In an electrifying speech delivered at the opening of the World Leaders Summit on Climate Change in Glasgow, Sir David Attenborough gave a message of hope on behalf of the world that through action, we will witness the recovery of the natural world. But his warning of what will follow should we fail to act was also clear and stark. Sir David's speech was illustrated with stunning, cinematic pictures shown on giant screens behind him, produced by Silverback Films, the production company that has collaborated with him on many of his most celebrated natural history documentaries.

we should gather pitchforks, people, fire , tar and feathers, and take them all to the edge of town on a Rail, Tarred and Feathered, for this nonsense. They aren't saving the Planet for any anything, but themselves. They need to get rid of most Commoners, to achieve their Goals. You are cheering, for your own Hangman. Astonishing.

@@maartenperdeck798 I've been feeling this way too for a while now. I am often completely ashamed to be human. As a species we had so much amazing potential, but rather than being custodians of this planet, working WITH this planet in a respectful and sustainable way. Instead We are nothing more than a greedy horde of barbarian plundering and pillaging the natural world for greed sake. Meanwhile slaughtering all life including our own that gets in our way of the pursuit of wealth. Which by the way is 100% pointless. Money is just something we made up, it doesn't exist in reality. And you certainly can't take it with you when you die.

A particularly powerful speech. A stirring 7min address by a 95-year-old man to world leaders at COP26. One of the things that impress me is the point that it's easy to forget that ultimately the emergency climate comes down to a single number - the concentration of carbon in our atmosphere, and all of our climate actions are to decrease this number. The other is impressed by his passionate state of mind. What would I have been at that age? How can I get to that state?

The whole thing reminds me more of a struggle not against climate change, but against human stupidity. However, it is worth noting that money is the equivalent of having the ability to change our reality. If the rich do not feel responsible and the whole country is not obliged to make a common effort, the chances are small. Of course, the rich will be less affected than ordinary people so they can afford to be ignorant and to organize conferences just to pretend that they are doing something. I don't know if humanity can convince them to take solid action. By procrastinating, you can also gain better conditions for economic development. Delay also makes it possible to blackmail the rest to get unfair financial support. Individual people just don't want to lose and are constantly trying to gain so it will be hard to convince everyone to make the effort to change the climate because no one wants to pay the cost. And such rather should be equitably shared relative to possibilities which is extremely difficult to provide. Please understand me correctly. It is good that a conference is being organized and I found Sir David Attenborough's presentation very accurate. However, I have the impression that in general this conference is just an empty act and without any real desire to change anything because most people do not understand the problem or do not believe in it, and perform only for applause or pretend that they will do something. I must admit, however, that I haven't watched many of the speeches, but there are similar politicians everywhere, I guess.

People like him not only manipulate the narrative but also the data. There is nothing unusual about the weather changing. There has been no increase in global temperatures for 18 years. Why do you people always start your data sets from 1850 ? well because as you well know that was the end of the little ice age when temperatures were about 2c colder than today . So of course it has warmed and when the air warms the oceans release vast amounts of co2 back into the atmosphere . Lets go back in time , there have been warm periods and cold periods. From about 600AD to about 900 AD was the Roman warm period , then it cooled , then we had the Medieval warm period from about 1100 to 1400 when temperatures were hotter than todays, even the ice was gone from Greenland and was farmed by the Danes . Then there was the little ice age 1450 to 1800 when it was bitterly cold with short cool summers and long cold winters. Crops failed all over the northern hemisphere. The Thames river in London used to freeze over and they had markets etc on the ice. However 1815 was the last time it happened , and the temperatures have gone up since then , not to the same extent of the previous warm periods , in fact we are currently in the coldest warm period for 18,000 years, this warming and cooling is because the earth is still in an ice age , the Pleistocene ice age which has been going for 2.5 million years and its a certainty that in the next 2,000 years we will have another glaciation . Climate change or warming and cooling is not as simple as these kinds of people make out and it is not from burning oil, coal , and gas . Climate change happens as a result of the Sun, the elliptical orbit of the earth around it , the tilt of the earth which changes by 2.6 degrees every 40,000 years , clouds , cosmic rays , and our path through the Milky way , and water vapour is never mentioned by alarmists because it is the main greenhouse gas 97% in fact , co2 is less than 3% and anthropogenic co2 is 0.0012% . So the idea that humans can somehow change or manipulate the climate or temperatures by altering behaviour is just absurd nonsense. Most alarmist scientists blame co2 for climate change and warming, well if you are trying to prove that the 3% of anthropogenic co2 causes warming then you would also have to prove that the 97% of naturally occurring co2 from the earth itself does NOT cause warming.

This video presents a graph showing the correlation between CO2 concentration and temperature over the past 250,000 years. However, there is no scale on the temperature display which would have revealed that the rise and fall in temperature during this period was about 10 deg C (from Antarctic ice core data). During the same period, CO2 concentration varied between about 180 and 270 ppm, i.e. a change of 50%. The latest IPCC AR6 estimate of equilibrium climate sensitivity is 3 deg C per doubling of CO2, so an increase from 180 ppm to 270 ppm would only increase the mean global temperature by 1.5 deg C, not 10 deg C. Also, the results of the Antarctic survey show that CO2 lags temperature change by many hundreds of years, which is not visible on the graph because of the 250,000-year timespan. The implication is that CO2 has driven temperature in the past, and so must be the main driver now. It ignores natural forcings and variability, such as changes in solar radiance, all of which contribute to climate change.

Well, the 10 degree changes are mainly due to the cyclicality of glacier and inter-glacier periods. The point of the graph is that cyclicality of global temperature rise specifically induced by elevation of CO2 levels is vastly enhanced by human activity. No one is saying that temperature rise has ever been induced solely by the extreme elevation of CO2. Climate science does indeed account for solar flares, volcanic activity, axial precession, orbit eccentricity, etc. Green house effect is a feedback loop. In fact the green house gas that is the most responsible for temperature elevation at any given time, including today is not CO2 but water vapour. However, for large scale water vaporisation to happen, the system initially needs a few degrees of temperature elevation that can be induced by lots of other factors, such as solar activity and the increase of other green house gases. All of this happens normally in cycles sometimes disrupted by random events. The point of the speech is that the cycle is now being disrupted and there is no random event happening right now... unless you want to classify human activity as such.

Also maybe for his safety too? Don’t want to argue, but after this speech I know there would be a group of people who will be displeased knowing that he is reminding US that we are the problem of climate change etc and how we can change that. There was a news report a few weeks back stating how a guy ( I think in the US) was talking about the climate and he got shot later. (Oh, and there’s covid)

@@sleepyrose4402 Then this is another argument for this conference to happen ONLINE. Don't get me wrong, I understand what your argument and I might even agree with you, however, this still proves that there is no point in meeting in person. Not to mention, doing it fully online would allow everyone to see it. Now, you have to really look for it. Imagine advertising it then on few platforms. Wouldn't that be better if the message reached more people this way?

Wealth inequality and funding of fossil fuel business is more wrong now more than it always ever was. Redistribute the wealth and stop complaining you greedy souls... any regular moderately successful hardworking person of say a £50-100m net worth still has nothing in comparison to shareholders and asset managers and oligarchs, oil barons, arab wealth etc., enough wealth is enough. Adhere to Limitarianism on wealth in Public Policy. Limit your wealth. There is really honestly no need for anyone to think they deserve incredible sums of money. Redistribute it. Think about it, set an example. Lead. More people must direct their wealth/resources towards creating a more EQUAL WORLD. Stop the Greed.
