@@NoTrashInHeaven Even those words aren't the oldest. The oldest extant Christian hymn (tune unknown) is ascribed to Titus Flavins Clemens (Clement of Alexandria) possibly less than 100 years after the death of the Apostle John. It is called "Shepherd of Tender Youth" in English and is now over 1,800 years old.

I agree Boski...the songs all used to be about God saving us, His amazing grace, talked about sin, salvation, how we were unworthy of his love and mercy...now it’s all like “you love me no matter what” and I’M WORHTY of your love, the songs are sensual instead of reverent, and there’s nothing about repentance anymore, but the road is still strait and narrow and sinners still go to hell unless they REPENT of their sins and believe in Jesus. So sad to see the transition, the downgrade of society throughout the ages.

03:30 This song brings back memories of the ring ceremony in McCreery Hall at Sterling College, a Christian college in south central Kansas. The dorm residents would gather in a circle. The lights would be turned out. We passed a lit candle with an engagement ring attached around the circle while singing. It goes around the circle several times, then stops at the girl to whom the ring belongs. It was our way of announcing engagements. Beautiful songs, beautiful music. Thank you for sharing your gift with this little old lady.

@@CutieRingoJoy right!? It's Annointed, the story behind it, where the song came out from one man's life was incredible. It had to do with an older time abusive bad slave trader who was brought up that way because of his dad because that's what his dad did, but his mother Actually very well Knew The Lord and followed Him, but she passed away when he was young. He later on though, while reading a Christian book over on the seas, came to be convicted by The Holy Spirit and gave his life over to Jesus that day. He kept slave trading, or well in the business, but now he did not transport them or abuse them, he just kinda handled transactions and things like that I think, but even later on he realized he needed to repent and get away from that bad area Completely and he did, and then I believe he became a Pastor on the mainland to the end of his life. He wrote Amazing Grace after he got Saved and felt Free from the life before then

@@DavidWesley Yes? I would love a list of songs that are about the words and less about the singer/music/listener. I know they exist, but found when I listened to them back in the early 2000s that frequently maaaaybe 1 song of an album might have a firm theological basis, and then only if you could battle through the music and singer's flair to hear the words. Frequently, popular groups might have 1 or 2 of these songs. It's why I gave up on new music. An honest request! Will be looking through your videos now too. @@jacquidickinson2559 A Lorica or "breastplate" is a type of Irish poem, of which this is one example, translated by Mary E. Byrne from the original Irish poem "Bí Thusa 'mo Shúile." It is possibly as old as C. 560 but more likely early 8th century or later. "St. Patrick's Breastplate" or "The Deer's Cry" is a different Lorica (rather than "the" Lorica) and is a translation of an original poem attributed to St. Patrick, "Atomruig indíu", which we sing in our hymnal using the translation "I bind unto myself today". They are both wonderful texts/translations matched with wonderful tunes but are two different poems.

@samuelmathews6120 4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelharris5256 all that matters is that you believe he is there. It's what I did. It's easy to pray for healing and for help. But lots of people rarely rebuke the devil in prayer. I learned something recently. The more precious you are to God, the more important you are to the Devil. People can live what they think is a good life because the devil isn't working against them because they aren't in the fight for getting close to God. If you pray, in your prayers, pray against the devil, I tell the devil he has no power over me because my protector rules over him. The devil always has to abide by a rebuking prayer when you use God against the devil. Man recently I've grown way closer to God. Just got out of a relationship that was bringing me down more than lifting me up. Alot of it was my fault. In my opinion if you aren't right with God and push on a relationship because of attraction or sexual desires, those relationships always fail. Eventually, they get bitter, the fights get more comfortable, as in way worse. The drinking is used to chill you out. To get away from what's serious. I wasn't an alcoholic or anything, but September 8th. I put drinking down to reevaluate my life. For one I was wasting so much money on it. Also the only time I spent time with people was to go out and drink. It's amazing how many friends want to hangout with me now that I am on this no drinking stint. I felt really good after a month. Didn't really have a set goal but wanted to last a month. After a month, 2 months went by, and then 3 months. Now I'm almost to 100 days. I probably won't stop drinking for the rest of my life but it really cleaned up alot of dirty in my life. I also put down smoking. If you find yourself drinking or smoking, try to give it a rest and see if you can last a month, and once you get to a month, try 2 months. I think from the month to 2 month period, I started seeing people and their drunkenness. I actually felt embarrassed because I lived that life going back as far as I could remember. And it makes me feel much better that I've calmed down alot and seeing drinking from outside the bottle. Anyways, after realizing I didn't have many people to spend time with. I got into a church, (Christian, non denominational) and have been coming here for a couple months and 2 weeks ago just started to get rooted in the church and become a member. Slow process but what I hope to get into is helping by being a leader for the youth group. I feel like I can help you get kids with my story of how I got close to God and my obstacles and in turn I hope to learn from them as well. I'm not sure your place in life with God right now, but he always has his arms open wide. The only sin I believe God can't forgive is taking your own life. One thing I've been fighting is sinning and knowing I'm sinning. I'm trying not to sin when I know I can just ask for forgiveness and be forgiven. Something inside me just sees that as wrong. But when I do sin, I always try to ask forgiveness and to make me either more aware of stronger in that field of sinning. One main one that has gone on for a long time is looking at porn. To me it seem less harmless than having sex with so many girls, which I use to. (Btw I'm 28, tall dark and what girls would say, handsome) so it's hard to keep away from what I know as far as drinking and girls. I have the biggest obstacle with that because I'm a captain of a Watersports company on a beach out here in Florida. It would be easy to take advantage of a girl down here on vacay. And I have done that over this last summer. (Ok let me clear up, take advantage as in concentual. My taking advantage of them on vacation and the fact that it's no strings attached sex and drinking). And though it feels good at the time. It slowly kills me on the inside. And there is no amount in which how much it kills my insides, my heart, my soul. It's never-ending. It can never be gotten use to unless you've never felt the power or know of the power of God. This goes with virtual porn, or real life porn. I've been doing better because I've only been filling my time in with reading God's word from the beginning. Alot is very pointless, and it's hard because I hate to read, but every now and then God will speak to you during reading of scripture and you will feel it and those are some pretty amazing feelings. Like I said, I don't know what you are dealing with but God wants you back to get your back. Don't just pray, talk to God. Have a conversation with him. Try to read atleast 5 minutes of the Bible each day after you wake up, and also pray right after and tell me how better your days are. If your heart is in it and you are serious of knowing you need God in your life, he will listen, and he will work in you. Remember, Jesus died on the cross for your sins. Jesus lived a life of no sin, when he was on that cross and asked God why he had forsaken him, it's because Jesus didn't know sin. Yet God still gave up his only son to die on a cross for every sin that man could ever do. Back to the suicide thing, I'm uncertain of where Christianity stands on that and being forgiving by that. I guess I kinda think of it like this, you can't cheat to get into Heaven, but if you could, one would think to ask Jesus into their life, ask to forgive them for what they were about to do, kill themself, and then bam! They're in Heaven now. I guess that's why I don't think that suicide can be forgiven. I'm off to bed and idk if you could use a song to listen to of watch a movie. But a good song to listen to is called Everything by lifehouse. (Black background, white lyrics on youtube thumbnail) good movie, if you have Amazon prime, Interview with God. Goodnight bro.

The lyrics of old hymns are so powerful. We need more songs like that in the future.

Plenty of songs today give the old hymns a run for their money in the deep theology department!

@@DavidWesley Sorry I have to disagree with you. or maybe many churches are not singing those "deep theology" newer songs. Most contemporary songs are designed for solo performance. The church in America is forgetting how to sing harmony. Many men no longer sing in church. God made human voices in a wide range of voices and then we sing only unison. Don't you think God might get bored listening to our Sunday morning monotones?

@@agplainsman music in general has kind of lost Harmony a lot of songs just have a drum beat and a singer and that's it. And that goes for non-Christian stuff nowadays too

Wow this is incredible!! You did such a spectacular job on this 😁 I'm early 20s and it's amazing to see how much nostalgia many of these songs carry for me and also the amount I know well despite them being hundreds of years old... It's so cool how how I can connect with a song right now, in my walk of life, that was written for a time so long ago. Thank you for sharing!
