Personally He has always been a pretty kind guy, he always has been 2 years older than I but I remember as a kid always going to soccer practices with him and my brother.. I still get Christmas cards from him and his family because they’ve always been a kind family! David grinded his way to this and deserves what he’s achieving! He’s got a good voice too

This could be about somebody who's battling Alcoholism which I am, The darkness is an addiction " I love alcohol but I hate it at the same time" extremely powerful." Very meaniful

I am fairly sure it’s about premarital sex. And generally lustful acts that turn one way from God, he’s regretting it ‘n all. Tho I think it can connect with all of us who’ve tasted and gotten addicted to sin.

@@J3nJ3nl0llip0p it's hinted to be about pre marital sex which is against his Christian beliefs and him and another person are sharing poison from the same vine "The “same vine” is a Biblical allusion to the fall of man from the Garden of Eden, and “poison” as referring to the sin of temptation."

Romans 7:21-25 says, “So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. This is what the song is about

@@J3nJ3nl0llip0p While it is true that it can have a different perspective, David himself has confirmed that this song is inspired from Romans 7 from the bible, which goes over Law and sin. He's a christian himself, and the song is meant to be directly tied to that. Romans 7:19, "For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing."
