Unplanned zeroes are the best! Good move to rest and recharge. A mountain trail race I used to do on Mt.Tammany gave us those fresh baked pies at the finish line from a bakery in DWG. So good! Totally understand your opinion on PA. Born and raised there and did all my trail running in South Central PA- so not as bad there, but definitely enjoying the trails out of my backdoor way more here in VA. On to the deli's and views of NJ!

Walking on jagged rocks mile after mile in sweltering heat with no water in sight -- what's not to like?! 😉 You took a well-deserved "I Survived Rocksylvania" zero. Yum! Pad Thai with tofu is one of my favorite dishes. Now on to DAY 100! 👍

With the risk of repeating myself: I can't comprehend why the trail in PA is so rocky. On some spots you can turn your head and you will see a perfectly graded dirt road jus besides the AT. Other spots seem to be a rock collection with left and right perfectly flat ground. Maybe somebody was thinking it could be great for mud or erosion prevention. However it is just a little bit elitist. While hikers coming from Georgia can manage all these rocks, people with less experience risk to injure themselves. I just think it is odd to make the trail artificially harder. Why not installing horse jump obstacles with fixed bars or sand pits like at an army training camp?
