He hit the “Mars” note so well and so strong!! There is a conversation going on over on the KZfaq video for this song in its original official video. It’s a terribly difficult note to hit and warble. He did it well as a younger person and he did a great job here when he was considerably older. He always sang well! I heard him sing with a hoarse voice once but that can happen to anyone. Great voice even though he often said he didn’t have a great voice. He had quite an admirable range.

I checked this now and he takes it down from A# to F# I think (not that he hasn't hit as high or higher notes since), but it does sound great.

I saw a few times when his voice was tired sounding. The Glass Spider tour especially he sounded hoarse. His voice was always strong but I've never heard him sounding better live than in 2002 when he'd packed in the smoking.

For me the best version of this live by a long way. Sounds far from the original but captures all its power. Love this band. Shame they didn't all tour together. The drumming is fucking outstanding!

I first heard CHANGES when it came out in'71 and he's been my favorite muscian ever since. His ability to keep re-inventing his sound is staggering. IMOO the most talented artist is music history. I hope he has another album in the works.

There is another live version sang so beautifully on Anna Apreleva’s KZfaq with a simple piano accompaniment with Mike Garson. He hits the Mars note there too. Very good to see as many versions as we can. Thank you.

I was so excited he was going to be on Carson. I saw it in tv guide. I was 14 then. I did notice though at the time he wore a duplicate outfit of James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause. What a cool touch by Bowie.

In the concert footage for 'Christiane F', filmed by Ulrich Edel at New York's Hurrah nightclub October 1980, Bowie is sporting the same look apropos James Dean.
