More emotional arguments. What's a positive moral vision of biblical sexuality? Do you just keep ignoring the stuff in the old testament?

@@timdecious9386 I guess meaning that in the OT you had patriarchs, heroes of the faith, and even a "man after God's own heart" involved in all manner of sexual practices that are at odds with the Christian sexual ethic, not all of which are condemned or seem to bring consequences.

@@dv9360 Can you give an example of an OT patriarch doing something sexually immoral which is not condemned?

It’s pretty clear throughout the entire Bible that sex outside a marriage between a husband and wife open to procreation is sin. The Old Testament characters are human beings and therefore sin they also lived before Christ and before the ascension of Christ and descending of the Holy Spirit. after Christ the old covenant of law and punishments for serious sin and the burnt offerings of atonement is ended. there is a grace that transforms your heart as you cooperate and sacrifice yourself and join that suffering to the Cross. Paul describes single and celibate as “best” for everyone regardless of their attractions. “Best” doesn’t imply virtuous but rather that the greatest opportunity because it is totally sacrificed to God and in that you get to experience being closer to Him. after the resurrection we aren’t stuck white knuckling it with the law but rather are transformed in grace. This is also consistent with how Jesus reverses the law on divorce, saying it is no longer necessary. heterosexual people are also invited to greater sacrifice by Jesus but in Christianity everything you sacrifice in Love towards Christ is accompanied by more grace and intimacy. Almost all our saints were celibates and lived their lives in closest relationship and were able to do great things for God. In Christianity sex is like all our appetites and drives, they have to be sacrificed to our Lord in one way or another. Even married people have to do this. Birth control is a sin partly because it is disordered with the purpose and it also takes away the sacrifices that happen when you raise children. Marriage and raising kids isn’t a party either and married people have to also sacrifice their desires to care for kids or remain monogamous or care for someone else in hard times etc. Although you call it emotional what he is describing is that by sacrificing indulging his desires he is being given a grace that makes it not feel like repression or white knuckle but is also experiencing Love and Joy. This testimony is very consistent with the Good News and the difference between the old covenant and the new.
