David Prowse, aka known as Darth Vader, was called up by Stanley Kubrick to work on A Clockwork Orange. The first scene he performed was to carry Alex (Malcolm McDowell) up and down the stairs non-stop. Stanley Kubrick then asked him carry Patrick Magee down the stairs in his wheelchair the next day, so David said to Stanley "Well your name's not exactly 'One-take' Kubrick". George Lucas saw the film and when he came to London 5 years later to shoot Star Wars he asked for David Prowse.
George Lucas in fact offered David Prowse the part of either Chewbacca or Darth Vader. The filming was during 1971 and he was worried about being hot during the hottest summer in Great Britain so David chose against the furry Chewbacca costume. The biggest problem was keeping on the Darth Vader helmet and mask which were far too big for his real body
Fighting Alec Guinness and Mark Hamill was a lot of fun and Alec Guinness and David Prowse were give stunt arrangers to train with. Alec and David also practised the fight scenes between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi themselves.
David Prowse also worked for 14 years as the Green Cross Code Man teaching road safety in schools.
David Prowse played Julian (Frank Alexander's bodyguard) in A Clockwork Orange which also starred Malcolm McDowell, Patrick Magee and Michael Bates.
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope starred Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa. Chewbacca was Peter Mayhew, and James Earl Jones was the voice for Darth Vader.
