My brother attended this institution it was very beneficial to his mental health. I sadly didn’t get the same thing from it: the school is great but didn’t work well for me. The idea itself is great and thank you so much for helping my brother.

@@user43314 people define it differently some say 160 & up is PG others say 160 to like 180 is Exceptionally gifted and then 180+ is profoundly gifted. Then there’s also differences in iq tests where the numbers may be different 160 on what test might not equal 160 on another.

I wish I had gone to a school like this. In 7th grade, I was tested by a psychiatrist because I wasn't paying attention in class after getting straight A's all throughout grade school. I was found to have a 135 IQ and to be reading and writing at a college level. I was reading books like The Science of Good and Evil by Michael Shermer and Consilience: The Unity of Knowledge at the time. The psychiatrist's recommendation? Ritalin. We didn't have any gifted programs in my rural area. I could have taken classes at my local community college but no one even thought of it. My parents had no idea how to help me either. It led to a miserable high school experience defined by boredom, isolation, and frustration.

@Ask Bird it's still the 99th percentile. this school specifically is for 160+ but gifted/neurodivergent kids in general need an education that suits their needs/abilities.

I've had so many of my peers in school asking me why was I in this class because they knew that I would crush them in the class and would get an A all of the time. I wish I've heard of this school. I think it would have been a great challenge for me, but at the same time my parents would have wanted to be a normal kid, so it was a tough social setting for me.

Thank you for creating these opportunities for young gifted people. I've recently found out about my giftedness but I'm already far into my university career. There are so many things I've been starting to realize about my time at elementary and secondary school. The way you have organized your education system sounds great for gifted people. I'm too late myself to significantly alter my experience at school but I will use this information to be more aware of when I need more challenge or something else in general. I tutor students, so I will also try to create learning environments for all students that are fun and inspiring, especially for the more intelligent, unchallenged among them. I have such a desire to learn more about giftedness. And to learn about why people get bored and how I can help. I've learned tons about myself, learning strategies and how to empathize with many people of many levels. I hope to be able to get many insights that will perhaps add to the gifted community in the future. I've honestly always thought I wanted to keep out of the gifted community for some reason. But I've been having stronger feelings that contradict that past urge. We'll see. Thank you for the efforts!

Iris Well not really tutoring, per say. I already understand the material at my grade level, so learning something above that would keep me academically challenged rather than letting my brain become stagnant. But since you don’t have an online program that’s fine. Even though I strongly believe I would be able to make more of myself with the proper material that would, ‘tickle my intellectual fancy’ and challenge my academic abilities, however, as a student I have found a way to nourish my education and not succumb to the lack of opportunity.

In terms of a Mensa IQ of 172 (with a standard deviation of 24), it is equivalent to a Wechsler IQ of 145 (with a standard deviation of 15). And the Davidson Academy accepts applicants with a Wechsler IQ145 or above.

Nice! Almost as good, as Elon Musk's school. By the way, in the small country, where I was born - Bulgaria, there are many gifted programs and schools since very long time. Bulgaria, with population of 6 million, has more gold medals of the international math and physics olypmiads, than countries like UK, Germany and France. And about a third of the gold medals of countries like USA, China and Russia.

oh, Bulgaria, what a beautiful country! I was there on 2019, in Sofia. I would love to go there again. everyone was so nice (more than in other countries I travelled to) and even if there was a language barrier because in that time I didn't know English everyone tried to communicate with me and I made some friends! I remember the name and face of everyone who I meet. I'd love to go there again.

Why would you. You are your own baseline. It’s in observing the the ways and scope to which the functional differences in how your “unusual ability to think fast and come up with unthinkable solutions” deviate and from those less smart. The fact that comparatively almost none could keep up with or retain the data bursts you communicate with. Or see the clear shorthand and easy to see assumptions you use to come up with novel solutions quickly. If you can’t see what “smart” become observant of how rare that is and what that actually means. Relatively speaking we are all probably not smart enough to orchestrate or orient or direct or survive the increasingly complex world. Maybe your not smart but look how dumb the rest of the world it and what that means. In short get calibrated with new data sets. Ones from outside your perfection of life and living it. Be shocked by life without intelligence as you know it. Tho if you are very young then some experience is all you need to make sense of all that.

Correction: This school is for "profoundly" privileged kids whose parents have a lot of money. Studies show that these children are no more or less likely to succeed relative to their peers who attend public school. If they tell you "your child is profoundly gifted, they should attend this school" what they are really trying to say is "give us all your money, we are a big business..."
@elsasmith8566
@elsasmith8566 4 жыл бұрын
Correction: This school costs the same as public schools in the area, right? Technically it's a public school, and it isn't thousands of dollars like private schools. And even if these children are no more or less likely to succeed, this still gives them a better school experience than the average public school would.
@astronymity
@astronymity 4 жыл бұрын
i don't know what studies you're talking about, but that's false. profound giftedness is a real thing with and these children need the additional intellectual stimulation to be able to succeed. traditional public school is not adequate. and like someone else said, this school is technically a public school. it's free for residents.
