Күн бұрын

A couple months ago I bought a new Ford Bronco Badlands with a Sasquatch package and sold my fully overland built, Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road. Needless to say there were a few questions about the switch so in this video, I did my best to tell explain what I got, why I got it, and what my plans are with it in the future.

I also have a 22 Badlands for all the same reasons but namely so I can take my family on the types of adventures I've wanted to share with them but couldn't until now. Regardless of manufacturer, we're all here for the same basic thing. Cheers to the adventure.

Nice man, I got my Badlands Sasquatch at the end of last year and I've been loving it, especially with the small touches Ive been making. Got new wheels, rigid ditch lights (w/ ford points), Pura vida Offroad Traction board brackets (these are so perfectly tucked away), IAG rear cup holder (a must have for 4 door broncos), grab handles, air compressor, and a course motorsports phone mount. I'm also gonna add a sleeping platform soon enough and I'm interested to see which amber fog lights you get cause I want to add those too. Glad I found your channel and Im looking forward to seeing where your bronco takes you! Subscribed.

The Badlands Sasquatch is one of the coolest stock vehicles ever, I'm gonna upgrade the suspension not for a lift and bigger tires but just to fix the biggest weakness of the vehicle which is the payload. Old Man Emu makes a suspension upgrade that increases the payload. I also want to to get the ARB Summit bumper and a winch, a roofrack and maybe a snorkel. It's awesome that the vehicle comes from the factory so capable though.
@OFFTHEGRIND
@OFFTHEGRIND Жыл бұрын
I agree that the payload is weak. I may look into that eventually but for my use I don’t find it limiting. That may change when I get the whole family out to adventure though! Sounds like you’ll have an even more capable setup though.

Well, plenty of Toyota and Ford people in the comments, but haven’t seen the Jeep people yet, so guess I’ll be it. Those Broncos are pretty sweet, and getting one for family I completely understand. That’s actually the reason I trade my 4door Wrangler for a Gladiator, to fit the kids, dogs, and things that always need to come along. Also a bit easier to stuff 37s underneath a Jeep. Happy wheeling!

Ford did everything right with this new Bronco, but given past experience I just can't get past the Ecoboost engines and the 10 speed transmission. Love your videos. Great philosophy to modifications, don’t do them until you’ve lived with it for a while and established the actual need for it. BTW, the more you talk about the reasons for your Bronco (in all your videos), the more I love the Rivian R1S I took delivery on this past October (Tons of factory off-road capabilities, including 34” all-terrain tires, 15” of clearance, can forge 3’ of water with 0 chance of hydro-locking & no diff breathers needed. Auto-leveling using the air suspension, climate controlled cabin for the dogs and for yourself car camping overnight, not to mention the sound system right before dozing off or the camp speaker for a little fireside bourbon. Lots of storage in the fronk and where the gas tank normally goes, list goes on and on)

Overlanding is not just off road. I did keep dog in back with truck cap plus fan blowing for the dod thru the rear window. I'm not sure how do make comfortable to do ovelrnding with family and dogs. I went form Jeep to full size truck, because no space to keep things. The rims from factory is more likely has a higher mass rating, so as you are loading your truck, your wheel might be under load rating.

Subb’d. Just picked up a 23’ Badlands Sasquatch as well! Pretty much mirroring your build ideas. Keeping it stock until stuff wears out. Badlands has good factory skid plates but I recommend adding a transmission & crossmember skids. The crossmembers get hung all the time. I’m adding either the LOD Offroad Trans skid (covers trans + crossmembers) or the RCI Trans skid + crossmember skids. Both of those brands will fit with the factory skids. Rear shock skids are also wise. Probably going with Next Venture shock skids so I don’t have to remove/retorque the rear shock bolts to 350lb/ft. If you notice your suspension sagging some after the roof rack/RTT install check out Eibach’s new coil spring replacement lift kit. Gives 1.5ish lift on a stock Sasquatch 4 door but uses the factory Bilstein shocks. Would be an easy and inexpensive way to re-gain lift height after adding that weight.
@OFFTHEGRIND
@OFFTHEGRIND Жыл бұрын
Awesome man, congrats on getting one! Yeah there are certainly some under body armor that I would like to add, but not in a huge rush. Most of the terrain that I am on on a regular basis won't pose an issue to those components. That said, it is definitely on my list of things to look at in the not to distant future. Thank you for letting me know about the Eibach springs though. That is definitely a worry for me as I start to add weight and that sounds like the perfect solution.

The reason that Ford did well on quality a decade ago was because they had Boeing’s chief executive running their company. He once said that we have to make sure that 100k parts work together well in a plane so why can’t we make 10k parts in a car do the same? Consumer Reports had a piece about him many years back. They had criticized Ford so Mullally actually came out to their site to learn about what they saw wrong with Ford. He brought his engineers and bean counters with him and interrupted them when they decided to argue with CR engineers to tell them to listen and learn. Ford went downhill after that with ecocrap engines with plastic intakes. Ford had good non-turbo engines and they surely could have increasing fuel efficiency if Toyota could do it without turbo engines until now. Toyota executives actually came out to learn from American after the War and ended up applying Kaizen, a theory developed by an American, back to their manufacturing processes while American companies sat on their asses. There was even a joke many decades later where the Japanese turned out and told the Americans that we actually applied what we learned from you back in the fifties.

Toyota has been losing customers in the dedicated off road segment to The Bronco and Wrangler. Even with all the new announcements I still don’t see anything from them that competes straight from the factory. I have a unique 2012 FJ Cruiser that was very accessorized at the dealership with the Xplore package. That was probably the best attempt Toyota ever made since the old days of developing something for what we do. Just found your channel. Great job 👏

Watching your video right now. I have a Badlands w/out sas. I'll comment on your video as I go through it. I don't have Sas Pkg. I have both lockers. (only difference between Sas and non-Sas Badlands is the 1" lift & 35" tires. I have the same shocks and stabilizer bar disconnect). Waiting on my TRMR rack now. Once in, I'll be picking up an iKamper 3.0 mini RTT. I also have the tailgate table and absolutely love it... however, if I hadn't bought it in advance of my Bronco delivery, I would've picked up one with a slide out cutting board. I too have the HD Modular bumper. JUST purchased a 3 light set for the bumper from Baja Designs...it's delayed until March but the Quad light is their new SAE then it comes w/two dual lights, and - I'm with you on the amber, for the exact same reasons. 'thumbs up'. Another great feature of the Badlands are the pre-wired Aux. switches. I added Rigid ditch lights from Ford Performance and wired them to #6. Congratulations on 'lucking into' the purchase! I love mine :)

The Broncos are AMAZING. I absolutely might’ve gone with one over the ‘23 4R TRD-P, but wasn’t confident Ford has satisfied that engine’s hunger for valves (resulting in catastrophic engine failure). Maybe in a few years if the 4R somehow isn’t what I believe it to be. Where are you at, BTW? In the PNW as well, and looking for some stuff that isn’t outright rock crawling (live right next to Walker Valley).

I own a 2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road that is the best vehicle I have ever owned and I'll probably never sell it. Recently though I purchased a mildly modded new 2022 Eruption Green Bronco Wildtrak from my boss, for a price nobody believes, so I won't say it lol. He paid cash, did a few mods then decided he has no time for it. It is already lifted on 37 inch GY Wranglers, has killer aluminum off road bumpers/protection bars with an ARB winch and integrated lights. The only mod I have to do is add rock sliders that double as a step, because I am very short lol. I purchased this because the price offered to me by my boss was unbelievable! He knew I was ready to move on from my 4Runner as my main adventure rig and am interested in the Bronco Raptor. His logic was "take this for a steal, get to know the Bronco brand, then trade up to the Raptor, or just sell it and profit". People stop to check it out CONSTANTLY lol and not to see a Bronco, per se. It is the stunning Eruption Green, combined with how great it looks on 37s with these beautiful offroad bumpers! Edit: Every Sasquatch Bronco includes front and rear diff lockers. Not just the Badlands. My Wiltrak has front and rear lockers and just lacks stability disconnect and a named "rock crawl" mode in the GOAT selector, but I don't seem to need either lol. It crawls everything, like a tank! I can now tackle our super technical trails that usually only modded Wrangler owners can use! 37s and it being a 2 door make it unstoppable

Note that a Badlands without the Sasquatch package can also clear 35" - just remove the crash bars (4 bolts). Sas does add 4.7 gears (instead of 4.46) and the Goodyear MT instead of 33" BFG KO2. I have a non-Sas Badlands (2021, also Carbon Grey but wrapped) and prefer the non-Sas version as it already has the features and I am not a fan of the Goodyear tire chosen for Sas (and I am a big fan of the KO2). Great you found a package like this - just want to let other viewers know a Badlands without the Sas package is also a great option. Also in WA - I'll keep an eye out.... V/r NDRWY

All personal preference I guess. I personally hate the K02's from my experience with them on the Tacoma, and so far am really liking the Goodyears.
