Why did you make such a wide collar when you only used 1/4" for the pickup? To keep the moyle hot?
@davepatchen
@davepatchen 2 жыл бұрын
@@dougmoreland3532 Good question. Because after picking up the murrine, I gather over it, then stuff it in a cup, gather again, then create the Bloom. Having a beefy collar to start with is helpful given the whole (large) piece will be made on the same pipe.

Was just at the museum about a week ago. It has been almost 7 years since I was last. It was a blast to see in person and all of the beautiful glass pieces on display.

You know what I like the most of the glassblowing art? It's because it's so unpredictable. As a outsider you never know what is going to happen next.

@Katanya Jason After the sculpture is cooled, the bulk of the patch of glass that's left on the sculpture is carefully cut off using a wet saw with a diamond blade (like a tile saw). Then the resulting jagged bits of glass are sanded down using a wet belt sander until I have profiled the original curves of the sculpture. Then using progressively finer grits, the glass is brought back up to full polish. You can see a bit of this type of work here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b6pklsZom9LIcXU.html

I always think to myself how much I'd love to try and do glass sculpting. Every time I see these I want to try glass sculpting. But sadly I have arthritis in my back and I would never be able to carry one of those pipes. that and I'm bad at sculpting XD I'm better at 2D images such as paintings and drawings than a 3D sculpture

Thanks for watching! There are other ways to work with glass that wouldn't necessarily require you to lift a blowpipe - check out all of the classes offered at The Studio: www.cmog.org/programs/classes
