughout Spain and Portugal, but I am worried that I will know much less than I should about it, so I have been watching all the videos I can find. This video is the best one I have seen on the subject because it discusses the plusses and minuses in plain language that any English speaker should be able to understand. It's a great introductory course in Pathfinder 2. Thank you for your time and dedication to helping us all, Dave.

Thank you Bruce, I really appreciate that. Overall it's a very good system. We now have more than 400 miles (650 km) recorded on the collar. It's been very reliable for me. There are things about the app I wish were better but new releases may help. Mostly with the small text on the compass screen, there's just a lot of phone screen area unused and could be bigger and easier to read. The function button is great and a missing feature of the old system. I will say the latest firmware software update didn't improve the speed calculations, they are way off. Distance traveled and tracks are very accurate but speed calculations are 3x off. Not very important to me but strange. Battery life is exceptional, have never run out of power and its performance in the thick woods is way better than I was expecting. Open field is of course just as good. Great value overall. Thanks for watching! Great to here from someone in Spain.

Great in depth review. Yes, the E-fence is a great new feature. To any user reading here is the 411 on the NEW E-Fence: USER CAN SET MINIMUM 1 FENCE 1,000 YARDS SIZE MINIMUM. DOG APPROACHES BOUNDARY=1 TIME VIBRATE + ALERT. DOG LEAVES BOUNDARY =1 TIME 5 SECOND STIMULATION + ALERT. DOG RETURNS= ALERT ONLY NO STIM. IF DOG KEEPS GOING OUTSIDE BOUNDARY NO ADDITIONAL STIM WILL BE APPLIED. We posted the full tutorial on our channel as well of how all the fences work.

What is the yellow line on the map? Is that tracking you? How does that work?
@UnderFortyYards
@UnderFortyYards 11 күн бұрын
Yes, the yellow line is me, both dog and handler are tracked on the system. All GPS data is being digested by the app on the phone. The dog data is coming from the GPS collar to the connector, then to the phone app. GPS data for handler is coming from the phone. Phone service is not required, but GPS location on the phone is required to capture the handler's location.

Question - How do you access tone, vibrate, or nick from the handheld unit? It looks like the unit has one button that can do one of these things based on settings in the app. What if you need to QUICKLY go from tone to vibrate to nick? This appears to require going to the app and changing the handheld device button settings. What if you need to react quickly in the field to correct a dog that is running away? Seems complicated. Thanks for any feedback!
@UnderFortyYards
@UnderFortyYards Жыл бұрын
Short answer is you can't. The single button activates the last ecollar function you used. It's a deficiency in that regard. It's certainly a better GPS collar than a training collar but it does have full training collar functions. I typically only use tone while hunting but I have pulled my phone to make nick commands while hunting, certainly not as easy as a dedicated handheld. But for the value at less than 1/2 the cost of the other systems, I'm very happy with it. My dog now has more than 400 miles on the collar.

@@bcprins forgot to mention you can control the collar 100% via the app. Nick, tone, constant and vibrate all have separate buttons on the app screen. You just need to use the phone which isn't as nice as a dedicated control. Then the last function you used is active on the handheld. It's a great collar, battery life is endless it seems. If considering to buy you can use code UFY5 on Dogtra.com for a 5% discount. Thanks.

Yes overall it worked really well this past season. We've got about 500 dog miles on the collar now. I do run a Samsung Galaxy Watch4 with the system now which is more convenient than the phone. I will say it's a love/hate relationship with that watch, maybe the Watch5 is better and I'm sure the apple watch is better. Not really a Dogtra problem, the watch app has been pretty good. There are things I don't like about the phone app but they are few and for the value I don't think you can beat this system. After this video Dogtra reached out to me to offer a discount code of UFY5 on dogtra.com if you want to save a little money. There's also a new mini version of this collar for smaller dogs.

How practical is the collar for hunting in very thick mountains where the dog cannot move easily, it is very risky or its design allows it to be used in any type of terrain and vegetation, be it trees or small and very thick bushes and thorny bearing in mind that the receiving antenna should not be secured around the collar so as not to lose coverage; If the dog has to go through rivers or swim, is there a problem? thank you very much for your reply
@UnderFortyYards
@UnderFortyYards Жыл бұрын
The range of the collar to you will be reduced in thick cover and mountains. The 9 mile (14km) range is line of sight. I haven't given it a full season in the thick woods yet, but the small woods and bushes have not been a problem for me yet. Reception can also depend on how high you place the handheld antenna on yourself, higher is better. It is 100% waterproof. My dog has swam with the collar many times now.

@@UnderFortyYards Thanks for the coupon code. I ended up buying one and so far so good. My dog is deaf and I didn't want to lose her, this is why I got one. I haven't tried it in the Grouse woods yet only in the pheasant fields. I find the popups annoying, so I turned them off. The only one I would like is if she was more than X yards away. (30 in my case) They don't have that feature that I can tell. The pop-up I was always getting is my dog is running, true she is hunting. lol (Spaniel Flushing dog) I find it a little inconvenient looking at my phone all the time I think I'm going to have to get an apple watch to sync to it. That seems more convenient. Or get some kind of phone lanyard. Thanks again.

@@ericschneeberger9589 thanks for using the code, much appreciated! The pop-ups are very annoying, sometimes selecting "do not show again" doesn't work when connecting the collar and handheld to the phone, agreed. Maybe you figured it out but you can select to set things to off. Menu >Settings > Notifications Preset > Select Custom and you can turn off all the status' Running, Treeing, Pointing, Bark, Hog. I run a bell most time and it sets the dog to "barking" because of it. I don't get notified but the status shows this if I look. Yes looking at the phone is a draw back of this system. I'm an Android guy so I've been using the Samsung Watch4 and the watch is really the best way. I don't know about the Apple watch but my relationship with the Samsung is sort of love/hate at this point. The app works fine, the watch seems to do flaky things like move other apps on top of it while in use. I also spent 10 days in the grouse woods with the system and it worked flawlessly as far as accuracy goes, it was very surprising. I didn't expect it to be so accurate and led me right to the dog on point after point on woodcock and grouse (that would hold)

@@UnderFortyYards EMF tester An electromagnetic field test measures the amount of electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic exposure a product emits to its users, including static, extremely low frequency and radio frequency fields. There are different regulatory limits for occupational and general public exposure. Quality varies but even a cheap one can give you an idea if its good or bad. Older cell phones use to be real bad until they started sealing the cases, long story short, there's a reason why they wanted you to use ear pieces instead of putting the phone to your head and not keep them pressed close to the skin when carrying. Appears with this economy these days things are slipping under the wire and regulating and enforcing non toxic levels of electromagnetic field radiation cant keep up. If the collar is leaking as bad as mine it would be like sticking you dog's head in a microwave. If they could only speak:) Technology is amazing but be aware about what you can't see.

@@49Hawkster This has me curious to look closer at this. Although I have not seen anything like you're describing, each dog is different. I'm going to get an emf tester to see for myself.
